A Bangalorean boy. A dreamer. I dream of everything having wheels and a heart. All the machines you see out there was sometime someone’s dream. And making them my lifestyle gives me a sense of direction and freedom because hey!... they are themselves at the epitome of what is called ’freedom’.

With a Masters’ in Automotive Engineering, anyone would ask what I am doing here. I did of course get my hands dirty, which is an other story for an other day, but I’ve always wanted to do something kick-a** and hence. Period.

KTM is having a ball in the Indian two-wheeler industry with all its products smashing the competition right out of the ballpark. They have been the epitome of thrill and fun being experienced on two wheels, especially for the young riders entering the arena.

The brand launched the RC editions of the Duke series in 2014 and gave it full fairings and a different riding dynamics to their Duke counterparts. It handled much sharper and gave the rider better confidence due to the more sporty riding position than the upright in the Duke.

There is hardly any fault regarding the overall packaging of KTM with their RC and its approach towards performance-oriented segments of motorcycles. But, KTM believes in remaining at the top of the podium. Which is why, KTM has given their RC series an update, which now has better visual cues and better mechanical equipment, thus making it compliant to Euro-4 and BS-IV norms.

You are allowed to think that Ducati has mastered the dark arts and cooked up this mad looking Diavel from a parallel universe with help of another Italian madhouse Haute couture production, Diesel.

Together they have couped up a radical looking post-apocalyptic machine that will tear apart any other cruiser down to its soul.

This motorcycle was announced as part of Milan Men’s Fashion Week 2017 and is going to be showcased at the upcoming Motor Bike Expo Italy from 20 to 22 January 2017.

In the words of Ducati Motor Holding CEO Claudio Domenicali - “The collaboration with Diesel enabled us to explore original stylistic and technical aspects whilst staying within the Ducati brand and fully respecting its values. In this case we worked with Diesel on an already uniquely original bike like the Diavel and the result was surprising to put it mildly. The details characterizing the Diavel Diesel cannot fail to captivate connoisseurs of special bikes but also people from different walks of life, such as fashion. It’s always stimulating for us to move outside the world of motorcycling and widen our brand’s areas of interest”.

Working on a somewhat similar frame as the KTM-Bajaj, TVS took the jump with BMW Motorrad, especially after their stunt with Suzuki did not quite hit the cord. Both TVS and BMW will be sharing and developing platforms together to distribute products locally and the global stage. This joint venture will benefit TVS by bringing in investments and expertise to further broaden their R&D capability to improve on existing projects and bring in new innovations across their product lineup. In fact, TVS has already showcased a concept, touted to be the flagship motorcycle for the company.

According to OTOMOTIFNET.COM, Mr Aditya Putra from Corporate Communication of PT TVS Motor Company, Indonesia, confirmed to them that TVS plans to bring a new sports product, to Indonesia in the first half of 2017. And we believe it is the Akula 310. The Akula 310 will, however, be christened as the Apache RTR 300 in India.

When I first heard that someone was fitting two cylinders on a Royal Enfield, I was gobsmacked and almost went off-balance. Then, things on my face changed, from squinting confusion to pale blank to the awestruck excitement that elated to newfound happiness one sees in a child receiving his Christmas present. I was startled enough to start making saliva bubbles, and I wasn’t even sorry for it.

There are not many things in your life that take you to a place where you can feel euphoria. Motorcycling is one that does it in the most humble of manners. The term ‘Motorcycling’ means a lot to many people. Some need it to commute, for some, it is about passion and adventure, others, it is their chance to get away and find more of themselves. And people like me, make it our bread and butter.

Then there are a few divine beings who build motorcycles as an extension of their self. Every motorcycle out there was someone’s dream once upon a time, and it is because they dreamt, we are blessed to be able to feel the way we do while riding. One such man is from Australia who never stopped dreaming about having, not one, but two Enfield engines powering the legendary marquee, the Royal Enfield. People call this dreamer as Paul Carberry and he believes in having fun, twice.

The Japanese Blue Team was, in fact, the one to give our country its first sports bike. In the 80’s, Yamaha came in with a motorcycle that was going to obliterate the records on any performance charts available at that time. The RD 350. The World’s fastest Indian.

The bike was first assembled in India from 1983 by the Escorts group under the brand name Rajdoot 350 (Hence RD 350), and by the end of 1990, the bike was completely manufactured here in India. This very motorcycle established the Rajdoot/Yamaha as a performance bike manufacturer in India which made the high accelerating, 2 stroke engine that could churn out 30.5 bhp with its 347cc engine. The stock Japanese version, however, made 39-40 bhp with the same power mill.

It was also the first motorcycle to feature a twin barrel exhaust and the famous “Torque Induction” ignition technology of Yamaha that could propel the bike to a cool 150-160 kph and sprint to a 100 kph in under 6 seconds. It became the undisputed king of uncharted territory in India.

Even though Kinetic is long gone from having their products on the road, they are very much active at the business ends of the market. They gave the country’s first electric start scooty which was a two-stroke scooter based on the Honda NH series.

Then, in 1998, the joint venture between Honda and Kinetic was terminated after which Kinetic Engineering continued to sell the models under the brand name ‘Kinetic’ until 2008. Post that, the interests were sold to Mahindra and currently the company holding’s - Motoroyale stores, started dealing with multiband motorcycles with MV Agusta being the first. Soon, MV Agusta got into partnership with Mercedes-AMG, the high-performance supercars division of Mercedes-Benz, taking 25% of stakes in MV Agusta.

But Mercedes-AMG was said to have pulled back after an acrimonious situation, leaving the Italian high and dry. Nonetheless, according to BikeDekho, Kinetic are back in the news again for having rumoured the possibility of it introducing yet another Italian firm to the Indian market through Motoroyale known as SWM Motorcycles.

We have been following the development of the 2017 Yamaha YZF - R15 V3.0 since the first spy shot was seen making the rounds on the internet even since early 2016. Post that, various render artists have imagined the motorcycle and have been updating their work as and when new information spruces up.

When the YZF - R15 rolled in 2008, Yamaha gathered enough success as it managed to capture the market leader boards. It gave us a product that was like a gateway for riders to get into the motorsport arena with this fully faired motorcycle having a powerful 150 cc mill. A lot of young riders opted for this superbike looker having a decent engine with high levels of refinement Yamaha is known for.

It was updated with a facelift in 2011 and the R15 V2.0 received a lot of pomp and fair due to its striking design which now looked even sharper with very acute angles from every corner of the motorcycle. Off late, the R15 lost its lustre because of the insane amount of competition but that is about to change. Some were not very impressed with the YZF R15s either. Maybe they were hoping for the V3.0. Luckily for us, news, spy shots and renderings of the upcoming R15 touted as V3.0 is filling the internet and we couldn’t have been much happier.

The word ‘scooter’ was once a synonym for one cluttery low power thing that had two wheels and a handlebar. A device that to this day is frowned upon in the motorcycle community and blaming it for taking away the ‘biking experience’.

The only thing making it tick and stay is its ease of riding around the urban chaos and for people for whom shifting a gear is a daunting task to undertake. See the pun there? It’s there on purpose.

However, things started to change in 2016. It saw the entry of two 150cc Italian scooters which take the two-wheel game to a whole new level. They were onto mucking about the boring geared entry level motorcycles in full zest, style and a mountain full of panache.

Piaggio introduced the decade’s first 150 cc scooter with the Vespa SXL 150 and set the ball rolling. Then came a machine from the same bloodline, but with racing written all over it, the Aprilia SR 150. Both scooters share the same capacity engine and this is where the similarities end. The rest of is chalk and cheese.
