The Japanese two wheeler giant have manufactured some of the World’s fastest and sweetest handling bikes but the latest offering from their stable is the new YZF-R3 which the manufacturer is calling one light and practical everyday useable motorcycle.
This motorcycle will fit in the gap between the YZF R125 and the bigger and more powerful YZF R6 in the International market while with the Indian motorcycle scenario quickly changing and also becoming one of the important markets of the World for some renowned two wheeler manufacturers there is a fair chance of Yamaha launching this motorcycle in India.
Powered by a 2-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4 valves engine this motorcycle also has been developed and posses the R series DNA within. Yamaha also has fitted a lightweight chassis on the motorcycle for agile and sporty handling. As far as its styling is concerned the R3 too has been inspired from the R-Series styling and gets the duel headlamps at the front and stylish and muscular looking tank and full fairing. Yamaha has recently launched the YZF R25 in the Indonesian market which attracted lot of attention and Yamaha has tried to give the recently launched R25 a sporty yet purposeful styling. Now you must be wondering why I am refereeing the R25 here that is because the R3 too looks similar to the R25 and its styling has been heavily borrowed from the other motorcycle and perhaps this the new styling DNA of the YZF series which consists of number of important motorcycles including the recently added R3.
At the front you will find the twin headlamps which have been provided for better illumination at dark. The R3 gets a semi fairing on the front stressed aerodynamically optimized front fairing helps in cutting through air and pushing the motorcycle forward. Just behind the front fairing the digital instrument cluster which well! Similar to what you will find in the R25. The muscular looking fuel tank, the sporty split seats, the stylish exhaust are all part of this new motorcycle.
This motorcycle is actually based on the R25 and thus it also gets wider handlebars which helps in its easy maneuvering which is again a plus point for the motorcycle.

Powered by a 2-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC, 4 valves 321 cc engine this motorcycle definitely produces mo0re power than the R25. The engine mated to a sequential 6 speed gearbox produces about 42 Ps of peak power at 10, 750 rpm and 26.9 Nm of torque at 9000 rpm. This motorcycle also has electronic fuel injected engine which will send the exact amount of oil to the engine making sure that the motorcycle receives the right amount of power and without any wastage of oil.
This motorcycle uses the same Bridge Tubular frame chassis which is also used by the smaller R25 and it has been fitted with telescopic front suspension with 130 mm travel which ensures that the rider stays comfortable in every leg of their journey while the motorcycle also uses wing type rear suspension. Now this is one fast motorcycle which also needs some serious braking power to make it stop and thus Yamaha has fitted a 298 mm disc brake at the front while the rear has been fitted with a 220 mm disc.

Yamaha YZF R3 will face some tough competition from the KTM Duke 390 and the Kawasaki Ninja 300 in India.
While we are talking about sportsbike we definitely can’t ignore the KTM RC390 which was launched recently in India at an attractive price although it is a faired version of the Duke 390 which is already available in India but it still with some tweaks has become one of the most fiercest lightweight entry level sportsbikes of India. Powered by a single cylinder 4-stroke engine, water-cooled engine which produces an impressive amount of power and torque.
When Kawasaki launched the Ninja 300 they already mentioned that this bike is sportier, aggressive and powerful easy to ride motorcycle. The iconic Ninja has become really affordable and anyone can get their hands on one. Powered by a four-stroke, parallel-twin and liquid-cooled, 296cc engine, this fuel-injected engine generates maximum power of 38.5bhp at 11000rpm and 28 Nm of torque at 10000 rpm.
The Yamaha YZF-R3 is targeted mainly towards the young riders and also to those who wants to upgrade from their smaller motorcycles to a more powerful and sporty sportsbike.
