After having a successful track record with its YZF range of supersports, Yamaha, in recent past, is trying hard to make a serious impact in the different categories of naked roadsters. While Yamaha has had a number of nakeds under the ‘FZ’ moniker which have been successful in many parts of the world, to escalate its streak of success, Yamaha has been working hard to revamp its entire range of naked roadsters, with a new nameplate of ‘MT’.

The new range of MT roadsters from Yamaha has spawned right from the entry level MT-125 to the top-of-the-line R1-based liter class MT-10. Out of this range of roadsters, Yamaha has already launched the premium middleweight offering, the 850cc MT-09, in the Indian market. Though, before MT-09, Yamaha did launch the smaller middleweight motorcycle, the MT-07, on the global platform, which is an apt model for the developing markets like that of India, due to suitable engine specifications and visual appeal similar to the bigger MT-09. Here’s our comprehensive take on the Yamaha MT-07.

2017 Yamaha MT-10 SP

sleek, dynamic, powerful and much more

Surpassing the fables of its famous FZ range, Yamaha has refurbished its naked streetfighter lineup with the MT range across the globe. Compared to the bulky and muscular looking motorcycles of FZ range, the entire roadster portfolio has been revised by the manufacturer with the new MT portfolio, which features new edgy and futuristic styling, new powertrains and new mechanicals, which have given an importance to Yamaha in the segment of naked streetfighters – a category in which Yamaha hasn’t been able to replicate as much tremendous recognition as it has achieved in the segment of faired supersports.

Starting off from the entry level MT-125 and extending all the way up to MT-10, Yamaha now has a comprehensive lineup of roadsters with the MT nameplate with a prominent presence in each and every segment. Speaking off the flagship, the MT-10, recently at the 2016 EICMA, Yamaha unveiled what can be its most outrageous looking motorcycle in its entire history till date, a performance specific variant of the MT-10, the new MT-10 SP. In simple words, the MT-10 SP is to MT-10 what the YZF R1M is to YZF R1. Here’s a quick outlook on what all revisions and additions does the new MT-10 SP gets over the regular MT-10:-

After YZF R3 MT-03 Too Will Join The Yamaha Lineup This Festive Season

After YZF R3 MT-03 Too Will Join The Yamaha Lineup This Festive Season

The naked sportsbike will be positioned below the R3

According to the reports Yamaha perhaps will launch the MT-03 in India towards this festive season. The MT-03 which is actually a naked variant of the R3 will be launched exactly a year after Yamaha introduced the faired variant of the motorcycle in India.

As far as the styling is concerned the MT-03 looks almost similar to the non faired variant of the R3 and identical to the smaller sibling the MT-25 with few minor changes. The naked variant of the YZF-R3 gets a chiselled and beefy looking fuel tank, while the exposed frame and the sharper creases and edges give the motorcycle an aggressive and imposing stance.

Power comes from the same 321cc, liquid cooled engine which also powers the faired variant as well. This engine is capable of producing about 41hp of peak power at 10,750 rpm and peak torque amount of 30 Nm at 9000 rpm. The engine will be paired to a six speed transmission which sends power to the rear wheels. Unfortunately do not expect it to be equipped with ABS just like the faired variant can be a big concern for many riders and buyers.

As far as the pricing is concerned expect the naked variant of the motorcycle to be priced below the 3 Lakh mark which make it much cheaper than the R3. This will be direct rival to the Kawasaki Duke 390, Benelli TNT 300 and the upcoming BMW G310R.

Yamaha At Auto Expo 2016

Yamaha At Auto Expo 2016

In the last decade, Yamaha has woken up from a slumber, in such a way that it has now gone on to become one of the fastest growing manufacturers in the country. Before the advent of the now established YZF R15, this Japanese giant was busy with its not so serious 106cc and 125cc offerings, indicating that Yamaha was not taking the Indian market with the seriousness which should have been there.

But then, the R15 entered on the block, and changed the face of Yamaha in India. After the R15, the advents of the FZ range, the top-of-the-line CBU offerings like R1, FZ1 and VMax and the launch of its 113cc scooter lineup, Yamaha proved that it is not an underdog in the market and it is here to stay for an even longer run, and that too in the action mode.

There is a strong reason to have high expectations from Yamaha – just have a glance of its international portfolio of motorcycles and scooters, and you will agree with us. In the same spirit of growing ahead like in other market, Yamaha is now showing signs of aggressiveness, and a proof of it was its starry existence in the Auto Expo 2016.

Yamaha showcased a variety of models in the auto show – scooters, mass market motorcycles and superbikes, most of which will soon be added or have been already added in Yamaha’s portfolio for India. Following is the list of all the ten most prominent models of Yamaha which stole the show at the Auto Expo 2016.

2016 Yamaha MT-09

Ever since Yamaha introduced the first legally available superbike in the form of the mighty YZF R1, there have been high expectations from this Japanese manufacturer. The reason is quite simple – with its very rich heritage of making sportsbikes and a very strong global portfolio of performance oriented motorcycles, it is quite natural to build up hopes from Yamaha for the Indian market.

Though, for most of the times, Yamaha has rather disappointed many with its conventional approach for the Indian two wheeler market. Till last year, the enthusiasts were only left with the R1, R1M, VMax and FZ1 in the liter class and above range. But when Yamaha launched the much awaited YZF R3, hopes once again were strengthened that Yamaha has some good things in its kitty.

And now, Yamaha has managed to surprise the Indian enthusiasts by launching its first ever middleweight offering in the country in the form of the MT-09. With a strong image of a Japanese supermoto, the MT-09 will be one of its kind offering in the middleweight segment. Here’s our quick review on the all new Yamaha MT-09.

2015 Yamaha MT-25

2015 Yamaha MT-25

Yamaha has always had a special spot in the hearts of motorcycling enthusiasts for being one of the very few manufacturers for having a focus in the performance segments. Barring the recent trend of shifting its focus towards fuel efficient scooters, Yamaha has always given the true pocket rockets, which considering the Indian market, include the RX-100, FZ series and the R15.

However, in the past couple of years, the competition has really heated up with the players such as KTM, Kawasaki, Benelli and Honda upping the ante by launching motorcycles in the sub-500cc segments, which happen to form the largest chunk of performance motorcycling. So, it’s quite natural that Yamaha is not going to act like a sitting duck, which is why after launching the YZF-R25 and YZF-R3, the manufacturer has lifted off the covers from its newest quarter liter naked streetfighter, the MT-25.

The MT-25 is nothing but the naked version of the R25, and has been launched in the Indonesian market. The motorcycle is expected to reach the Indian shores within next two years, so it’s pretty obvious that the motorcycle is important for the company in the Indian two wheeler market. Here’s a quick look on the all new Yamaha MT-25.
