Piaggio created quite a stir in the Indian market when it single-handedly planned the re-entrance for the brand ‘Vespa’ in the Indian market. The Vespa takes the best of fine Italian dressing and packs it in a niche retro silhouette. It became a cornucopia of sorts for people wanting a machine that could take them back in time and re-live the classic age.

Then Piaggio introduced the decade’s first 150 cc scooter with the Vespa VXL 150 and set the ball rolling. To increase the appeal selectively, they have now launched a limited edition of the VXL 150 christened as the Vespa Elegante 150 for ₹ 91077 (ex-showroom).

Essentially, the Vespa VXL 150 is just the Vespa VXL 125, but with a bigger engine and a different suffix, not to forget a couple of minutes but prominent cosmetic changes. This special edition Elegante takes it up a notch with respect to cosmetic bits and pieces.

The first element you notice is the tinted fly screen hooked onto the handlebar; which I’ll leave you to contemplate on whether it looks neat or disturbing. Alloy wheels get a silver paint job rather than the black. Then you get the colour coordinated twin leather finished seats for the new colours: Beige Unico and Pearl White. And there is an exclusive ‘Elegante’ Badging to show the world out.

For the Vespa, it is all about the style, and the fact that it also moves fast is kept as a bragging right. This new scooter comes with the same motor running on the VXL 150. It is a four stroke, single cylinder, 3-valve, air cooled, 150cc engine, which is capable enough to belt out 11.6 bhp of maximum power and 11.5 Nm of peak torque.Mated to a CVT transmission, this 150cc engine has a solid punch not only in the lower revs as well as mid-range but also at the higher revs, making this little scooter a powerful tool for your daily riding duties. The scooter delivers promising fuel economy of 45-50 kmpl in the real world conditions, which is considerably lower than the competition.

You could have had the VXL 150 for ₹ 84641 (ex-showroom). But if that was much, this new Elegante will fetch you ₹ 91077 (ex-showroom). For me, I would instead pick the SXL 150 that comes at a price of ₹ 91,430 (ex-showroom).
