2018 Vanguard Roadster
When you imagine a motorcycle, you can see two wheels, handlebar, tank, engine and a saddle being the prominent ones. It is not every day that you see all of this conglomerated but still fail to register that it is a motorcycle; because it looks more like a chauvinist sci-fi industrial ‘thing’ made of metal, metal and metal.
This industrial being is the brand new motorcycle by a brand new American manufacturer that is all about celebrating utilitarianism. The Vanguard Roadster is their first brainchild and it just debuted at the New York Motorcycle Show at Manhattan’s Javitz Center this month, the same city where the motorcycle took shape in. The brand is touted to be an entirely new and distinct premium motorcycle that is decisive on re-shaping the rule books or rather obliterated and flicked it out of the window entirely.
Designed by someone who worked at Confederate bikes, it is not by chance that this motorcycle looks like a metal mountain. Instead of taking the simple route of sticking to either old school or a café-racer styling, not even the cutting-edge superbikes making the cut, Vanguard Roadster adopts a more fanatic industrial silhouette featuring the engine as the structural element that shows off as a unitized crankcase and having the exhaust integrated into the framework. At first, you’ll think ‘what in the god’s name is happening here!!?’, and then when your brain begins to handle the dripping lust, you will thank me for the hankering. Pun totally intended.
