List of limited edition two wheelers launched for festive season of 2016

Most of the changes made are cosmetic but still its a good effort to attract attention

No matter how much slowdown the Indian two wheeler market will be facing, the one time period which brings a smile to all the automobile majors is the festive season of Navratri and Diwali. All the two wheeler manufacturers of the Indian market try their best to make their products as best as possible, by either introducing sweet and tempting deals and discounts, or to increase their profits and margins by launching limited edition models.

Out of these two moves by the two wheeler manufacturers for the festive season, the latter one seems to be more interesting, as it somewhat makes the already existing products a bit more desirable and value for money. These limited edition models do ask a slight premium (sometimes, they don’t ask that premium as well), which we feel is worthy given the fact that they do look a bit different and eye catchy on the road.

Following is a list of all the limited edition models by various two wheeler manufacturers of India for the festive season of 2016, which range from a puny 110cc scooter to a mighty middleweight naked roadster. Here you go:-

Yamaha Alpha vs Hero Duet vs Honda Activa vs TVS Jupiter

Yamaha Alpha vs Hero Duet vs Honda Activa vs TVS Jupiter

The Indian scooter segment has come a long way from the good old times of the likes of Bajaj Chetak, LML Select II and Vespa derived models from the second half of 20th century. Nowadays, the scooter segment has been witnessing a huge rise and spawning of new segments, with even manufacturers like Aprilia venturing into the same space by creating an all new segment of performance oriented scooters in the mass market category with its SR 150. However, the one segment which was, and still is, the biggest volume churner is that of the unisex scooters.

The category of unisex scooters has been the most functional and practical of all the scooters existing in the market. Not only they are the most versatile ones which are used by all kinds of riders irrespective of age and gender, but also are the most practical ones as they focus the most on the core aspects like low maintenance, supple ride quality, usable performance, utility, and most importantly, low maintenance costs.

In recent times, all the manufacturers have started making an impact in this space by launching new and contemporary models. While the Honda Activa has been reigning this segment from day one as far as sales numbers are concerned, TVS has managed to give a tough fight to the Activa with its Jupiter, which provides all the core aspects of the Activa in a much more refined and modern package. Hero, on the other hand, has been trying to bring down the sales of Activa with its all new self developed package, the Duet.

Now recently, Yamaha has updated its sole offering in this category, the Alpha, by giving it a mild facelift with new graphics and a couple of new features and a slight improvement on the front of engine performance and riding dynamics. Last time, when we compared these four scooters – the Hero Duet, Honda Activa, TVS Jupiter and Yamaha Alpha, the Alpha, in its previous generation guise, ended up on the last position, while the Jupiter gained the first position. With the arrival of new Alpha on the block, will the equation change? Let’s find out.

2016 TVS Jupiter ZX

Over the last fifteen years, the Honda Activa has been ruling the automatic scooter segment, to which it gave a fresh lease of life, when the scooter market was almost dying with the departure of Bajaj Chetak and the process of phasing out of the two stroke scooters of the yesteryears. Being a first mover, and that too from a recognized manufacturer like Honda, it was safe to expect a blockbuster journey from Activa, something which is in continuation even today.

But over the years, the Honda Activa has been challenged by a number of players, the most prominent of which is the TVS Jupiter. The unisex scooter from TVS, which was launched back in 2013, has turned out to be an immensely successful product from TVS, which in today’s time, is not only the highest selling TVS product, but also is only second to Honda Activa in terms of volumes in the scooter segment. In the three years of its existence in the Indian market, the Jupiter has been one of the fastest selling scooters, giving a tough fight to all the established rivals.

To keep the momentum going, TVS did launched another variant of the scooter in the form of Jupiter ZX, which promises more premium feel over the regular version of the scooter, thanks to a couple of cosmetic changes and additions over the former. Here’s our quick review of the TVS Jupiter ZX:-

Scooters are definitely the newest trend in the Indian market and we have already said this before and we are saying it once again. The most competitive scooter segment of the market has to be the 110 cc segment where there are plenty of competitors from different manufacturers but the newest competitor in the block surely has gathered lot of positive response from the people being practical for as well as sporty at the same time.
