These Motorcycles are so strong that they are also used in battlefields by the Army.
Royal Enfield introduced the 500 cc motorcycles in the early 1950’s and was sold almost all over the World but mostly became popular in Britain and U.S beside our Indian market. The design and the motorcycle itself became so popular that its design theory remained unchanged for almost 30 years. Styling has always been the first priority with many cruiser owners of the country. Every cruiser fan wants their motorcycle to look muscular and should carry some of the Classic looks and design language with it. Royal Enfield designers knows this fact very well and that is why they have kept the vintage look of the motorcycle intact and only brought minor changes where it was needed.
Take a look at the Classic 500 and you will still find the same old huge round shaped headlamps at the front which now has small twin Pilot lamps; the huge headlamp is surrounded by a steel cap. The headlamp cluster also consists of the analogue instrument console which consists of an analogue speedometer and fuel indicator in twin round pods which quite frankly looks too simple, if we look at them from the modern point of view. The large fuel tank has always been the specialty of any cruiser motorcycles and you will also find one here in the Classic 500, the fuel tank also has soft thigh pads for the comfort of the rider beside that the Royal Enfield logo looks superb on the fuel tank and even on top of it. Take a look at the seats and you will be surprised to see that they have been lifted straight from a vintage Royal Enfield motorcycle. The wide and comfortable seats and the exposed springs will definitely grab you attention.
The massive engine is placed right in the middle of the cruiser to maintain the overall balance of the motorcycle, for the first time you will also find the number 500 engulfed on the engine. The rear design of the motorcycle is also a straight lift from the post war era, the huge rear mudguard and the centrally placed tail lamps compliments this Classic motorcycle perfectly.
Overall the Classic 500 will definitely attract those who love to won a vintage motorcycles but the modern cruiser lovers may find the styling and instruments little dated.

Although the looks and styling of this motorcycle is old but is quite young at heart. The engine which powers this motorcycle is very modern and technologically advanced piece of machine, The Classic 500 is powered by a 4 stroke, single cylinder Twinspark, 499 cc engine which generates 27.2 bhp of power at 5250 rpm and an impressive 41.3 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm, it has been mated to a 5 speed constant mesh gearbox. One specialty of this new engine is that the entire unit including the gearbox and the engine itself is placed inside one single casing, which helps reduce the friction and thus in return increases the life of the engine. This unit also has an Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system which was developed along with Keihin, Japan, this in particular helps in increasing the throttle response.
This cruiser is not meant for extreme performance so just hop on its back switch on the ignition twist the throttle relax and just cruise along the road. The motorcycle with its developed technology now returns an impressive fuel economy too, thus one can also use it for daily commute within the city limit or if you are on the open road the Classic 500 can even cruise quite comfortably at high speeds and still the engine won’t feel stressed, all the creadit goes to Royal Enfields neat engineering, dedication and the motorcycle’s smooth gearbox and impressive amount of torque.

The Royal Enfield Classic 500 is not a light motorcycle it weighs near about 190kgs with 90% fuel but the rider won’t feel the weight once they are on the move. Royal Enfield motorcycles are known for their handling and comfortable ride and this motorcycle is not so different either, it is fitted with Telescopic, 35mm forks, 130mm travel at its front and Twin gas charged shock absorbers with 5-step adjustable preload, 80mm travel at its rear which easily handles any type of Indian road. It also comes fitted with wider rear tyres which provides enough amount of grip, the Classic 500 is fitted with a standard 280mm Disc, 2-Piston caliper at its front and 153mm Drum, Single Lead Internal Expanding brakes at its rear which obviously is capable of bringing the motorcycle to a halt, still the Royal Enfield Thunderbird uses a rear disc brakes which has improved the handling of that motorcycle one step further.
The wide handlebars, low slung sit, big foot pegs and the gas filled rear shock absorbers makes the Classic 500 a perfect handling machine.
