Your favourite motorcycle makers to skip the 2018 Auto Expo.
High participation costs and low returns steer them away from participation at the biennial event.
South Asia’s biggest biennial Auto Expo will be back for the 14th edition at India Exposition Mart Ltd (IEML) in Greater Noida, New Delhi. Spread for six days in the February of 2018, the Motor Show will bring in a great opportunity to see some spectacular vehicles, some radical concepts and enchanting conversations about anything automotive.
But it is not the case with a few of the manufacturers who have decided to stay away from the Expo floors this year citing economical confrontations. Most of who have a huge presence in the country’s automotive market. And they include both two wheel and four wheel vehicle manufacturers.

With the first northern cold breeze blowing from the north, the countdown for 2018 New Delhi Auto Expo has begun. The shiny, glossy body frames, vibrant colours, automotive chit chats, new car and bike launches – all of which will be the talks you will all have hereon.
The 80,000 square meters of the Expo floors will be filled with enthralling appearances from the who’s who of the auto world and some newbies showcasing their work of art for the Indian eyes. Incidentally, in 2016 nearly 65 brands showcased their products at the event. Sadly, there will be few major brands missing this time.
Two wheel manufacturers who have opted to stay off the Auto Expo 2018 include Bajaj, Ducati, Royal Enfield and Harley-Davidson. Likeways, prominent players in the four-wheel world like Ford India Pvt. Ltd, Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd, Skoda India Pvt. Ltd, Audi India Pvt. Ltd, Nissan India Pvt. Ltd, and General Motors India Pvt. Ltd have also wished not to display their products at the upcoming show.
Of course, posh European and American brands like Indian Motorcycles, Husqvarna, MV Agusta, BMW Motorrad, Maserati, Aston Martin, Volvo, Jaguar, Porsche, Ferrari and Lamborghinis have always steered away from showcasing their vehicles at the show since there is very less traction for them for the Indian market.
Citing financial conditions like high participation costs and heavy taxations, the auto makers have deterred from participating at the country’s biggest Auto show. Some claim to have very low response rate from this participation, and few say non-availability of India-specific models to showcase as grounds to stay away.
India just became the largest market for two-wheelers in the world overtaking China by 17.7 million two-wheelers. And knowing about our favourite brands making a miss this time is a bit hurtful for sure. Although nothing can be said with certainty, one must not be expecting them to be present.
Bajaj Auto feel that they need not participate in the Auto Expo as they are already well known in the Indian market. They would rather participate in an Auto Expo in countries like Nigeria where they can showcase their products to a new market and build brand awareness.
Nonetheless, those who will share floor space are all getting ready to showcase their products for us to admire. We will get to see some exciting new models, some new launches including world launches and hopefully a few concepts at the upcoming event.
Stay tuned and we will keep you updated.
The tickets will be soon made available by the organisers on their website and public ticketing platforms.
