Honda brings this madness to our streets and I cannot stop being a kid again.

Honda made everyone sweat when they launched the CBR900RR in 1992 having huge power numbers and weighing lesser than the closest competitor. For the Fireblade’s 25th anniversary, Honda has gone big with the updated engine, chassis, electronic suspension and a whole bunch of rider aids package all combined with the hefty weight loss giving the rivals a run for their money.

Yesterday, the Japanese Red launched the screaming CBR 1000 RR Fireblade in all pomp and fanfare.

In a world where outright horsepower and straight-line speed hold centre stage, Honda’s attempt is to set what an open class sports bike should be. With all that hype about the increase in power and weight reduction, we can at least tell that Honda has taken the step in the right direction with the right formula. With all the available driver aids, owning and riding one of these machines is going to be a blissful experience no doubt.

This updated model from Honda is said to be an evolution rather than a revolution because close to 70 percent of the parts that make up this bike is completely new as opposed to the previous models. Although the overall geometry of the new blade remains similar to the previous model, the fairings have been thinned down by reducing the material around few areas while exposing the motor surfaces.

This blade makes use of LED cluster set back inside the fairing gives it a meaner looking face. The instrument panel is also refreshed with the full-colour TFT liquid crystal dash borrowed from the RC213V-S.The fuel tank is now titanium (first in class) along with the exhaust system and muffler.

Honda has continued its weight loss program with the engine as well by overhauling the motor for the 2017 CBR. The in-line four pot uses, for the first time, a throttle by wire control helping the power gain to 189 bhp (11bhp more) while the red line now goes all the way up to 13000 rpm from the previous 12250 rpm with peak torque of 116 Nm @ 10,500rpm. The compression ratio is up to 13.0:0 from 12.3:1. The power to weight ratio has increased by 14 percent.The new slip-assist clutch system makes use of the quick shifter for those clutchless upshifts and electronically assisted downshifts with auto-blipper.

The CBR1000RR is one of the few bikes that don’t go wrong in the handling department. They have always been touted as the best handling bike by enthusiasts. This updated model, however, ups the game by introducing a wide range of electronics aiding the rider into a more aggressive rideability and at the same time keeping him/her safer than ever. The brand new five-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU), Ohlins suspension setup, Brembo callipers all perform to the optimum industry levels.

Honda has now officially launched this product in our country and is priced at a staggering ₹ 17.61 lakh (ex-showroom) and this it sure to make other players have a grim on their sales (₹ 23.5 lakh for the SP2 version). Hooning with a sharply angled new logo, the CBR will be available in a Tri-Color paint option that uses red as its base (rather than white) and pays homage to Honda’s racing tradition and history. Wing-motif patterns underpin the machine’s exclusivity.

Although Yamaha R1 retains top position in the performance sector, the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10RR being as technically sound superbike as it is, the Honda CBR1000RR, will lock horns with these two juggernauts and has to impress a lot to catch up to these guys.

First unveiled at the EICMA 2016 in Milan, Italy, the 2017 CBR1000RR Fireblade SP marks 25 years since the celebrated machine re-wrote the rules of the Super Sport segment. At the heart of the 2017 Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade is a 999cc in-line four cylinder engine, producing 189bhp at 13,000rom and 114Nm at 11,000rpm output mated to six-speed transmission.

Its relentless focus on handling and agility under the mantra of ‘Total Control’ continues, with 90% of main components revised for a 16kg weight reduction to a class-leading 195kg. Coupled with an 8kW top end power boost, it improves the new Fireblade’s power to weight ratio by 14%, to a level hitherto unseen in its history. For 2017, the Fireblade now moves into ‘Next Stage Total Control’, with a comprehensive electronic control package featuring a new gyroscopic ABS system, Throttle by Wire (TBW), 9 Level Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), Selectable Engine Brake (SEB), Honda Electronic Steering Damper (HESD) and Power Selector. All these parameters can be precisely adjusted with the Riding Mode Select System (RMSS), Fireblade uses a full-color TFT liquid crystal dash to clearly communicate information to the rider, inspired by the RC213V-S street legal version of Honda’s MotoGP machine.

CBR 1000RR Fireblade SP is the first Honda motorcycle to be equipped with semi-active Öhlins Electronic Control(S-EC) suspension front and rear:a 43mm NIX30 fork and TTX36 shock,Quickshifter (Downshift Assist) and Lithium-Ion battery.

The 25th anniversary CBR 1000RR Fireblade starts at Rs 17.61 lacs (ex-showroom New Delhi) and will be available in 2 variants i.e. CBR 1000RR Fireblade & CBR 1000RR Fireblade SP.
