Find out where the upcoming motorcycle stands infront of its rival

Bajaj Auto is almost on the verge of launching their upcoming power cruiser which they will most probably call Dominar400. This motorcycle will be their flagship offering for the Indian market but won’t be launched under the Pulsar sub brand. This will be the production variant of the CS400 concept which was showcased almost 2 years ago at the 2014 Auto expo. The motorcycle when launched has plenty of rivals to locks its horns with, some of the biggest names of this entry level performance motorcycles includes KTM Duke 390, Mahindra Mojo, Benelli TNT300 etc. While there will be plenty more entrant as well launching next year from the likes BMW and Suzuki.

Now because KTM already introduced the new Duke390 in the International market there is still some more time to actually wait and find out what changes will be made to the Indian spec variant when it finally launches here in 2017. The second biggest rival right now for the Bajaj Dominar is definitely Mahindra’s flagship offering the Mojo which too became an instant hit since its launch because of its touring capabilities.

So today we have decided to provide you all the details of the upcoming Bajaj Dominar 400 and the existing Mahindra Mojo and find out which provides a better deal.

STYLING

Before going into any other details let us inform you that Bajaj has decided to retain the same design as seen on the concept even in the production variant of the motorcycle. We are still not sure whether this will work in favour of the motorcycle manufacturer or not but from what it looks like the new motorcycle has takes some of its styling cues from the Ducati Diavel power cruiser. However for the first time Bajaj has decided to equip the motorcycle with plenty of new features which includes an all new LED headlamp which will definitely be segment first, which will later also be followed by full digital instrument cluster and a second digital screen positioned on the fuel tank. The motorcycle will also get extended handlebars and low seat height which will prove comfortable for the riders during long rides. Lastly the motorcycle also gets LED taillamps as well.

Now compared to the Bajaj Dominar 400 the Mahindra Mojo looks little less tempting and little less muscular than the Dominar 400. The twin pod headlamps might look a little odd but styling is a subjective matter. Some of the other exciting features of the Mojo got to be its double exhaust at the rear and its impressive 21 litre fuel tank. The Mojo also gets black alloy wheels which are also found on the Dominar400 but the later is wrapped in Pirelli rubbers.

POWERTRAIN COMPARISON

Now here comes the most interesting part the Bajaj Dominar 400 will be powered by the same 373 cc, single cylinder liquid cooled engine which actually does not produce as much power as its produces in the Duke390. Instead Bajaj has decided to retune the engine and make it little less aggressive and more user friendly and fuel efficient. So according to the recent reports on the internet the Domninar 400 will produce only 34 Hp of peak power while expect it to be produce almost 35 Nm of torque at the same time. This engine will be paired to a 6 speed grearbox.

As far as the Mahindra Mojo is concerned compared to the Dominar 400 this motorcycle is slightly less powerful and is also powered by a smaller 295 cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled, fuel injected engine which is capable of producing about 27 Ps of peak power at 8000 rpm and 30 Nm of torque at 5500 rpm. This engine is also paired to a 6 speed gearbox as well. If we talk about fuel efficiency while the Mojo promises to return around 36 kmpl expect the Bajaj Dominar which is powered by a slightly bigger engine to return around 30 kmpl.

PRICE COMPARISONS

The Mahindra Mojo as you all know is already available in the Indian market and is priced at INR. 1.63 Lakhs ex showroom Delhi. You can expect the Bajaj Dominar to also be priced at around INR. 1.63 Lakhs onwards for the non ABS variant while the top end ABS variant with all the bells and whistles will be priced above INR. 1.8 lakhs ex showroom.

VERDICT

Bajaj is definitely pitching their upcoming motorcycle as a cruiser which will take on some other tourers of its segment. This will definitely be comfortable for the rider because of its ergonomics and comfortable seats. This motorcycle also has better headlamps which definitely is one useful thing during touring, furthermore it also has a duel channel ABS setup as well for the safety of the rider.

The Mahindra Mojo on the other hand has been here in the Indian market for quite some time now and it has quite a fan following too for its out of the box styling and touring credentials. However compared to the upcoming Bajaj Dominar400 the Mojo is actually little less powerful but that does not actually hide the fact that the motorcycle definitely comes with some fancy hardwares as well which makes it ideal for touring
