STYLING

This is one particular aspect which the MV Agusta F4 packs in abundance. Among all the supersports currently existing in the world, the MV Agusta F4 easily claims the title of the most beautiful and exotic looking fully faired supersport, even after the fact all of its competitors have received their currently existing updates much later on. The main reason behind the beauty of the F4 is the fact that each and every corner and panel of the bike exhibits wonderful and meticulous detailing, making it THE piece of art on two wheels.

At the front, the MV Agusta F4 has a very rakish front full fairing, at the center of which sits a petite diamond shaped headlamp assembly, within which sits a centrally mounted projector headlamp which is flanked by two small LED pilot lamps. Outside this headlamp assembly, there are two more horizontally laid stripes of daytime running blue LED guide lights, which are positioned below the two accurately placed spoilers below the headlamp. This entire design makes the motorcycle look extremely aerodynamic, while the LEDs enhance its visibility in both day and night. The bike does have mounts for rear view mirrors, which surprisingly are offered as a part of optional equipment, and not standard.

The beautifully sculpted frontal fairing extends soulfully towards the side of the F4 as well, which manages to cover the engine fully, with two small vents on the upper portions of the side fairing, thus helping the engine to dispose the hot air of it. The large fuel tank has nice characteristic lines and curves, which comfortably snug the riders of all heights. The single piece seat as well as tail section are raised at quite a height, with the tail section having nicely styled creases and bulges just like the fuel tank. The tail section ends up in a small V-shaped LED tail lamp assembly, below which sits the under-seat exhaust pipes with four end pipes which look exceptional, which give the F4 a unique identity when viewed from the rear. The absence of a proper rear fender accentuates the fact that it is crafted specially for your track duties.

Like the entire design of the F4, the fully digital instrument console on the motorcycle has a sense of emotion in its layout. The unit might not be futuristic to look at, but has a nice contemporary feel to it, in the right amount of course. The unit has digital readouts for speedometer, tachometer, odometer, trip meters, gear indicator, selected ride mode, temperature gauge and lap timer. Needless to say, each and every panel on the motorcycle carries the traditional trademark of attention to detailing which MV Agusta is famously known for. Not to forget, the build quality and fit and finish exude premium quality, which is the best you can get on a motorcycle.

POWERTRAIN

At the heart of the beautiful MV Agusta F4 sits an equally exhilarating four stroke, liquid cooled, fuel injected, four cylinder, 16-valve, 998cc engine, which has the capacity to pump out a maximum power output of 197 PS and a peak torque output of 110.8 Nm. Unlike the sleek and subtle styling of the motorcycle, the engine has an altogether different hooligan character, with the engine being a powerhouse which loves to be revved to its limits all the times.

Starting off with a very different sounding exhaust note, the top end of the rev range is blessed with the most amount of power. And thanks to the short ratios of the cassette style 6-speed gearbox to which the engine is mated, the power band available across the rev range is utilized in a precise and sharp manner. The engine does get the assistance of ride by wire technology, engine control unit Eldor EM2.0, throttle body full drive by wire Mikuni, pencil-coil with ion-sensing technology, control of detonation and misfire - torque control with four maps, Traction Control with eight levels of intervention with lean angle sensor, TSS Torque Shift System employing variable length intake runners, Electronic quick-shift MV EAS (Electronically Assisted Shift) ready, all of which make this motorcycle less intimidating to ride.

RIDE AND HANDLING

Italians are known for making motorcycles which apart from looking good, handle extremely precisely when in right hands, thanks to the best level of hardware which these motorcycles are blessed with. Same is the case with the MV Agusta F4. Sitting on a lightweight CrMo steel tubular trellis frame and having a beautifully looking and sturdy single sided aluminium swing-arm at the rear, the F4 is bestowed with 50mm Marzocchi inverted telescopic hydraulic forks with adjustable rebound-compression damping and external spring preload at the front and a progressive Sachs single shock absorber with rebound and compression (High speed/Low speed) damping and spring preload adjustment at the rear. As in every other supersport, the MV Agusta F4’s suspension too is set on a stiffer side, which is not meant for munching up long miles, but eating up the corners of a track with extreme precision. At 191 kgs, the F4 is pretty light-weighted as well.

To bring this motorcycle to a halt from all the action as a response to the twisting throttle, the F4 comes fitted 320mm dual disc brakes at the front and a single 210mm disc brake at the rear, which do get the aid of a dual channel ABS with Race mode and RLM (Rear wheel lift-up mitigation) as standard.

PRICE

MV Agusta is known for making some of the most exotic and premium sportbikes all over the world, which are targeted to a niche audience which value art over performance. Going with the tradition, the MV Agusta F4 is priced at a whopping price tag of Rs. 26.87 lakh, making it much more expensive than all of its liter class supersport competitors. The motorcycle, like its stable mates, is brought to India through CBU route, which somewhat is a reason behind its exorbitant price tag.
The motorcycle is available in two sober looking and quintessentially Italian paint shades of Red and White.

COMPETITION

Given its Italian roots, the MV Agusta has the Aprilia RSV4 in its crosshairs. Both these motorcycles have made a deep impact in the world of superposrts, but with different traits of their own. While the MV Agusta F4 purely steals the show over the slightly awkward looking RSV4 when it comes to design, in terms of performance and riding dynamics, it is the RSV4 which has a slight edge over the F4.

Aprilia RSV4

The Aprilia RSV4 comes fitted with a four stroke, liquid cooled, fuel injected, V-4, 999.6cc engine, the maximum power output of which stands at 203 PS and the peak torque output at 115 Nm, both of which are much more than the figures posted by the F4. The list of electronic riding aids as well as the prowess of chassis is more or less the same as that of the F4’s.

CONCLUSION

Like we said earlier in this story, the F4 is not your everyday sportsbikes, it is a wet dream of a supersport enthusiast, a motorcycle which all of you might dream of with its poster plastered in your bedroom. With an absolutely smashing and timeless design which is wonderfully crafted, the F4 is surely that one motorcycle which has the ability to make one go for it blind-foldedly just on the basis of the way it looks. But that doesn’t mean that it lacks on other fronts – the four cylinder engine has an aggressive power delivery, and on the other hand, its light weighted chassis and stiff suspension make sure that it handles just as beautiful as the way it looks. All in all, the MV Agusta F4 is that one motorcycle which you can stare all night long, but at the same time, can’t wait to take it for a spin to your nearest track or closed circuit.
