Yamaha FZ when launched back in the year 2008 attracted huge attention from the people; it was appreciated for its good looks and powerful engine in its class. Since then Yamaha has not launched any new motorcycles except the R15 Version 2.0 and few scooters. When the Japanese two wheeler giant saw that other two wheeler manufacturers started launching their new products in the Indian market and the demand of their motorcycles are slowly going downwards then Yamaha decided to launch an updated version of their naked FZ-S in the Indian market.

First showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo Delhi, the FZ-S Version 2.0 surely grabbed lot of eyeballs, we have later have seen it being tested on the Indian roads which confirmed the fact that the launch of the version 2.0 is not far enough, but nobody knew exactly what Yamaha will be offering in their new motorcycle which will set it apart from its predecessor. Take a look at the new Yamaha FZ-S and instantly you will realize that the new bike looks more slimmer than its predecessor. You will also notice that the new motorcycle has received a sporty split seats which has changed the overall styling of the motorcycle to a great extent. You will also notice that the FZ-S Version 2.0 also has been fitted with a new tyre hugger at the rear of the motorcycle while at the front you will notice bigger air scoops under the fuel tank which has given the motorcycle more dynamic appeal. However the biggest change that the new FZ-S has received comes in the form of a new exhaust end cap which is also one reason why the new motorcycle looks more sporty and slick.

Now those above mentioned changes will definitely catch your attention, take a closer look and you will notice that the new FZ-S Version 2.0 comes with a new fully digitalised instrument console which also comes with a new Eco indicator. The new FZ-S also received new graphics which helps differentiate the new motorcycle from its predecessor. Beside all these the wide rear tyre which is perhaps another exciting feature of the motorcycle too received a new tread.

Overall the new motorcycle does manage to look different from its predecessor and also weighs less by almost 3 kilograms which definitely added to the better handling characteristics of the motorcycle.

The new Yamaha FZ-S Version 2.0 is powered by an Air cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve engine with a displacement of 149 cc unfortunately its predecessor had a bigger engine displacement of 153 cc. The new FZ-S also generates less power than its predecessor; the tweaked engine now generates 13.1PS of peak power at 8000 rpm and 12.8 Nm of peak torque at 6000 rpm (Its predecessor used to generate 14PS of power at 7,500 rpm and 13.6 Nm of torque).

Now coming to the new feature of this engine, both the Yamaha FZ-S and FZ has now a fuel injected engine which helps to deliver best engine performance at all speeds and also ensures high fuel efficiency combustion by delivering right amount of fuel to the engine depending on the riding condition. Yamaha is also claiming a 14 percent improvement in the fuel efficiency over its predecessor.

Yamaha has reduced the overall power output of the new motorcycle and thus it delivers less power than the old FZ-S but what has improved instead is the fuel efficiency. As already mentioned above Yamaha claims that the the new FZ-S now delivers 14 percent better fuel efficiency than its predecessor which definitely is good news for those who wants a fuel efficient motorcycle in this class. It also weighs less than its predecessor which definitely will effect its overall handling. Although the new motorcycle may not turn heads with its styling but it surely has become a better competitor than its predecessor technically.

30th June, 2014 : Yamaha Motor India Sales Pvt. Ltd., today launched 2 new models to comprise its very successful FZ Series. The new models FZ Version 2.0 and FZ-S Version 2.0 are mounted with a newly designed air-cooled 149cc 4-stroke, SOHC, single-cylinder fuel-injected engine on a lightweight frame to realize the product concept of a "Sharpened & Power-packed New FZ." With the launch of these new models targeted at young men between the ages of 18-30, the company hopes to see a steep growth in the customer base, especially keeping in mind the mileage conscious target audience.

The eagerly-anticipated launch took place today at J W Marriott Hotel, New Delhi as Bollywood heartthrob John Abraham unveiled the new models to public applause and delight. The new FZ Version 2.0 and FZ-S Version 2.0 will be available in the market beginning July 2014.

The FZ Series motorcycles were first introduced in 2008 and went on to win a following primarily among trend-conscious young men. The features that make the FZ models so popular are its outstanding acceleration in city riding and its distinctive styling and design. Building on the reputation, the new FZ Series models have been newly developed with Yamaha’s New Generation Engine Development Ideal – ’Blue Core’ featuring improved performance in all areas, including fuel efficiency, acceleration and environmental friendliness.
