Moto Guzzi MGX-21
Moto Guzzi has been the greatest brands in the motorcycling world and boasts of nearly a century of rich history and expertise helping them produce motorcycles that are often ahead of their time. The company has not, even for today, compromised its Italian soul be it the race track or the streets. And for the first time in the company’s portfolio, it has developed a motorcycle that expresses the same influence of its past in an increasingly personal and an exclusively styled machine that you can tour and put your favourite music on.
Given the evocative sobriquet as the “Flying Fortress”, the MGX-21 is Italian’s take at the traditionally styled cruisers and tourers or what we also call as Baggers, a mainstay of motorcycling in America.
It has been nearly thirty-five years since McLaren first made use of carbon-fibre to build a monocoque chassis for its Formula One car. Since then, it has come a long way into making its use as both an aesthetical and functional unit of high-end production products as this MGX-21 which is abbreviated for Moto Guzzi eXperimental and 21’, the year when the first motorcycle came out of the Mandello del Lario factory.
This motorcycle was primarily developed to boost the brand’s American sales and now has entered the Indian shores along with the V9s’. As stealth as something on two wheels can get, this motorcycle features everything you would expect in a bagger. Half-fairings, sound system, hard panniers, comfy saddle and a whole lot of flair being exuberated; if you can still see it after it has absorbed all forms of radiations.
2017 Moto Guzzi V9
Celebrating 95 years for a company is a big thing and to have survived against all odds was a mountainous task for Moto Guzzi. Even after having such a rich racing history of winning almost 3000 races and a couple dozen world championships, the name Moto Guzzi had eerily vanished from the motorcycle scene, until now. The calm before the storm.
Paying tribute to this past efforts of custom motorcyclists, MG headed to a major revival plan and launched the new range of V9 platform that angles towards the cruiser style rather than the V7’s roadster theme. And the first offerings are in the form of the mainstream-custom “Roamer,” and the more sinister “Bobber”.
Manufacturers and now foraying into the current wave of enthusiasts wanting custom and classic motorbikes. And for Moto Guzzi, it has its own deep roots to draw upon for inspiration from which the ‘V9s have been prepped up for the consciousness of the new generation of motorcycling.
The V9 Roamer and the V9 Bobber are the same breed of bikes that differ slightly to imprint two different characters but carries the same soul.
2017 Moto Guzzi Audace
Moto Guzzi is a brand filled with products considered to be carrying a rebel spirit, a unique personality that often goes against the flow. The history books is proof that this Larian eagle is riddled us all with some unusual but unique choices like the transversal V 90, a skill for innovation, records in the sports field, the renowned eight-cylinder engine and more. Moto Guzzi was never shy in showing them off 95 years ago neither are they today.
Moto Guzzi’s “dark soul” the Audace (Auda/tʃ/e), in theory, is a cruiser. But when Guzzi decided to provide it with the award winning v-twin newly developed by the historic marque, the Moto Guzzi California, out came a pro-street blacked-out tire-burner Audace.

Moto Guzzi at Auto Expo 2016
Italians are indeed genius when it comes to automobile engineering and designing. Though they are not as technically appealing as the Japanese, but what the machines of Italy try to manage is that they have a soul, which is hard to match by others. The European nation has given a number of remarkable motorcycles coming from the stable of marquees like Ducati, Benelli, Aprilia, Vespa and Moto Guzzi, the last one being the latest manufacturer in the world of two wheeler motoring.
Though, an average Indian Joe is not as familiar with Moto Guzzi as the rest of the names aforementioned above. But for a layman, we can say that Moto Guzzi is for Italy, what Harley Davidson is for United States – the manufacturer is well known in international circuits for its range of cruisers and retro themed motorcycles, which are high on design and technical appeal.
To make the Indians more aware of their beautiful machines, folks from Moto Guzzi displayed four of their brilliant motorcycles at the Auto Expo 2016. While two of them are already on sale in the Indian market, the rest of the two marked their debut on the Indian soil, and will be launched soon in the country.
Here’s a comprehensive description of all the four motorcycles which were showcased by Moto Guzzi at the Auto Expo 2016.
Café racers – until 2013, this concept of motorcycles was almost unheard in the Indian context of motorcycling. The segment of café racers, which has been very popular in the European bike markets since a long time, was totally absent in the Indian bike market. The complete scenario changed when Triumph made a grand debut in the Indian biking scenario in the early 2013, the motorcycle portfolio of which also included the 865cc Thruxton. The Thruxton not only was the first ever café racer of India, but also was one of the motorcycles which found the laying stone of the middle weight motorcycle category – a segment which is the hottest and most popular one right now.
Seeing the success and response which the Thruxton got from the motorcycling aficionados, other manufacturers too got prompted to come up with their own café racers. But unlike other segments, the café racers don’t contribute much in the overall sales volumes, as they aren’t too practical on the daily usage basis. Which is why, not every other manufacturer is jumping into the bandwagon of producing café racers. The philosophy of café racers of being motorcycles with a single seat do causes a big dent in its practicality, but this very essence makes it the most distinguished and unique category of motorcycles.
Being the most niche segment, only a handful of café racers are available in the Indian bike market, which though range all the way from a puny 100cc commuter to all the way up to 1170cc superbike. Here’s a comprehensive list of all the five different café racers which have managed to redefine the motorcycling scenario of India, and gave their respective manufacturers credits for taking the bold step of producing such kind of niche motorcycles:-
