TVS reveals about its Akula launch in Indonesia
Working on a somewhat similar frame as the KTM-Bajaj, TVS took the jump with BMW Motorrad, especially after their stunt with Suzuki did not quite hit the cord. Both TVS and BMW will be sharing and developing platforms together to distribute products locally and the global stage. This joint venture will benefit TVS by bringing in investments and expertise to further broaden their R&D capability to improve on existing projects and bring in new innovations across their product lineup. In fact, TVS has already showcased a concept, touted to be the flagship motorcycle for the company.
According to OTOMOTIFNET.COM, Mr Aditya Putra from Corporate Communication of PT TVS Motor Company, Indonesia, confirmed to them that TVS plans to bring a new sports product, to Indonesia in the first half of 2017. And we believe it is the Akula 310. The Akula 310 will, however, be christened as the Apache RTR 300 in India.
BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100
BMW is not some run of the mill company. It has one of the most prestigious history books and for nearly a century, they have been making impeccable products that beam innovation and technological acumen. Started as an aircraft engine manufacturer, BMW started manufacturing two wheelers in 1923 with the R32 that made use of the iconic flat-twin boxer configuration engine.
100 years down the line, BMW Motorrad still uses this boxer engine to power the finest of the finest motorcycles. To commemorate this heritage, BMW has offered us a sneak at how its next 100 years is going to be by showcasing the BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100 at the “Iconic Impulses. The BMW Group Future Experience” exhibition in Los Angeles.
After giving us saliva bubbles with its vision of the future through the MINI, Rolls-Royce and the BMW concepts, BMW now gives us BMW Motorrad Vision Next 100, a motorcycle that is a completely radical concept of the traditional machine on two wheels today. Almost like being officiated at the altar of Utopia, this is “the essence of motorcycling and a symbol of the ultimate riding experience of the future” according to Adrian van Hooydonk, Senior Vice President BMW Group Design.
Munich-based industrial designer who goes by the name Christian Zanzotti has come out with his latest creation using a newfangled piece of technology, the virtual reality.
Zanzotti’s approach to design is a highly emotional one and at the same time characterised by reduced forms. His striking designs lead to outstanding results by exploring technological boundaries which have also won him the German Design Award as Best Newcomer of the Year in 2014. His designs include products that range far and wide, from whiskey bottles and time-trackers to tables and chairs. But now, he’s tried his hand at designing a breath-taking motorcycle. A machine that lurked his interests ever since his childhood.
2017 BMW R NineT Urban G/S
Success was not a problem with BMW, especially for their R NineT. It has absolutely been a hit story for the German ever since it launched the R Nine T in 2013. It was so good that BMW struggled initially to keep up with the demand and they released one version after the other in succession to the world stage that include the Pure (roadster) and Racer (café/endurance-style), as well as the Scrambler. It is a no brainer that BMW Motorrad will see it fitting to extend their range even further.
The GS motorcycles refers to either Gelände/Straße (German: off-road/road) and are distinguished by their long travel suspension, upright riding position and larger front wheels. Taking up the same moniker is the Urban G/S which is purpose built street-oriented motorcycle that has a charm bound to resonate with onlookers. Based on the ‘Lac Rose’ concept seen at Wheels and Waves earlier this year, the German finally took the wraps off their new 2017 BMW R nineT Urban G/S at this year’s EICMA in Milan.
Paying homage to the original 1980 BMW R80G/S, this urban combines the classic motorcycle with modern technology and sophisticated craftsmanship that can transport anyone back to the days when the GS abbreviation meant a sense of freedom and the passion for adventure on two wheels, both on-road and off-road. But this time they’re for looks and not for bashing your way across unpaved expanses of Africa.
BMW - TVS entering a new era of partnership.
BMW Motorrad has not necessarily been a household name. With them costing a bomb to import and maintaining them was a nightmare for the complexity the Bavarian company had put into them. But things are up for a change as we speak and by the time you will be reading this piece, TVS is already producing a single cylinder G 310R for BMW in their Hosur plant in full swing.
It is generally a thing with BMW that once you buy their bike, they will pretty much be the brand you will buy for the rest of your life. But, the problem for BMW was that people who never owned one would never consider their motorcycle in their decision making process. And there is a good point for ‘why?’. They made motorcycles which were simply too quirky, and by that, BMW purists know that it was that very stigma which pulled them into the motorcycle brand. For the rest of the crowd, those motorcycles were just not relevant to the traditional categories of segments.
BMW HP4 RACE
You know that it is a big deal when BMW themselves call it ‘the most exclusive BMW motorcycle of all time’.
At this year’s EICMA, BMW Motorrad revealed to the world an initial glimpse of the most exclusive model in its history to date: the sinister looking BMW HP4 RACE. It is an advanced prototype of the power star, the S 1000RR-HP4 with full carbon fibre twin-spar main frame and rims that are made in the same factory that makes carbon fibre components for BMW’s iconic ‘i-series’ and 7 series of cars. It will be a purposeful hand built motorcycle by the blokes at BMW and should begin with supplying this limited edition of limited editions in the second half of 2017.
BMW Motorrad India Confirmed That The G 310 GS Duel Sport Version Will Launch In India In 2017
BMW Motorrad’s entry level duel sport motorcycle BMW G310 GS made its debut at the EICMA motorcycle show. We all are excited about this new motorcycle which actually based on their streetfighter G 310 R but carries the GS nameplate which is used for BMW’s touring and offroading motorcycle initials. Recently BMW Motorrad officially confirmed through their twitter handle that they will be introducing this new motorcycle in the Indian market towards the end of 2017.
This motorcycle will be BMW’s second sub 500 cc offering in the world market after the naked streetfighter G 310R. The motorcycle is also slightly bigger than the G310 R. As far as the powertrain is concerned it is powered by the same 313 cc water-cooled, single-cylinder engine which is capable of producing about 34 PS of peak power at 9,500 rpm and 28 Nm of torque at 7,500 rpm. The EUIV complaint engine is paired to a 6 speed gearbox.
The extra additional equipments that you get with the G310 GS includes a longer suspension travel of 180 mm upside down forks towards the front and 180 mm monoshock setup for the rear as well. As far as the styling is concerned the duel sport motorcycle gets a bigger and longer beak towards the front while the GS initials can be found on the fuel tank. The rest of the motorcycle’s styling remains the same with that of the G 310 R Streetfighter.
The motorcycle will be manufactured at the TVS-BMW manufacturing plant in Hosur, Tamil Nadu.
2017 BMW G310 GS
While we did not get over the fact completely that BMW is actually launching an entry level naked streetfighter in India which will be affordable for common people. Then BMW again drops a bomb in the form of a new spyshot which actually turns out to be of a new dual purpose motorcycle based on the same G310R motorcycle which will be launched in the Indian market towards the end of this year.
There was a lot of doubt about what the motorcycle will be called but there was a rumour that BMW might add the GS initial before or after their new dual purpose motorcycle. Now that it is finally introduced that rumour actually came true the G 310 R based adventurer tourer actually was called G 310 GS and it not only borrows the initials but styling as well.
BMW finally took the covers off the new much anticipated motorcycles at the 2016 EICMA Motorcycle show and to our surprise this looked nothing like the motorcycle that it is based upon instead it borrowed all its styling from the bigger GS series of motorcycles. As far as the powertrain is concerned the G310 GS will be powered by the same 313 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine known from the G 310 R.
