Yamaha Aerox 155 VS Aprilia SXR 160 - A Comprehensive Analysis With Our Sensible Hat On

Can the Yamaha Aerox spoil the party for the Aprilia SXR 160? Well, lets find out

Remember Kinetic Blaze from 2006? It may not have sold like hotcakes, but the scooter was very much ahead of its time, even before 150 cc motorcycles became common in India. Indians at that time preferred mileage first over performance. Moreover, there was also no highway riding culture back then that led to its downfall.

But times have changed and buyers are now more open-minded to the idea of a performance scooter. But technically we still don’t have a proper maxi-scooter in India yet, like the ones you see in Europe or Japan. But, these latest offerings from Yamaha and Aprilia are maxi-styled scooters that try to pack the practicality of a maxi-scooter in a slightly small and affordable package.

That said, Yamaha recently launched the Aerox 155, which has broken new ground by offering a powerful liquid-cooled engine and unique form factor never seen before in the Indian scooter space. The Aerox 155 rivals the Aprilia SXR 160, the only other scooter available with a similar form.

Here is a quick look at what these scooters offer and which should you pick

Although they never made many headways before, it seems like they have now learnt things the hard way and have been busy making bikes that speak for themselves and beam technical prowess.

First seen on the EICMA 2016 stage, Aprilia launched the updated models of its naked streetfighter, Shiver and it is heading our way as we speak. This was initially a 750cc motorcycle first launched in 2007, and it struggled because of its unearthing looks which were not any more striking than the competition. But now, it seems that Aprilia have given their magic touch to the 2017 edition, and it looks more so ever lively and strong. This will be the first time the Shiver bandwagon enters the country’s model lineup.

It carries a bigger 900 cc engine, a jump of a lethal 150 cc from the earlier models and they sit just below the Italian brand’s flagship models RSV4 RF and Tuono V4 1100 RF. New electronics, refined mechanics and an excellent chassis structure sees this motorcycle take new levels of riding pleasure and we are here to find out how.

Aprilia is busy with preparing its new 125 cc SR scooter to launch in India soon.

Aprilia is busy with preparing its new 125 cc SR scooter to launch in India soon.

The SR 125 is undergoing homologation tests at the ARAI for approvals.

In 2016, Aprilia did something unbelievable for the Indian two-wheeler market by launching a mass oriented scooter SR 150. This was an ‘out-of-the-blues’ decision for a superbike maker like Aprilia, which is known for motorcycles that cost at least ₹ 20 lakh and upwards, thus targeting itself towards a niche audience. However, with the SR 150, Aprilia has widened its base and has created an all new segment of performance oriented scooters in India for the mass market buyers.

Now, Aprilia wishes to continue the momentum by getting a smaller and less expensive version of the same scooter so that it could be accessible to a lot more customers and eventually increase their market share. Spied at the ARAI (Automotive Research Association of India) in Pune, Aprilia is taking the SR 125 scooter through homologation tests to make it legislation approved so that they can launch the scooter as soon as possible in the market.

And the scooter has been accepted with open hands in India, which is the reason why despite very limited sales network across India, the scooter has churned up some pretty impressive numbers.

To continue the momentum, Aprilia has launched a limited edition version of the scooter titled as SR 150 Race, which comes with some cosmetic as well as mechanical changes over its regular version. Here’s is a comprehensive review of the all new Aprilia SR 150 Race:-

Piaggio Vespa SXL 150 vs Aprilia SR 150

Piaggio Vespa SXL 150 vs Aprilia SR 150

What happens when scooters enter the serious territories.

The word ‘scooter’ was once a synonym for one cluttery low power thing that had two wheels and a handlebar. A device that to this day is frowned upon in the motorcycle community and blaming it for taking away the ‘biking experience’.

The only thing making it tick and stay is its ease of riding around the urban chaos and for people for whom shifting a gear is a daunting task to undertake. See the pun there? It’s there on purpose.

However, things started to change in 2016. It saw the entry of two 150cc Italian scooters which take the two-wheel game to a whole new level. They were onto mucking about the boring geared entry level motorcycles in full zest, style and a mountain full of panache.

Piaggio introduced the decade’s first 150 cc scooter with the Vespa SXL 150 and set the ball rolling. Then came a machine from the same bloodline, but with racing written all over it, the Aprilia SR 150. Both scooters share the same capacity engine and this is where the similarities end. The rest of is chalk and cheese.
