Honda entered the Indian market in 2001 with two scooters - a segment which was believed to be taking its last breath at the time of their arrival. Against all the odds, both the scooters - Activa and Dio - went on churning a large number of volumes for their parent company, which went on to become the second largest two wheeler manufacturer in the Indian market.

While the Activa was meant for the daily masses, the Dio took to the young street crowd. Marketed as the Moto Scooter, Dio was the favourites amongst the young generation because of its stylish lines and trendy looks. The scooter instantly hit the sweet spots of the hearts of all those wishful riders, who wanted to have a two-wheeler but found the motorcycles a bit intimidating. Although it shared the same 110cc engine as the Activa, it felt peppier due to the lightweight fibreglass body panels.

Like the Activa, the Dio too has withstood the tide of time. It received a major overhaul from its first generation in 2012 which amplified its exuberant appeal even more. Now, for 2017, the scooter receives a mild update which will see BS-IV compliancy and Automatic Headlight On along with cosmetic changes. Will the new Dio continue to pluck the strings of hearts of its targeted audience? Here’s a quick overview of the scooter.

When BMW Motorrad joined hands with TVS Motorcycles in 2013, we knew we were in for some special treat. And guess what? It’s time to taste the sweet.

BMW had a sub 500cc model in the works for quite some time which they intended it to cater to the global market. Unveiled at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo, BMW surprised us with this G310R and created a buzz across the riding community with the entry-level naked roadster.

Although it is the smallest bike from BMW, when it comes to performance, it is anything but small. Perfect for a handful of folks new to motorcycles, it is a rocket trainer for the experienced purists and is sure hell lot of fun for everyone riding on this machine. The combination of being lightweight and having a real powerhouse has always won the wars for every manufacturer, and this is no exception.

TVS Motor Company is the third largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India, and the Apache has been the company’s flagship since its launch in 2006. The “Racing Throttle Response" was the brand’s foray into the naked sports segment which, similar to the Pulsars, is gaining a lot of momentum into increasing the sub- brand’s product portfolio.

An Italian artist who goes by the name Oberdan Bezzi, also famously called as OBIBOI, has sketched some impressive looking concepts which might be expected from the TVS Apache stable in the future. They include ten different versions of the same bike, and all of them are running on 180cc and 310cc engines.

When the best of two worlds meet, something spectacular is always bound to happen. And this is what the Yamaha XSR900 Abarth all about. The child of the Japanese Blue team and the Italian powerhouse has surfaced, and it looks absolutely stunning.

Abarth, an Italian tuning brand that turns normal family Fiat cars into their sporty mad-runner nemesis has for the first time tried their hand on motorbikes, thanks to the firm’s association with Yamaha’s MotoGP team. They have collaborated with Yamaha to produce for 2017 a limited-edition "Sport Heritage café racer special" based on Yamaha’s XSR900 847 cc inline-triple neo-retro motorcycle.

It is a lightweight, high-performance retro special whose authentic café racer design reflects the true spirit of the motorcycles in the 60’s era. But make no mistake, it is very much futuristic. This is the perfect blend of ultra-cool retro style with the grunt of a sports racer. And only a limited number of 695 will hit the streets.

The craze of the mid-weight naked is becoming more and more alive in the Indian subcontinent, and Harley-Davidson is looking at getting a bigger piece of this market segment too. To try out their luck, the iconic American brand has launched the third member of its Street family. It has more aggressive styling and improved handling above all of the Streets.

That is the all new Harley-Davidson Street Rod. A little sparse, a little spare, and an exercise in understatement. The most sport-oriented version of the Street series offering an alternative to more conventional cruiser variants. This young generation of a machine is a serious effort to reach customers outside the likes of the classic Harley Davidsons’. Always something up their sleeves.

Back in 2006, Harley had their most sporting motorcycle ever sold called as VRSCR Street Rod (V-Twin Racing Street Custom). Bringing back this name from the dead, Harley has pimped up their street 750 and essentially made a hot-rodded machine out of it. And we are here to get an in-depth overview of this demon here:

For the entry level performance oriented motorcycle enthusiasts, the KTM Duke 200 has been nothing short of a dream come true, for the motorcycle offers a perfect blend of performance and features at a price which makes it a true value for money motorcycle. At a price where others are offering motorcycles which are slightly dated and lesser equipped, this offering from KTM has created some great benchmarks which are tall and difficult enough to conquer.

In a very short span of time, KTM has created a reputation of being the most serious player in the performance-oriented segment of the Indian motorcycling scenario. It is playing a key role in the tremendous growth of motorcycles which are high on performance and are becoming the most obvious choices for those who are planning to upgrade from their 150cc-200cc motorcycles.

For 2017, KTM has refurbished its lineup of motorcycles for India. While the Duke 390 has received a much comprehensive facelift and the Duke 250 too making its way for the first time in India, KTM has decided to keep the Duke 200 alive in its portfolio for India, with carrying some minute but noticeable changes. Here’s our comprehensive review of the refurbished KTM Duke 200:-

After commencing its streak of success with its scooter duo of Activa and Dio, Honda expanded its scooter portfolio for the Indian two-wheeler market by introducing its full-size 110cc scooter, Aviator. Targeted at a more niche audience, the Honda Aviator opened up an all new segment of premium 110cc scooters, which was totally absent before its advent.

As the entire nation’s manufacturers are busy updating their models to run on BS-IV engines, the Japanese Red are also doing the same and are completely flipping their BS-III models to BS-IV. This leads us to look into the Honda Aviator update that is now BS-IV compliant and is AHO enabled.

After updating their Unicorn 160 and Shine models with these features with their CB Hornet already running the upgraded motor, it was time for the scooters to taste the new smell. Starting with launching the new Activa 125, it was the brand’s stylish automatic scooter, the Aviator.

India got the first Duke 200 in 2013, and since then there has been no turning back for the Austrian Orange. Releasing the 390, they had completed the goal of leading the boards of the segment. But, looks like KTM had other things in mind for us.

Now in 2017 came a surprise from KTM when they launched the Duke 250 along with their updated 200 and the new phenomena called the 390 Duke. Although KTM had once rubbished news about the brand planning to get the Duke 250 to India, this launch has been a wild card. Meant only for Indonesia and Thailand, the 250 makes a scene on Indian roads too.

The battle of the new quarter-litre nakeds. KTM Duke 250 vs Yamaha FZ25

A match between the Austrian Orange and the Japanese Blue team was never on the cards. But with KTM launching the surprise wildcard Duke 250, the entire notion has changed.

It all started when Yamaha India launched the naked version of their quarter-litre Fazer motorcycle last month. Doing so, they have officially entered the segment of quarter-litres in India, surpassing the Yamaha R15.

Then came a surprise from KTM when they launched the Duke 250. Another naked that sits between the 200 and the mighty 390 Duke. Although KTM had once rubbished news about the brand planning to get the Duke 250 to India, this launch has been a wild card. Meant only for Indonesia and Thailand, the 250 makes a scene on Indian roads too.

This, folks, gives us the official rivalry of the segment that starts to take the business seriously. Although both the bikes are made for different purposes, they run similar capacity engines, thereby pitting them against each other in a bitter rivalry that can take the other down not to be able to rise again. Read below and catch the action.

Not all debuts are sure shot hits – ask Suzuki. When the Japanese manufacturer made its entry on its own almost a decade ago, it didn’t have a start as good as expected. Except for the 125cc scooter Access, no other product from Suzuki in India could shake up the already established models in their respective segments.

And this continued for almost five years, till Suzuki launched the very promising 155cc motorcycle, the Gixxer. Considering the last flops which included all of its motorcycles, including its very first 150cc bike, the GS 150R, Suzuki naturally had high hopes attached with the Gixxer. And as expected, the Gixxer became the very first hit from Suzuki in the mass market segment. With this, Suzuki too started showing signs of becoming a settled player like its Japanese rivals in India, Honda and Yamaha.

In 2016, Suzuki introduced a couple of changes to the Gixxer to counter the onslaught brought by Honda in the form of CB Hornet 160R, and now to make it even more upmarket than before, Suzuki has freshened up the Gixxer even more with a couple of new changes for 2017 model. Let’s take a look on what all changes Suzuki has carried out for the Gixxer:-

In the past fifteen years, the ‘Pulsar’ nameplate has become one of the most versatile brands in the field of motorcycles. The name has spawned a variety of bikes, ranging from 135cc to 200cc naked streetfighters, a 220cc semi-faired sports tourer and recently, a 200cc fully faired supersport motorcycle. Talking about the current range, it was the Pulsar NS 200 which turned out to be the model which opened up doors for an all new generation platform, engineering and design philosophy. It was this bike that came with new underpinnings rather than being based on the first generation Pulsar 150, upon which all the other Pulsar models were built before its arrival.

After the arrival of the Pulsar NS 200 on the block, Bajaj came up with few more all new generation offerings, which included Pulsar RS 200, Pulsar AS 200 and Pulsar AS 150. Now, to make its range even more elaborated, Bajaj has added one more version of the Pulsar in the form of Pulsar NS 150. Now, the Pulsar NS 150 is to Pulsar AS 150, what the Pulsar NS 200 is to Pulsar AS 200, and by that we mean to say, that it is, more or less, a naked version of the already existing Pulsar NS 150, which is already selling in good numbers for Bajaj in India. The model has already gone on sale in some of the international markets, with an Indian launch scheduled this year. Here’s our comprehensive review of the all new Pulsar NS 150:-

In 2015, Bajaj Auto launched the first of a new-generation design philosophy in the form of the NS 200, acronym for ’naked sport’. A streetfighter that was later discontinued for not being able to be compliant to the emission norms for some, gearbox issues for others and few say for braking judders. Whatever they were, Bajaj took it off the shelves.

The bike is making a grand comeback in 2017, and we couldn’t have been more excited with Bajaj’s attempt to get back in the streetfighter segment, giving the competition a run for their money. The new edition will see an engine that is BS IV compliant and carries a bunch of cosmetic changes and a couple of mechanical upgrades.

Bajaj calls it the Pulsar 200 NS 2017 Laser Edged edition, and it is all set to take performance biking to a new state of adrenaline. Bajaj termed it as “an adrenaline pumping beast” and we are here to find out why.

Yamaha India has officially taken the wraps off the FZ25 in New Delhi and doing so, they have now officially entered the quarter-litre naked motorcycle segment in the country. This is Japanese’s answer to the TVS Apache RTR 200 4V, the KTM Duke 200 and the Pulsar 200 range of motorcycles and sits neatly in between its siblings, the YZF-R15 and the YZF R3.

Launched in 2008, Yamaha’s FZ series of motorcycles had created a new meaning to the streetfighter nemesis. The DNA embedded had street characteristics that made the FZ the number one in the segment pretty fast. The engineers at Yamaha had a new challenge ahead of them: to create the new generation of street rumblers with a bigger engine and better dynamics. This led to the birth of the FZ25 and here is our attempt to declassify it.

We all know that Ducati is one such motorcycle maker which makes machines straight from the heart. Each and every motorcycle in the stable of Ducati speaks of some purpose which is beautifully blended with the pinch of hardcore passion. One such revolutionary step was taken by Ducati when it first previewed the Multistrada in front of the world. Out of all the motorcycles from Ducati, the Multistrada proved out to be the most practical motorcycle which still doesn’t miss out on the specific Ducati principles.

However, the current generation Multistrada 1200 is a bit intimidating and out-of-reach for a majority of buyers, due to its big 1200cc engine and large dimensions, especially for riders who are new to the big bike world. It seems that Ducati has understood this fact, which is why it has come up with the all-new Multistrada 950, the all-new model in the family of adventure motorcycles from Ducati.

Introduced as an entry level adventure motorcycle from Ducati, the Multistrada 950 is the most affordable and smallest motorcycle in Multistrada family, which is aimed at those riders who are new to two wheeler adventure motoring. Finally, it is here folks. Giving an end to all the renderings, spy shots and speculations, Yamaha launched the latest edition of the famed R15 globally in Indonesia and called it the 2017 Yamaha YZF-R15 V 3.0.

The launch happened at the Sentul Circuit and the bike was revealed amidst the brand’s WSBK 9-time world champion Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales and the CEO Yamaha Motor Corp Japan, Yanagi.

When the YZF - R15 rolled in 2008, Yamaha gathered enough success as it managed to capture the market leader boards. It gave us a product that was like a gateway for riders to get into the motorsport arena with this fully faired motorcycle having a powerful 150 cc mill. A lot of young riders opted for this superbike looker having a decent engine with high levels of refinement Yamaha is known for.

It received a facelift in 2011 and the R15 V2.0 received a lot of pomp and fair due to its striking design which now looked even sharper with very acute angles from every corner of the motorcycle. Off late, the R15 lost its lustre because of the insane amount of competition but that is about to change.

Some, including myself, were not very impressed with the V2.0. Yamaha somehow managed to screw up the maturity with regards to visuals on the V2.0 to make it look more toy-like. Luckily, the launch has the answer and we couldn’t have been much happier.

There is hardly any fault regarding the overall packaging of KTM with their RC and its approach towards performance-oriented segments of motorcycles. But, KTM believes in remaining at the top of the podium. Which is why KTM has given their RC series yet another update for 2017, which now has better visual cues and better mechanical equipment, thus making it compliant to Euro-4 and BS-IV norms.

The brand launched the RC editions of the Duke series in 2014 and gave it full fairings and different riding dynamics to their Duke counterparts. It handled much sharper and gave the rider better confidence due to the more sporty riding position than the upright in the Duke.

KTM is having a ball in the Indian two-wheeler industry with all its products smashing the competition right out of the ballpark. They have been the epitome of thrill and fun being experienced on two wheels, especially for the young riders entering the arena.
