Volvo S90 will launch in India in September, 2016
Volvo might not be as popular in India as its German rivals are. But the Swedish auto manufacturer is becoming quite a known brand in the country in recent times. Few months back the company launched the XC90 premium SUV in India, which is the flagship SUV of the brand. Now the automaker is all set to launch its flagship sedan in the country. Expected to be launched in September, 2016 the Volvo S90 comes in two different variants, D4 and D5. Both the variants will be powered by a same engine, in different tunes albeit. Once launched, it will directly compete against the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and very popular Mercedes Benz E Class in India.
The Swedish automaker has just commenced the pre launch booking process for the upcoming S90 luxury sedan. Here we will take a look at the facts and figures of the Volvo S90 sedan.
Volvo has introduced the S90 sedan recently which actually will replace their existing S80 sedan. The S90 sedan will take on the likes of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, BMW 5 Series and the Audi A6 in both International as well as Indian market.
Recently we also noticed that Volvo actually has also showcased the S90 sedan in the Indian website as well which actually hints that Volvo might have plans for launching this sedan in the Indian market. Now talking about this newly introduced sedan let us inform you that it is actually based on the Swedish automakers new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) which actually also underpins the XC90 SUV.
As far as the new S90 sedan is concerned it gets new T shaped DRL lamps integrated inside the new headlamp units which will actually remind you of the XC90. Apart from the headlamps the new S90 also gets vertical slat grille towards the front. Just like the exterior the interior too gets all the bells and whistles as well, to begin let’s just say that it gets driver oriented cockpit. The dashboard and the center console are actually angled towards the driver. The dashboard gets a large toucshcreen display which gets integrated along with Apple CarPlay and Android connectivity. If you take a closer look you will find that all these look identical to that of the XC90’s. The new platform also means that the S90 will be more spacious than the S80 sedan.
Volvo S90 was first introduced in the Swedish auto maker’s lineup in 1996, as a renamed version of 960 mid size sedan for certain markets. Later, when the Swedish luxury auto maker decided to discontinue the 900 Series, the present day S80 replaced the S90, which has always been one of the top range luxury sedans from the Scandinavian company. Besides being one of the top ranging premium sedans of all time, S90 has been important for being the last rear wheel drive car from Volvo. As we are nearing the end of 2015, Volvo is again set to bring the S90 premium sedan, which is a redesigned and upmarket model.
Apart from replacing the S80, the new S90 will be distinguished with its new fresh design, and all the latest technologies and luxurious comfort on offer. The new generation S90 will be powered by both petrol and diesel engines, while there will be a hybrid powertrain on offer as well. Volvo has already unveiled the car officially, and it will hit the Indian shores in a few months, sometime around mid 2016, or early 2017. It would have been great if Volvo showcased this gorgeous model at the upcoming 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, but unfortunately the Swedish marquee will skip the biennial event this time.
