Volvo today has finally launched the much anticipated S90 luxury sedan in India. The car was first showcased at the 2016 NAIAS in January. The Swedish automaker’s flagship offering has been priced at INR. from INR 53.5 lakh, (ex-showroom Mumbai).
The S90 is a fully loaded sedan which not only looks futuristic but also gets all the bells and whistles inside. Recently Volvo unveiled two new variants of the S90 including the long wheelbase version of the S90 and the S90 Excellence. The S90 Excellence is targeted mainly towards the high end sedan market of the World. Thee sedan will first make its official appearance at the Guangzhou Motor Show.
The interiors are definitely the main highlights of this SUV
Volvo has launched the top end XC90 T8 Excellence SUV in India today. The high end hybrid vehicle is priced at INR. 1.25 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi) and will be sold in the Indian market via the CBU unit.
As far as the styling is concerned the top end variant does not look different than the other XC90 variants on offer. However the few changes comes in the form of V and C pillars finished in Chrome, while the lower door section also gets chrome moldings as well. Apart from all that the T8 variant also features 21 inch alloy wheels.
Volvo has gone a step further to make the top end variant of their flagship SUV offering stand out amongst the other luxury SUV’s on offer. The XC90 T8 Excellence variant also gets an ambient lighting system and illuminated storage spaces inside.
Volvo S90 will launch in India in September, 2016
Volvo might not be as popular in India as its German rivals are. But the Swedish auto manufacturer is becoming quite a known brand in the country in recent times. Few months back the company launched the XC90 premium SUV in India, which is the flagship SUV of the brand. Now the automaker is all set to launch its flagship sedan in the country. Expected to be launched in September, 2016 the Volvo S90 comes in two different variants, D4 and D5. Both the variants will be powered by a same engine, in different tunes albeit. Once launched, it will directly compete against the Audi A6, BMW 5 Series and very popular Mercedes Benz E Class in India.
The Swedish automaker has just commenced the pre launch booking process for the upcoming S90 luxury sedan. Here we will take a look at the facts and figures of the Volvo S90 sedan.
The V40 ’s character highlighted in the right manner
Volvo recently introduced the updated Volvo V40 to the world and although it has received subtle updates but that actually has helped the small hatchback to get a new character. The V40 as you all know by now underpins the global C platform which was developed for small cars. Although this car has been developed to compete with the other smaller cars from premium manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes and Audi but still it has a long way to go when we talk about the sales figures.
Whatever may be the case Volvo has left no stones unturned to make their updated hatchback look bolder and muscular. On the exterior the V40 gets the Thor’s hammer lamps which are mostly seen on bigger Volvo cars like the XC90 and the recently launched S90. Volvo has also introduced new colors as well for its exterior. While under the hood there are no noticeable changes which are bit disappointing. So the Volvo V40 is still available in the Indian market with the 2.0 Liter D4 diesel unit makes about 190 Hp of peak power at 4250 rpm and 400 Nm of torque in between 1750 to 2500 rpm, the engine is paired to an automatic gearbox.
Coming to the new commercial which looks equally gorgeous as the new hatchback, in this video you can watch a beautifully lit city at night and then the V40 hatchback makes an entrance. The commercial also highlights the new features of the hatchback beautifully. Watch the commercial and I am sure you will also love the background music too..
The new concept car looks practical and will help Volvo extend their product portfolio
If we look at the present automotive scenario then you have to admit that the compact and small cars are ruling the market. Even the premium manufacturers like Mercedes, BMW and Audi are concentrating on smaller cars to pick up their sales volume. Volvo has also been trying hard to enter the mass market area and even introduced the Volvo V40 Cross Country alongside the V40 hatchback but still they struggled to keep up with the German rivals.
Recently they have introduced two new concepts called the ‘Volvo Concept 40.1’ which looks like a crossover while the second one is called the ‘Volvo Concept 40.2’ which looks like a saloon. Now keeping in mind the naming it seems the Crossover will be their first attempt at the XC40 Crossover whiles the second ‘Concept 40.2’ will most probably be the next generation of their existing S40 sedan.
Volvo was working on a completely new platform and later they developed the all new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) platform which was built to support smaller or compact cars. The two new concepts underpin the same recently developed platforms which will help Volvo to further penetrate into a larger marker and they can do it by expanding their product portfolio.
Today we will be talking about both the new concepts that Volvo took the covers off. They seem to borrow Volvo’s new design language which was seen in some of their latest products including the XC90 SUV and the S90.

The S60 Polestar surely is one fast car which can also perform on track equally well
Volvo Polestar is one such brand who has been transforming the standard Volvo cars into mean machines and now in this video you can watch the 2016 S60 in action on a track.
There is no doubt in the fact that the S60 Polestar cars are known for their unique blue paint and those signature alloy wheels and I am sure this car is also not so different either. Under the hood the V60 Polestar is powered by 3.0 Litre 6 cylinder turbocharged engine, which is actually capable of producing an impressive 350 Hp of peak power at 5250 rpm and 500 Nm of torque in between 3000-4750 rpm. The engine helps the car to reach 01-00 km/h mark in 4.9 seconds while it has a top spped of 250 km/h mark.
In this video you can watch the car being tested on track and the four wheel drive surely responds well but still is it the perfect car or not and does it have what it needs to compete with some other well known cars like Mercedes AMG’s and BMW M models is what you will find out in this video.
Watch as they are trying to push the car to its limit on the track.
It soaks power from other cars
Volvo XC90 is the flagship SUV of the Swedish automaker which not only offers premium luxury and comfort to the occupants, but it also offers dynamic safety features. Although in India Volvo is not a very popular brand, but many people who love luxury and comfort with safety prefer the brand.
Next generation Volvo XC90 was launched in India few months ago, and it directly competes against the Audi Q7, which is also another dynamic vehicle launched in India recently. The XC90 was first introduced to the Swedish automaker’s lineup in 2002. It was based on the P2 platform, and later when Volvo launched the second generation XC90 in 2014, it came based on SPA platform.
The second generation Volvo XC90 gets a design which reflects power, style and masculinity. The XC90 T8 on the other hand is also capacitated with a hybrid powertrain. No more haters for hybrids. Uniquely it is the first car in the world, which can get power from other cars without arousing any suspicion.

The S60 Polestar got some serious amount of power under its hood
Volvo not only focuses on safety of the passengers but also makes sure that they get to experience the wild side of the brand as well. The Polestar is the performance brand of Volvo and takes Volvo’s stock cars and adds their magic touch to bring out their wild side. In short Polestar performs the same job that AMG does for Mercedes or the M brand for BMW. Although Polestars cars are not popular in the Indian market or you can say Volvo is hesitating to introduce their performance brand in India but keeping the Indian auto market in mind they won’t be taking long to introduce the Polestar brand in India soon.
Now recently Volvo has introduced the updated version of their popular S60 and V60 Polestar in the International market. The standard S60 sedan is already available for sale in the Indian market and although this Swedish car brand is not so popular like the other German car brands but they now started concentrating on the Indian market as well and perhaps that is also the reason they now have decided to launch the all new S90 sedan in India soon.
But keeping all that aside and concentrating only on the updated S60 Polestar, we can assure you that the new performance oriented sedan is quick and can sprint from 0-100km/h mark in just 4.7 seconds while the overall power output has also been hiked.

The same S60 sedan with occasional offroading skills
We are all familiar with the Crossover hatchback and perhaps have plenty of them flooding the Indian market but the idea of a sedan based Crossover is totally new for everybody. One such manufacturer who has been known to experiment a lot has surely surprised us all when they showcased a Cross Country version of their S60 sedan at the 2015 Geneva Auto show.
Volvo introduced the Cross Country brand back in the year 1997 and the first product that came out from the brand was the V70 Cross Country, later Volvo also launched some beefed up variants of the V40, V60 and the V70 which helped Volvo expand their Cross Country lineup further. Coming to the S60 Cross Country, this four door soft roader has an increased ride height and some added lower body cladding to gives it the jacked up appearance. The S60 Cross Country even has been fitted with high profile tyres which gives this sedan a smooth ride when the terrain is not particularly friendly.
According to the Volvo officials their latest invention even has “a completely unique expression of adventure and all-road readiness in a distinctly sporty and stylish package,” Volvo already launched their V40 Cross Country in the Indian market which is a hatchback possessing a Crossover stance and although it was not able to pull the crowd like its rival the BMW X1 but still it is one worthy and capable vehicle. On the other hand the new S60 Cross Country surely has opened an entire new side in the automotive world and also will motivate other auto brands to experiment with their products and come up with some new ideas in the near future.
The S60 Cross Country will be available with both diesel and petrol drivetrains and you can find every detail once you go through the article.

The luxury sedan with off-roading capability debuted at Detroit Motor Show
Volvo has launched the S60 Cross Country in India today. This unique one of a kind ‘Crossover sedan’ has been priced at INR. 38.9 lakh(ex-showroom, Mumbai).
The S60 Cross Country made its debut at the Detroit Motor in 2015, and this is one unique Cross breed between rugged SUV and a sedan. The main purpose behind building the S60 Cross Country was that it will provide all the comfort and luxury of a sedan but you can even use this car for occasional off roading as well. The Cross Country variant gets added body claddings towards the lower half of the car which actually helped it to add some muscular stance to the cars exterior. Apart from all that the ground clearance of the sedan has also been raised by almost 65 mm from the standard S60 sedan and thus the S60 Cross Country ground clearance now stands at 201 mm which is pretty impressive for a sedan.
