2016 Volkswagen Ameo
Volkswagen Ameo is the first India specific compact sedan from the German auto manufacturer
It has been the talk of the town for quite some time that, Volkswagen is all set to launch their first compact sedan in Indian market. As the compact sedan is one of the most happening segments of Indian automobile market, the most popular German brand in India cannot afford to keep itself away from the race. Therefore Volkswagen is bringing their compact sedan in the fray, which will be christened as the Volkswagen Ameo, as the German automaker has confirmed.
The name “Ameo” is derived from the Latin word “Amo”, which means “I love”. Volkswagen claims, it will be a game changer in the Indian market and this car will come with a package of best in class safety features great build quality and of course a great driving experience. The sub four metre sedan is manufactured on the VW Polo platform. The German automaker has been testing the car at the Chakan plant since long time. Now they have also confirmed that the Volkswagen Ameo will be showcased at the upcoming 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, the production will be started around middle of the 2016 although. The Volkswagen Ameo sports a front grille like the Volkswagen Vento, it adorns 3 chrome slats and the air intake at the lower bumper sports sharp slats. The headlamp clusters are also sharp shaped, while the fog lamps at both sides of the lower bumper are also similar. The front bumper protruding from under the camouflaging cover suggests that it would come beefy looking. We hope the Ameo would get some chrome garnishing at the front profile as a styling touch.
The side profile was relatively clearly visible than the front and rear profile. There are not much of character lines visible, while the Vento sports several sharp and deep character lines running through the body. There is a subtle crease running parallel with the greenhouse area, while at the lower part another subtle crease is visible. The pillars are body coloured, while the roof line blends perfectly at the rear. A rooftop antenna is also visible.
Being a sub compact sedan this car clearly sports a small tail section. Volkswagen has just released an image of the tail lamp with the badge visible. The tail lamp looks sharp and the cuts and creases can also be seen surrounding it, which look pretty sharp.
Volkswagen claims the design language of Ameo portrays general bursts of emotion, while the dynamic design was conceptualized to impress everyone. They expect this car will be a game changer in the highly competitive Indian market. The car looks like VW Polo from front and VW Vento from rear, although the side profile tells the tale. The boot seems to come with a short length. The car is built on PQ24 platform of the Polo and Vento.
There are no interior spy shots available at the moment. But, Volkswagen would equip it with the usual premium quality features. It is sure, that despite being a compact sedan it won’t be the cheapest model in the segment. Therefore we can expect this car to come equipped with features like chrome garnishing, multi-function steering wheel, 2 din touch screen infotainment panel, digital display at the driver information panel, at least dual frontal airbags etc. We can also expect the car to offer well amount of comfort and space to the occupants inside the cabin. The interior gets an armrest, auto dimming rear view mirror etc. It will also get a first in class rain sensing wiper.
Volkswagen offers their compact and sub compact cars with TSI petrol engine, which is powerful, fuel saver and good at performance. The Ameo comes with a 1.2 litre MPI petrol engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox, delivering 74 bhp peak power and 110 Nm peak torque. The diesel variant on the other hand gets a 1.5 litre unit which also comes paired with a 5 speed manual transmission to kicks out 110 bhp peak power and 230 Nm peak torque. The diesel engine has been poaired to a 5 speed manual transmission but also gets an optional 7 speed DSG automatic transmission as well.
