the second generation Innova gets shaper exterior design and premium cabin

The Toyota Innova surely set a new standard in the MPV market of India, this vehicle also replaced the Toyota Qualis which itself was also a very successful product from the Japanese automaker and known for its capability of transporting large family from one place to another comfortably. The Toyota Innova replaced the Toyota Qualis and instantly became a hit and popular for its spacious and quality interior.

Things were going well for this people mover until recently the MPV market took a whole new turn after Maruti Suzuki entered the market with their new offering called Ertiga in 2012, while Honda later introduced the Mobilio. Although there are few other offerings from Chevrolet and Nissan but honestly they are not as popular compared to the above mentioned names. The best things about the new generation MUV’s are that they are the cheaper alternative to the ageing and comparatively expensive Innova which existed in the market for a long time.

Now that its backdated styling has taken its toll in its sales figures Toyota decided that this was the best time to introduce the next generation people mover to the scene.

The new generation Innova’s images and details surfaced online recently when Toyota unveiled the car in Indonesia and later launched it there. Now that almost all the information and details are available we have decided to give you the first impression of this people mover.

To begin with let us first inform you that the new generation Innova has been built on a completely new ladder frame platform which also supports the new generation Fortuner and Hilux Revo. As far its drivetrains are concerned the new Innova ditches its KD engines and has gone for downsized GD engines which are actually more powerful as well as fuel efficient at the same time.

At the recently concluded Auto Expo 2016, Toyota showcased the new Innova christened as Innova Crysta. The car looked identical to the one we have seen in the Indonesian website. The Crysta badging is probably an effort to give the new Innova a more distinguished identity. The new generation Innova looks sharp and upmarket, way more stylish than the previous model and it gets plenty of new updates as well

Update 08.08.2016:- Toyota introduced the Petrol variant of the Innova Crysta in India. The Innova Crysta petrol is available with three trims including the GX, VX and the top end Z trim. The top end Z trim is available only with automatic transmission.

Have You Ever Seen A Toyota Innova Performing Reverse Drift and Burn Out: Video

Have You Ever Seen A Toyota Innova Performing Reverse Drift and Burn Out: Video

The driver pulls of the first stunt perfectly but watch what happens next

Toyota Innova is a household name and its primary purpose, or it’s popular because it can carry almost 7 to 8 passengers from one place to another. In other words, it’s basically a people mover. The Innova is naturally a people mover, and thus it is a bulky and heavy vehicle. Who would have thought of even performing some stunts like reverse drifting and burnout with this machine? But here in this video, you will actually be surprised when you will watch a Toyota Innova doing all sort of things which anyone of us ever expected from a car of this size.

Here in this video, you can watch some members of the Garage Autowerks performing reverse drift and burn-out on this White Innova. As you can watch the driver manages to perform the reverse drift correctly on the tarmac and then tries to do a burnout. The Innova like you all know by now is a rear wheel drive vehicle and thus he presses firmly onto the front brakes and performs a burnout with the people movers rear wheels.

From the styling it is quite clear that this is the old generation Innova and thus is powered most probably by the 2.5 litre, inline4, turbocharger diesel engine displacing 2494 cc produces about 102 Ps of peak power at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm of torque in between 1400-3400 rpm.

This is an absolute insane video and you will actually have to watch the whole video to believe with your own eyes.

There is no doubt in the fact that the Innova MPV has always been one important product for Toyota in India. The previous generation people mover was a hit amongst the people and so is the new generation which was first showcased infront of the Indian public at the 2016 Auto expo. Quite honestly the Innova is the only car after Fortuner which has helped Toyota to cement its place in the Indian market.

The new generation Innova which was launched in the Indian market dubbed as the Innova Crysta was launched with two diesel engine options only but now after few months of its launch Toyota has decided to introduce the petrol variant as well. The petrol variant of the MPV was recently spotted courtesy Gaadiwaadi. The new Innova Crysta petrol will be powered by 2.7 Litre, four cylinder dual VVT-i motor which will develop around 166 ps of peak power and 245 nm of torque. This new engine will be offered with both six speed manual as well as an automatic transmission at the same time.

The petrol equipped variants will help Toyota to sell the new generation Innova in markets like Delhi and NCR regions where there is a ban on diesel motor above 2.0 Liter. The introduction of petrol engine will help boost the sales of the new Innova even more and that is the reason why Toyota has introduced the new petrol motor sooner than expected.

Expect the manual transmission to be available with GX and VX grades while the automatic petrol variant will be available with top end variants like GX and ZX grades.

Toyota launched the Innova in India around ten years back and it replaced the successful and popular Qualis. Back then, everyone said it was a mistake. Recently in order to attract the attention of the customers Toyota has launched a Limited Edition Innova which comes with interesting new features both in its exterior as well as in its interior, but I am afraid that Toyota has not made any mechanical changes to the engine and thus this Limited Edition Innova is still powered by the existing engine which also powers the standard Innova.

2012 Toyota Innova

2012 Toyota Innova

The Toyota Innova is one of the safest buys in the market and there are no two ways about that. Since its launch in 2005, the Innova’s versatility has been a big hit with Indian families and it remains the preferred choice of MUV offering reliability and great value. Even after the launch of the Mahindra Xylo which was aimed to beat the Innova at its own game, the Innova remains the automatic choice in the people carrier segment. The Innova though had started to show its age and once Toyota launched the facelift version in the Indonesian market where too the Innova is a massive hit, its launch in India was expected to be only a matter of time. Toyota will showcase the facelift Innova at the Auto Expo along with the facelifted Fortuner SUV and we expect deliveries to follow in the first quarter of 2012 . Prices for the current Toyota Innova start form Rs8,60,532 to Rs11,99,441for the petrol and diesel versions, but in all probability the prices will increase marginally.

2005 Toyota Innova

2005 Toyota Innova

Toyota’s best seller in India, the Innova has been around since 2005 and still remains the best selling utility vehicle in its segment

One of my favourite Tata Motors commercial was of the Tata Sierra’s where the Sierra is seen chauffeuring a businessman home and then it goes off road for a mud bath. “It takes the rough with the smooth”, suggested the tagline. Owners would have told you that after it took the rough you had to take it to the workshop. But that’s skipping the point. The advertisement wanted to highlight the versatility of the vehicle. Today the kind of world we live in demands versatility from us in everyday life and multitasking is the need of the hour. The vehicles that we drive also need to be adaptable and it’s here that the utility vehicles make a case for themselves. The Toyota Innova has been the Japanese manufacturer’s flagship brand in India and has been the segment leader since 2005. It’s a versatile, flexible and a multifunctional vehicle. In a nutshell it’s a MUV with a sedan like feel. With prices starting from Rs8,60,532 to Rs12,57,569 for the diesel and Rs9,09,411 to Rs11,99,441 for the petrol, the question is, is the Innova still the best MUV in the market despite competition from Tata and Mahindra?
