2017 Toyota Etios Liva Duel Tone

The hatchback gets plenty of exterior and few interior updates

Toyota Kirloskar Motors introduced the duel tone Etios Liva in India, the hatchback not only gets a duel tone overall design but also class-leading cabin space and safety features.

Toyota made their presence felt in one of the most competitive segments of the Indian market by launching the Etios Liva hatchback back in 2011 just after a year of the launch of the Etios sedan. Toyota extended their Etios family of hatchbacks by introducing the Etios Cross back in the year 2014. Last year Toyota also introduced the Platinum Etios in Indian market which has helped the auto manufacturer to register an overall growth of 7 percent towards the last quarter of 2016.

Compared to some other hatchback of its segment the Etios Liva failed to impress the crowd despite its feature packed interior, abundant safety feature and fuel-efficient drivetrains. Toyota launched the refreshed Etios and Liva hatchback last year and although these are not exactly new generation cars but mid-life refresh they certainly looked sportier and bolder than the older cars.

Coming to the newly introduced Dueltone variant, the hatchback not only gets some cosmetic updates to its exterior but interior as well. With an option of both petrol and diesel drivetrains on offer the Etios Liva Duel tone surely looks like a compact package.

It was Renault who started the trend of Compact SUV by launching the Duster in India then auto manufacturers like Ford, Volkswagen and Mahindra launched their own version of crossover and suddenly this segment became the topic of discussion amongst every Indian buyer and all the products became equally popular. Ford Ecosport or the Renault Duster which was launched not so long ago were quite successful in impressing the people with their rugged look, aggressive pricing and interior space. Let’s be honest here the compact SUV definitely offers more than a standard hatchback.

Toyota To Launch The Etios Cross on 7th May

Toyota Kirloskar Motors unveiled the Etios Cross at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. The Etios Cross was first seen at the Sao Paulo motor show and following which it went on sale in the South American market. That said, Toyota is now gearing up to launch the car in India as well.

The Toyota Etios Cross is based on the Liva hatchback. It is the same quirky-little pseudo-SUV with rather interesting styling upgrades. The lower apron gets large grey plastic cladding all around. The front grille looks more rugged thanks to more grey and silvery bits. Roof rails and skid plates further adds to that outdoorsy look.

Underneath the new design is the same old Toyota Liva that we find here in India and are familiar with. The Etios Cross will ride on 15-inch wheels and will be slightly longer, taller and wider than the standard Liva. Expect the Etios Cross to be available with loads of standard kit for it will also be slightly more expensive than the Liva.

Toyota Will Display The Next Generation Toyota Etios At Auto Expo 2016

Toyota Will Display The Next Generation Toyota Etios At Auto Expo 2016

Etios is the entry level saloon car from Toyota that was launched way back in the year 2011, and since date it has undergone only few minor updates. Now, the company has decided to display the next generation Toyota Etios in the year 2016 and are working on it. The current model did not seem to work out according to their expectation and we blame the styling rather than any other aspect.

According to the sources, we have come to know that the next gen Etios will focus mainly on its design as they consider that design is the sole factor behind the low sales figure of the sedan. For this, the company has decided to style their upcoming sedan taking cues from their new Corolla Altis and we anticipate that it will also display daytime running lamp. However Etios does excel in terms of fuel efficiency, space, durability and thus the future form of Etios will have everything intact but will come with a new cover.

According to the speculations, 2016 Etios will feature a new ‘Top Hat’ which will have nothing in common with the present box-like structure of the saloon. The company is looking for different styles keeping the original platform intact for Etios and its other future cars also. Under the hood, we expect Etios to continue with the current 1.2- and 1.5-litre petrol engines and the 1.4-litre diesel engine. Previous year, Toyota had launched Etios with a minor facelift but it was not enough to impress the buyers in India who are slowly becoming style conscious. It is hoped that the next gen Etios will emerge as a strong contender for its rivals.

Toyota Announces Etios and Etios Liva Xclusive Edition

To celebrate the milestone of selling one lakh examples of the Etios range, Toyota has announced an ’Xclusive’ edition for their Etios sedan and Liva.

The Xclusive Edition mainly focuses on uplifting the dull interior of the standard variant. It comes with a dual-tone cream and beige colored interior rather than the single colored cabin. Other features include Bluetooth-equipped audio system, rear parking sensors, premium seat fabrics and a new chrome cap for the gear knob.

The Xclusive Edition is mainly based on the mid G variant. To differentiate itself from the standard Etios, Toyota has fitted an ’Xclusive’ badge on the boot lid, so that the extra amount you spend on exclusivity can be shown-off to onlookers. The color can be selected from three paint shades which include white, grey and silver.

Toyota only will only sell a thousand Xclusive Edition Etios’. The price for this special edition has not been announced yet, though we expect it to be sold at around Rs 15-20 thousand more than the standard variants.

2012 Toyota Etios Racing car

Toyota’s last F1 effort was a disappointment. A big disappointment. They had the biggest budget after Ferrari but the results were far from what the manufacturer had hoped for. Ralf Schumacher let them down and while Juano Trulli did his bit occasionally, Toyata had to pull the plugs off their F1 project. Their WRC campaign in the 90’s though was far more fruitful with Carlos Sainz winning the championship. Motorsports has been at the very centre of Toyota’s activities despite most people thinking that their cars lack imagination and passion. Toyota Racing Department (TRD) on both occasions prepared their WRC and F1 car and now the legendary TRD brand has made its way in India with the Etios Motor Racing (EMR) Trophy which along with the Volkswagen Polo Cup aims at promoting and identifying talent at the grassroots level in the country. The EMR Championship is set to debut in 2013 and drivers for this racing series would be selected by Toyota who will later train the drivers.

Competition ensures prices are kept down, quality improves and innovations are constant. Manufacturers are perpetually under the pump and need to keep on reinventing themselves. Strange as it may sound, Toyota has had to reinvent itself at the bottom end of the spectrum and produce the cheapest car in its portfolio. 2011 Toyota Etios Liva

2011 Toyota Etios Liva

Toyota has a problem of plenty in India. Such is the demand for their vehicles that their plant cannot keep up with the demand. The Japanese company so far has had success with all its launches except of the Camary, which too sold in decent numbers initially. Earlier this year Toyota launched the made-for-India Etios Liva, which is expected to cash in on the brand image that Toyota enjoys in the country and become a runaway success. Or at least that’s what the company is pinning its hopes on. The Etios Liva though is entering a hotly contested segment and faces competition from its Japanese counterparts and also from European manufacturers. With prices starting form Rs 3.99 - 5.99 lakhs for the petrol variant and Rs 5.54laks for the diesel variant ex-showroom New Delhi, the Etios Liva we predict is going to give Toyota even more production problems.
