2017 Toyota Etios Platinum
An updated Etios sedan with an improved appearance and features
Quite honestly Toyota has not been able to make an impact in the Indian market especially in the compact car segment. Both their offerings includes the Etios compact sedan and the Etios Liva hatchback are not as successful as their rivals. The compact car segment has plenty of competition right now and their rivals are much more feature packed, stylish and economical offerings. The Etios sedan and the Liva hatchback have been here in the Indian market for a long time now and Toyota seriously needs to refresh these products in order to get a stronghold in the B-segment car market. Recently an updated Etios was caught while it was being tested and now its finally launched in our Indian market.
Before the Indian launch took place Toyota also unveiled the updated 2016 Etios sedan the Etios Liva hatchback in Brazil. The new car has also been dubbed as Etios Platinum. The newly launched Etios twins brought along with it plenty of updates on both their exterior as well as interior. Thanks to the new updates the new cars looks more aggressive now and also packs plenty of new updates as well.

The updated Etios facelift sedan definitely brings some air of changes with it. The sedan gets a completely new much more prominent looking V shaped grille towards the front which also gets Black inserts as well chrome touch to it. Compared to the older grille this new redesigned grille looks sleeker and helps in giving this car a fresh new identity. Apart from the new front grille the Etios sedan also gets completely new front bumper as well which has slightly larger air dam and a distinct housing for the fog lamps. This car also got a contrasting black plastic inserts as well. Apart from the front profile the side profile of the sedan almost remains identical to the current Etios. The sad part is while the Etios Liva hatchback facelift gets a new wheel design Toyota has decided to go with the older wheels on this new updated sedan. .
The subtle changes has definitely helped the Etios Platinum compact sedan to get a new lease of life and this will hopefully attract the attention of the buyers until and unless Toyota decides to introduce a new generation car in the near future.
Just like the exterior expect the interior too to get some serious updates as well. The updated interior gets a new duel tone dashboard finished in Ivory and Grey,.while the seats in particular also gets a new fabric upholstery as well. As far as the steering is concerned it remain the same but gets a new leather covering. The Etios Platinum sedan also gets a semi digital combi-meter instrument cluster.
According to Toyota the Etios sedan promises the best in segment interior room for the passengers. It also gets a 2 din music system as well which also gets integrated Bluetooth and USB connectivity. Lastly the rear seats also gets a fordable rear arm rests as well.
There are certainly no changes under the hood. Thus the Etios facelift is still powered by the same 1.5L, 16 V DOHC petrol engine which is capable of producing about 90 ps of peak power at 5600 rpm and 132 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual transmission.
The diesel variant on the other hand gets thew 1.4 Litre, 4 cylinder 8V, SOHC, D 4D unit which churns out about 68 Ps of peak power at 3800 rpm and 170 Nm of torque in between 1800-2400 rpm. Just like the petrol unit this diesel mill too is paired to a 5 speed manual transmission.
What Toyota has really taken care of about the new Etios Platinium sedan is the safety of the passengers. As a result the new Etios packs ninth generation ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) and EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) safety systems across all variants as standard. Furthermore the sedan also gets duel airbags as well.
The petrol variant of the Etios sedan on the other hand is priced in between INR 6.43 lakh to INR 7.83 lakh(ex showroom, Mumbai), while the diesel variants prices ranges from INR. 7.56 lakh to INR 8.96 lakh(ex showroom, Mumbai).
Tata Motors introduced the Zest sedan in the Indian market back in 2014 and it is actually based on the same platform which also underpins the Bolt hatchback. Powering the Zest sedan is the same newly developed Revotron 1.2 L Turbocharged MPFi engine which is capable of producing about 90 Ps of peak power at 5000 rpm and 140 NM of torque between 1750-3500 RPM while the diesel variant is powered by same Qudrajet 1.3-litre Multijet unit which is available in two states of tune which produces about 90 Ps of peak power at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm of peak torque in between 1750 and 3000 rpm while the other produces 73.94 bhp of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 190 Nm of torque between 1,750 3,000 rpm. Both the engines are paired to a 5 speed manual transmission while Tata has already launched the F-Tronic technology-enabled, 5-speed Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
The new subtle updates definitely look interesting and like we already mentioned above and offcourse gives the updated Etios sedan some more time until and unless Toyota decided to introduce the new generation vehicles.
