The Facelift sedan gets few cosmetic updates to its exterior as well as interior

Toyota launched the Corolla Altis Facelift in India yesterday. The Altis is the potential rival to the Octavia and Elantra in India. The Indian spec Corolla Altis resembles a lot to the Thai-spec Corolla.

The Corolla according to Toyota is built on Toyota’s legendary Quality, Durability and Reliability with significantly enhanced quality in every aspect of its design and engineering. This global sedan has been appreciated throughout the world Tokyo, Sydney, Shanghai, Moscow, San Francisco and Rio - de- Janeiro. There is no doubt that this global sedan has made its presence felt across 150 countries across the world and also was able to bring smiles to the faces of over 44 million customers worldwide.

The Corolla Altis Facelift is available in India with both diesel and petrol drivetrains and an option of both manuals as well as an automatic transmission.

The facelift Corolla Altis looks sharper than the pre-facelift variant. The revised front profile now receives new LED headlamps with integrated LED DRL lamps. The front grille has also been changed as well. Towards the lower front profile, the front bumper has also been revised, and it now houses round shaped fog lamps as well. Apart from the new changes to the front, the sedan hasn’t received any significant changes to the side or the rear profile but to further add to the dynamic look of the side profile the facelift Corolla gets new 16-inch alloy wheels. The rear taillamp design also has been slightly updated as well to go with the overall design of the sedan.

Just like the exterior the interior too has received significant updates as well which comes in the form of a new soft touch dashboard which goes well with the overall design of the sedan. The dashboard now also houses a newly designed instrument panel. There is no denying the fact that the Corolla offers one of the most spacious cabins of its segment. The cabin now also gets an additional Flaxen interior colour.

Regarding equipment, the Corolla Altis sedan gets new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink as standard with the petrol variant but is optional on the diesel variant.

There are no changes made under the hood, and thus the Corolla Altis is still offered with the same 1.8-litre Dual VVT-i four-cylinder petrol unit that produces about 103 kW (140 PS) of peak power at 6,400 rpm and 173 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. The engine paired to 6-speed manual transmission and a continuously variable transmission. The diesel variant on the other gets the 1ND – TV 1.4-litre D-4D four-cylinder unit which is capable of producing about 65 kW (88 PS) of peak power at 3,800 rpm and 205 Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 2,800 rpm. A six-speed manual transmission offered as standard with the diesel variant.

Toyota is known worldwide for their safety features across their product range. The Corolla Altis sedan is not so different either the top petrol trim features seven airbags along with ABS, stability control and hill assists. The other petrol trims get five airbags and ABS as standard. The diesel variant, on the other hand, gets 3 airbags as standard across the range.

2016 Hyundai Elantra Exterior

Hyundai recently launched the sixth generation Elantra which received plenty of exterior as well interior upgrades to its name. The sedan gets a 2.0 liter Nu MPI Atkinson 4 cylinder engine that generates about 152 Ps of peak power at 6200 rpm and 19.6 kgm of maximum torque at 4, 000 rpm. The other engine on offer is the 1.6 Litre U2 diesel unit which produces about 128 Ps of peak power at 4000 rpm and 26.5 kgm of torque at 1900-2750 rpm. Both the engines are paired to 6-speed manual transmission as standard while a 6-speed automatic transmission is offered as an option as well.

The Corolla is pricier than its rivals while the petrol variant offers plenty at this price point the diesel unit although is priced higher but gets a lower powered diesel unit while the equipment list is also limited in the diesel variant. The sale of the executive sedan has fallen significantly in the Indian market in the recent years hopefully this new facelift sedan will be able to impress the crowd.
