There is no doubt in the fact that the Tiago is a leap ahead of every other Tata Motors cars we have witnessed so far. Be it quality, features or the styling this little hatchback surely won hearts. At the recent auto show 2016, Tata Motors showcased the Bolt Sport which was actually a more powerful Bolt variant which not only received a new engine but also some exclusive cosmetic upgrades too on its exterior to differentiate it from the regular variant. We all expected that Tata Motors will actually go ahead with the new project to take on some other entry level hot hatchbacks.
However according to the recent reports the Indian auto manufacturer has shelved all their plans of launching the Bolt Sport variant because of its unimpressive sales figures. Tata Motors officials also said that they are not quite happy with the way the Bolt is getting a response in the Indian market but their new product Tiago hatchback comparatively has done pretty good business until now. Since its launch the Tiago hatchback has received more than 40, 000 bookings, there is even a waiting period for this hatchback as well.
So this is actually a good time to cash in the success of the Tiago and introduce a more powerful variant of the hatchback instead. If everything goes according to plan then we can actually watch this car in flesh during this year’s festive season.
Click past jump to know more about the Tata Tiago Sport (Plus)
Until now there have been no images of the upcoming Tiago Plus hatchback but expect it get more aggressive styling to highlights its more powerful engine which will be placed under its hood and also to separate it from the rest of the standard variants already available on sale.
Although we are not too sure how exactly it will look but expect it get some cosmetic upgrades on its exterior which might come in the form of a redesigned more aggressive front bumper with bigger air vents. While towards the side profile the Tiago Plus (Sport) might also feature new set of alloy wheels. Towards the rear to continue the sporty theme the Tiago Plus (Sport) variant might also get a bigger integrated spoiler. Apart from this cosmetic upgrades the Tiago Sport can also get some new enhanced graphics to do justice to the ’Tiago Plus’ nameplate.
Do not expect a huge sea of change inside the cabin of this sportier variant because Tata will surely need to keep the overall pricing down. However what you can expect though is new seats upholstery with the new nameplate logo. Expect all the features of the top end variants of the Tiago hatchback to be made available to the Tiago Plus variant as well.
Nobody until now actually complained about the quality of materials provided with Tata’s new hatchback and thus expect the same quality of materials to be maintained with the soon to be launched more powerful variant as well.
This is definitely the most important part because for those who actually thinks that the upcoming hatchback will only get cosmetic updates on its exterior are actually wrong. Tata besides updating the new hatchbacks exterior also has plans to upgrade the drivetrain as well. According to the recent reports the Tiago Plus (Sport) will get a turbocharged version of the same 1.2 Litre, three cylinder Revotron petrol unit which actually powers the standard Tiago hatchback. While the engine is able to churn out 85 Ps of peak power and 114 Nm of torque on the standard variant the inclusion of a new turbocharger will help it extract atleast 120+ Ps of peak power from the same unit.
Expect the engine to be paired to the same 5 speed manual gearbox which will send power to the front wheels.
As far as the ride and handling is concerned expect the Tiago Plus hatchback to continue with the same suspension setup but it will be tuned for a slightly stiffer setup for better handling.
Now this will actually be a hot hatchback which wiull be priced aggressively so don’t expect Tata to actually provide rear disc brake option for the sportier variant of the hatchback and thus the braking duties will be carried on by the same duel disc brakes towards the front and drum brakes towards the rear.
The Tiago Plus will most probably get all the safety features available on the top end trim of the Tiago hatchback and thus you can expect dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and also corner stability control as well on the upcoming hatchback.
The reports states that Tata wants to actually price their new hatchback quite aggressively and perhaps also want to price it below the soon to be launched Maruti Baleno RS which will be its biggest rivals in the market.
If everything goes according to plan expect the new Tiago Plus hatchback to be priced under INR. 8 Lakhs rupees.
Maruti is also all set to introduce the Baleno RS in India which is a hot hatchback based on their Baleno hatch. The Baleno RS when launched in India will be powered by a 1.0 Litre Boosterjet petrol engine which is expected to produce about 110 Hp of peak power and 170 Nm of torque. The engine will be paired to 5 speed manual or a six speed automatic gearbox.
The Tiago Plus is definitely a wothy product which will grace the Indian roads during the month of November 2016. For those who are looking for a more powerful yet zippy car which they can use for their daily commute within the city traffic and also during weekend getaways can always opt for the more powerful Tiago Plus hatch. It will obviously get all the goodies that Tata Motors offers on the top end variant of the Tiago including all the safety features as well. Moreover it will definitely look equally impressive at the same time which will attract younger buyers.
