When Tata Motors showcased the Tata Tiago at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, the small sporty looking hatchback garnered pretty much interest among the visitors. Meanwhile, there was a blue heavily accessorized version of the Tiago, which garnered more appreciation and interest than the regular model. Christened as the Tata Tiago Aktiv the accessorized Tiago is available from the Tata Motors personalization studio until now, but the Indian auto manufacturer is planning to introduce a complete production model of the Tata Tiago Aktiv to the Indian market, which is expected to hit the market sometime around October this year during the festive season.
Although with the accessories, Tata Tiago Aktiv looks a bit like a hatchback crossover on the design front, but performance wise this car is expected to be the same like its regular sibling. Here we will take a look and speculate what we can expect from the Tata Tiago Aktiv.

Being based on the Tata Tiago the Tiago Aktiv looks just like the regular model, bit of muscular and sportier with the added accessories albeit. Among the additional accessories the Tiago Aktiv sports thick black plastic cladding at the front bumper, splitter with faux silver at the front fascia. With the additional cladding at the lower front fascia the car looks sporty and muscular at the front profile; while at the side profile the car features sporty looking blade shaped alloy wheels, metallic inserts at the running boards, roof rails, glossy black wing mirror caps. The rear profile also received sporty features which come in form of rear splitters. The rear would also get a sharp roof spoiler which will not only enhance the appeal of the car but will also make the crossover look very much sporty.
Apart from these accessories, the car will come with the same Tiago features like sharp headlamp clusters which are joined by a piano black finished smiling grille with honeycomb pattern, slated air intake at the front, while the side profile bears the blackened glass area with the waistline running upward toward the rear. Dimensionally the Tiago Aktiv will retain the same length, width, height and wheelbase.
Competing this new Tiago Aktiv will be the likes of higher priced Volkswagen Cross Polo, Toyota Etios Cross and soon to be launched Chevrolet Beat Activ. The Chevrolet Beat Activ is expected to be the closest rival against the Tiago Aktiv. The Beat Activ was unveiled at the 2016 Auto Expo earlier this year in a concept form, and the car is about to be launched as a production model later this year, which will be based on the new generation Beat hatchback. Design wise the Beat Activ sports compact and stylish design with large headlamps, two part signature Chevrolet grille, round shaped fog lamps, a bit beefy bumper at the front. Honestly, this soft roader looks much more appealing than the Tiago Aktiv.
Volkswagen showcased the Cross Polo at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo, which looks as stylish as the regular Polo is. With the souped up appearance the Cross Polo looks like this car is capable to some typical off roading. On the other hand, the Toyota tried its hand in the small crossover segment in Indian market with the Etios Cross, which looks muscular and sporty, but lacks the sharp styling like the VW Cross Polo or even the Chevrolet Beat Activ.
The interior of the Ta Tiago Aktiv will also receive some updates compare to the regular model. Expect the interior to receive a sporty theme, which is likely to be all black, while among the features it is expected to receive a multifunction steering wheel, dual pod instrument cluster with both analog and digital display, piano black finished hexagonal centre console with MID infotainment system, which are all available inside the cabin of the regular variant. The Tiago Aktiv might get some chrome garnishing inside the cabin as well.
On the other side the Chevrolet Beat Activ is very much sporty with its compact yet stylish interior design. The small sporty soft roader gets multifunction steering wheel, a motorcycle inspired instrument cluster with both analog and digital display, the centre console sports a 7 inch MyLink touchscreen infotainment system, and the seats will get body colour contrast stitching. The Volkswagen Cross Polo on the other hand sports a similar interior like the regular Polo, which comprises of multifunction steering wheel, dual analog and a digital display at the instrument cluster, a stylish centre console. The Toyota Etios Cross on the other hand doesn’t actually look stylish on par with the rivals, as the car comes with a bit old fashioned but unusual interior. The instrument cluster sits at the center position above the centre console on the dashboard, which features a roundish appearance.
Tata Tiago Aktiv is likely to come available with the same powertrain options like its regular sibling, which include a 1.2 litre Revotron petrol engine paired with a 5 speed manual transmission and churns out 85 PS of peak power at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm of peak torque at 3500 rpm, while the 1.05 litre Revotorq engine does the duty under the hood of the diesel variant, which mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox generates 70 PS of peak power at 4000 rpm and 139 Nm of peak torque between 1800 rpm to 3000 rpm. The petrol and the diesel engine deliver the fuel economy of 23.84 kmpl and 27.28 kmpl of fuel efficiency respectively.
Chevrolet Beat Activ is available in both petrol and diesel engine options, and it draws power from 1.2 litre SMARTECH petrol and 1.0 litre SMARTECH diesel engine, both of which gets mated to a 5 speed manual transmission and churns out 78 PS and 57 PS of peak power respectively, while the torque output stand at 106.5 Nm and 142.5 Nm respectively.
The 2016 Volkswagen Cross Polo comes with 1.2 litre MPI engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox which generates 74 bhp of peak power and 110 Nm of peak torque, while the 1.5 litre TDI diesel engine is paired with a 5 speed manual transmission and kicks out 88.73 bhp of peak power and 230 Nm of peak torque.
The Toyota Etios Cross is powered by a range of engines which include 1.2 litre petrol engine generating 80 PS of peak power and 104 Nm of peak torque, a larger 1.5 litre petrol unit churning out 90 SP of peak power and 132 Nm of peak torque, and a 1.4 litre diesel engine which pumps out 68 SP of peak power and 170 Nm of peak torque.

The Tata Tiago Aktiv is expected to come as the cheapest offering in the fray as the Tiago based crossover will sport price tags ranging between INR. 4 lakh to INR. 6 lakh, as presently the Tiago Aktiv accessory pack is available with an additional INR. 35000 to INR. 40000 over the price of the Tata Tiago regular model which is priced between INR. 3.20 lakh to INR. 5.54 lakh. The Tiago Aktiv will be manufactured on made to order basis, and in small batch as well.
The Chevrolet Beat Activ is expected to be priced between INR. 5 lakh to INR. 7 lakh. Volkswagen Cross Polo gets price tag around INR. 8.8 lakh, while the Toyota Etios Cross is priced at around INR. 7 lakh.
Chevrolet Beat Activ is a crossover soft roader built based on the next generation Chevrolet Beat, which is about to hit the Indian market soon in a few months. The car was first showcased at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo as concept from, and the production variant is under work. The Beat Active will get distinctive accessorized look compare to the regular Beat and it will be drawing power from a 1.2 litre SMARTECH petrol engine and a 1.0 litre SMARTECH diesel engine, while the 5 speed manual transmission will be standard for both the engines.
Volkswagen Cross Polo is a muscular looking and offroad worthy Polo hatchback. The Volkswagen Polo’s popularity is an added advantage for this car. Although Toyota doesn’t have any ambition in the small car segment in Indian market, but the automaker initially tried its hand in the segment by launching Etios based crossover, which looks stylish and offroad worthy. The car is available in two different petrol and a single diesel engine options.
