Come the festive season, and launch a special edition car featuring some attractive body graphics, colour scheme, some added interior features. This is has been a popular, tried and tested method for various companies to boost up their sales figure during great Indian festive season.
With the festive mood already on its rising, and just a month away, the trend has begun again. With various auto manufactures showcasing and launching their so called special edition or limited edition cars, Tata Motors is not staying behind. They recently launched a special anniversary edition of their popular compact sedan Tata Zest. No wonder, on the eve of festive season, this new car will grab some attention, and of course boost up the sales figure for Tata Motors. Exactly one year ago Tata Motors has launched Zest. To celebrate the anniversary of that event they now launched a new edition of Tata Zest.
As per the ongoing trend, these so called special edition cars don’t actually come sporting new mechanism or enhanced power and performance, but only some attractive cosmetic changes. Let’s see, how Tata Motors has presented their festive bet Tata Zest Anniversary Edition.
Based on the Tata Zest XMS variant this Tata Zest Anniversary Edition compact sedan comes in only one body colour scheme, which is Vocal White. Although this is a special edition car, but there is nothing special to boast about this car. Tata Motors probably made their best effort to make this car attractive with the badging of ‘Anniversary Edition’, but the reality is this car doesn’t look attractive at all.
At the front profile, the front lower bumper comes painted in the body colour, while at the side profile the this car adorn anniversary special body graphics, which comes in form of a blue colour strip running through the body, almost parallel to the window area. The ORVMs are painted in Piano Black, while all four wheels come sporting new covers. There is a special ‘Anniversary Edition’ badge at the C pillar of this car. Other than these styling features, the entire car is just the same like the previous edition.

The common Indian man wants maximum from inside the cabin while buying a car. Therefore the interior deserves some strong feature packed package, and that too should be stylish. Interior of the Tata Zest comes quite feature packed, but in this special ‘Anniversary Edition’ there is no unique eye grabbing feature available at all. The only inclusions in this special edition model are minor cosmetic changes.
Tata Zest Anniversary Edition comes with front seats sporting ‘Anniversary’ embroidery. The front doors come with scuff plates and that too with illumination features. The rear window curtain can be operated with a remote control, which looks luxurious, but not necessary actually for a compact budget sedan like Zest. There is a bottle holder at the floor console. So far, these are the features available in the cabin of Tata Zest Anniversary Edition compact sedan.

While there are few changes made to the standard edition of Tata Zest to give it a new look, the powertrain remains the same.
The standard edition of Tata Zest comes with both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol engine comes in form of cast iron block and alloy head made 1.2 liter turbocharged MPFi SOHC unit, displacing 1193 cc. Matched with 5 speed manual gear box This unit produces 90 Ps of peak power at 5000 rpm, and 140 Nm maximum torque at 1750 – 3500 rpm. On the other hand the diesel engine of Tata Zest comes in two tunes, producing different power outputs. One unit of 1.3 liter Qudrajet multijet unit churns out 90 PS of peak power at 4000 rpm, and 200 Nm maximum torque at 1750 – 3000 rpm. While another diesel unit produces 75 PS of peak power at 4000 rpm, and 190 Nm at 1750 – 3000 rpm. Both these diesel engine comes matched with both F Tronic AMT and manual gear box. The petrol and diesel engines come with ARAI certified fuel economy of 17.6 kmpl and 23 kmpl relatively.

Tata Zest Anniversary Edition compact sedan will be available for sale at the end of September, 2015; in selected showrooms, and it will be available till October 2015. The petrol variant of this special edition car will be priced at around INR. 5.89 lakhs (Ex showroom, Delhi). On the other hand the diesel variant of the car will be available at INR. 6.94 lakhs (Ex showroom, Delhi). Tata Motors claims that, while buying this car, customers will enjoy benefits worth of INR. 31000 at the price of INR. 15000 only.
Tata Zest has always been one of the favorite compact sedans for buyers in budget segment. This new special edition with a limited period offer is expected to boost the sales of Tata Zest during the upcoming festive season. As Tata Motors says, they want to zestify the customers this season.
