Tata Motors is undoubtedly one of the most sought after player in the Indian automobile market. Since last few years the Indian origin automaker has been presenting spectacular concepts and production models at the New Delhi Auto Expo. 2016 Auto Expo was no different in this regard. Tata Motors won the award for best pavilion at Auto Expo 2016. They showcased cars like Tata Tiago compact hatchback, Tata Kite 5 sub-4 metre compact sedan, Tata Nexon, Tata Hexa and many more.
Among all those cars there was a fiery Orange sporty looking compact hatchback sitting at the Tata pavilion and generating interest among the visitors. As we took a look, it looked like a rebadged and redesigned Tata Bolt, but the car was christened as Tata Sport. Well, let’s talk straight. Tata Motors is bringing another hot hatchback to Indian market, which will be their first hot hatchback. Sounds interesting, doesn’t it?
Hot hatchbacks are always something people love. Although India has been left behind on the hot hatchback front, but the scenario is changing fast as several automakers are bringing their own products. Till date, Tata Motors has been producing passenger cars for ordinary purposes, but now they seem to have taken a new vision, which is a bolder step. Tata Bolt was a bold step from the brand and now they want to take one step further with the Tata Sport. As we have heard, Tata Motors will launch the sporty hot hatchback later in 2016 and it will compete directly against Fiat Abarth Punto, and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS.
Tata Sport is a Tata Bolt with a sporty character and an agile performer soul. Tata Motors has partnered with Jayem Automotives to develop performance oriented special vehicles, and their first product is the Tata Sport. Although it dropped the name Bolt, but the car can be easily identified as a redesigned version of the Bolt. At the front, the changes that become apparent at the first glance include a larger hexagonal shape air intake at the front bumper, which looks deeper with the splitter-like bottom part, surely to enhance the aerodynamic efficiency. The front bumper also sports round fog lamps. Otherwise the headlamps and front grille looks similar to the Bolt. Large swept back headlamps get HID units and integrated LED daytime running lamps. The front grille sports honeycomb grilles with a “S” badge at the centre and a sleek chrome bar running above the grille connects the two headlamps.
Tata Motors has equipped the car with aggressive body kits to make it aerodynamically efficient. The side profile gets 17-inch alloy wheels sitting under relatively larger wheel arches. The side air intakes look stylish with a Jaguar-like styling. The greenhouse area is blackened to give a sporty feel and the ORVMs sport side turning lamps. Below the greenhouse area there is a sleek character line running from the front fender to the rear tail lamps. The side profile also boasts a subtle crease at the lower part running through the doors. A floating roof design and an antenna at the front make the car appear in a stylish note.
The rear profile gets a high mounted rear spoiler with integrated stop lamp in it. There is a thick chrome bar in form of rear door handle. The taillamps look in perfect shape and the rear bumper looks large with a diffuser like black part at the centre bottom.

The interior gets a sporty feel through the black leather seats with red contrast stitching, leather wrapped multifunction steering wheel with control buttons. The steering wheel gets a “S” badge at the centre. The driver information panel gets a dual pod setup, while at the centre console, a touchscreen infotainment system is visible. The centre console gets several control buttons and knobs. The AC vents and gear shifter knob get red highlights. Apart from these the cabin gets performance oriented sporty pedals as well. So far, the interior is similar to the Tata Bolt except the leather seats and red contrast stitching along with the red highlights at the AC vents.
Power will be supplied to the Tata Sport from a modified 1.2 litre turbocharged Revotron MPFi petrol engine under the hood which is paired with a 5 speed manual transmission.
