What do we know so far
Tata Motors definitely has some aggressive plans for the Indian market; we have seen them showcasing some new and exciting products at the 2016 Auto expo and even already launched few of them already. Tata also has planned slew of new launches for the Indian market in the coming months as well as next year. After taking care of the small car segment Tata now wants to strengthen their foothold in the SUV market of India as well. They have plans to introduce the Hexa Crossover which will replace the Aria while they also have plans to introduce a completely new compact SUV called the Nexon as well by the next year end.
Apart from all that there is some other good news for those who actually are looking for a slightly more premium SUV. According to the recent reports Tata is also working on a new SUV codenamed Q501 which will compete directly with the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. The best thing about this upcoming SUV is that it will actually be based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport. The SUV is already exported to the US market for testing.
Things even get better because Tata actually will use the same Land Rover body shell as well and no we are not done with that the Q501 SUV will even use the same platform of the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

If we talk about exterior surely the Q501 will take its styling inspiration heavily from the Land Rover Discovery Sport after all it is not only using the same platform but the same body shell as well. The new body shell of the Q501 SUV borrowed from the Discover Sport is built with high-strength steel and light-weight aluminium which actually means the car will be lightweight as well which will not only help in its performance but fuel efficiency as well.
Although the car was not caught yet being tested it is quite a hard to inform you what its exterior will look like. But we can inform you that the Q510 SUV will be use Tata’s new IMPACT design language which actually debuted with the Tiago hatchback. Expect the upcoming SUV to get almost the same dimensions as the Discovery Sport. As far as the styling is concerned expect the SUV to look aggressive as well sporty at the same time.

Before going into any other detail let me inform you all that the Q510 SUV will be offered with both six as well as seven seat option as well. The reports also states that the 5 seater SUV is called Q501 while the 7 seater has been codenamed as Q502.
As far as the interiors are concerned expect the new upcoming SUV to get a lot more premium interiors than the Hexa Crossover because this will be positioned above the Crossover and also will be the flagship SUV offering from Tata. The dashboard will definitely get a big touchscreen infotainment system, while you can also expect perhaps a digital instrument cluster as well.
The much awaited flagship SUV from Tata Motors will be powered by 2.0-litre MultiJet II diesel engine from Fiat which is expected to produce about 170 Bhp of peak power and 300+ Nm of torque figures. The new powertrain will come paired to a six speed manula while there will also be an option of an automatic transmission as well. The upcoming SUV will be offered with both two wheel as well four wheel drive variants.
As already mentioned above Tata’s new Q501 SUV will be their flagship offering in the Indian market and it will compete with the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour which actually means that you can expect it to be priced in the same range as these SUV’s.
The reports on the internet states that the Tata actually has plans to showcase the new SUV perhaps at the 2018 Auto Expo while expect the launch to happen towards the middle of that year.
