Upcoming Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross Technical Details Revealed

Upcoming Maruti-Suzuki S-Cross Technical Details Revealed

Maruti Suzuki S-Cross surely was able to attract some attention even before its launch which is in the month of August 2015 and just to give people some idea of the car Maruti revealed all the details to the Indian media at an event held in Mumbai Yesterday. The Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster rival will be made available with only 2 diesel engine options and surprisingly it won’t be getting any petrol engine option anytime soon which can be a bit of disappointment for some petrol heads who are looking to get their hands on a Crossover.

The diesel engines which will be offered under the hood of the S-Cross is a 1.6 Litre unit producing about 118 bhhp of peak power and 320 Nm of torque while the other smaller diesel engine on offer is the 1.3 Litre unit which is also seen in plenty of other Maruti products, this engine promises to produce about 89 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of torque. The 1.6 Litre unit will come mated to a 6 speed manual while the later will get the 5 speed manual gearbox. It is certain that Maruti Suzuki won’t be offering any petrol engine or an automatic gearbox with the Crossover at the time of its launch. What is even more disappointing is also the fact that the S-Cross will be offered only in the front wheel drive layout and the auto manufacturer has not even provided the AllGrip AWD system as an option with the car (this feature is available in the International market). Both the diesel engines are badged DDis 320 and DDis 200 which are actually their torque output figures.

The Maruti S-Cross will be offered with a total of 5 trim levels which includes Sigma, Sigma (O), Delta, Zeta and Alpha while the more powerful DDis 320 will be available only with the Delta, Zeta and Alpha trim levels.

Auto Expo 2014: Maruti-Suzuki showcases Ciaz and S-cross concept (Live Images and details)

Auto Expo 2014: Maruti-Suzuki showcases Ciaz and S-cross concept (Live Images and details)

India’s renowned automobile manufacturer Maruti Suzuki showcased two of their most exclusive products today at the Auto Expo. These new products clearly prove that Maruti Suzuki is all set to try their luck in new and distinct segments and retain their lost position once again the Indian auto market.

The first one is a compact crossover called SX4 Cross which is built on a completely new platform. This new concept will offer comfort and luxury of a sedan to all of its occupants inside and will also have the capability of going off the tarmac; the SX4 Cross was first showcased at the Geneva Motor Show held last year. It definitely has a distinctive bold crossover styling and strong lines all over its body which enhances the muscular appeal of this SUV. From the images it is quite clear that it also has an impressive ground clearance which quite clearly highlights its offroading capability. Unlike other crossovers the SX4 Cross will come equipped with a 4wheel Drive system and also with the 4 driver selectable driving modes which will extract maximum performance out of the vehicle in adverse conditions.

It also has received a 5 star rating from NCAP for its Crash safety which now perhaps has become main concern for many Indians. Although Maruti Suzuki will position the SX4 Cross over the other compact SUV’s which are available in our market presently but will be positioned lower than the Grand Vitara.

The other vehicle which was showcased by the Auto manufacturer was a concept mid-sized sedan called Ciaz built especially for the markets of India and China. We must confess here that this sedan definitely will impress you at the first sight; Ciaz has a long wheelbase and low height which makes it look even sportier. This new sedan will replace the SX4 sedan which has not done well in our market, the Concept sedan will be launched with the option for both Petrol and Diesel engine.

Maruti-Suzuki to showcase S-Cross, the SX4 replacement at the Paris Motor Show

Maruti-Suzuki to showcase S-Cross, the SX4 replacement at the Paris Motor Show

Suzuki will be revealing its new S-Cross concept which could replace the SX4 at the Paris motor show in September. Not many details are known on the S-cross but according to the manufacturer the crossover concept embodies ‘emotion, quality and aerodynamics’. Suzuki has unveiled for the first time an official sketch and the five-door S-Cross hatchback will feature a distinctive beltline. There would be a protective body moulding all around and a skid plate under the front.

The pair of teaser images shows little of the S-Cross but this stubby five-door crossover is in the mould of the Nissan Juke. The body cladding around the sills make the 4x4 look like a crossover and sales for this vehicle are expected to begin in 2014 in India.

We must admit though that the sketch and teaser image portray a rather good-looking machine and at the Paris Motor Show the S-cross concept will be shown alongside Suzuki’s Alto, Splash, Swift, SX4, Jimny and Grand Vitara.
