Maruti-Suzuki Celerio Diesel

Why do we actually buy diesel cars? We do because Diesel prices are still comparatively low when compared with petrol fuel prices and moreover the auto manufacturers are really taking the technology to a whole new level where even the diesel cars too started to return a descent amount of fuel efficiency.

The Auto manufacturer Maruti does not really needs any introduction and they have launched their popular hatchback Celerio last year at the 2014 Auto Expo and the special feature of this car apart from its good looks was that it came with an AMT Transmission which eliminated the usage of clutch which actually helped the owners to drive the car without any hustle within the city traffic. However the only disadvantage of this car was that it came only with the petrol engine option and there was no diesel option for this particular hatch.

Recently Maruti was working hard to develop a diesel engine which was used for the first time under the hood of their popular hatch Celerio. The specialty of this diesel unit was that it was developed fully in-house Maruti and this diesel engine also happens to be the Suzuki Motor Corporation’s first diesel engine. This 793 cc unit although does not promise huge amount of power though but it surely excels in the fuel efficiency department.

2017 Maruti Celerio (Facelift)

what to expect from this upcoming hatchback

Some of the rumours state that Maruti will be launching the new facelift Celerio in India soon. This car, when launched back in 2014, was popular for its AMT transmission; as a matter of fact, the Celerio was the first Maruti hatchback which featured AMT transmission. The upcoming hatchback will receive its first mid-life update soon, and the rumours also suggest that that the car will be made more attractive and will feature some new technologies to compete with some of its rivals who has earned lots of popularity within the few years of their launch.

The details of the changes to the facelifted hatchback are scarce at this moment, but it will definitely get a restyled exterior as well as interior to keep things fresh until and unless Maruti launches the new generation car. As far as the drivetrain is concerned Maruti has no intentions of making any changes under the hood of this hatchback. Maruti introduced a diesel variant of the Celerio back in 2015 but was later discontinued due to poor sales figures.

Speaking of automobiles too, we have seen the advent of various new technologies and features which have resulted in a surge in car sales, thus increasing the number of cars on the roads day by day, resulting in a kind of chaos and traffic problems, especially in metropolitan cities.

Due to rising inconvenience caused by poor traffic management, many prospective buyers are shifting towards cars which are offering the convenience of automatic transmissions. This is a result that many budget cars are now offered with automatic transmissions. However, most of these cars are specifically built to a cost factor, which is why most of the car makers are preferring to offer automated manual transmissions over the pricey conventional torque converters and CVTs. Speaking of the automated manual transmissions, these gearboxes facilitate manual gear changes by pressing the clutch pedal at the same time as changing gears with the usage of electronic sensors, pneumatics, processors and actuators. Adding to their popularity is the fact that these gearboxes aren’t too costly over manual counterparts, thus making them quite value for money.

In this story, we are going to throw some light on all the cars in the Indian market which are available with the choice of automated manual transmission, popularly known as AMT. Here we go:-

2016 Global NCAP Crash Tests Once Again Proved That We Are Still Driving Tin Cans

The crash tests were done under #SaferCarsforIndia campaign

Global NCAP is an independent body who conducts crash safety test on various cars across the world. They came into the limelight when they tested five of the most popular small family cars of the India including the Tata Nano, Maruti Alto800, Hyundai i10, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo back in the year 2014. All the Indian popular hatchbacks scored miserably at the 2014 Crash test raising a big question about safety of their occupants.

Now after almost two years of that horrible incident, Global NCAP once again proved that the Indian manufacturers has not taken any big step after that horrific crash test results two years ago towards the safety of the passengers.

Global NCAP recently conducted a new test on five different popular Indian cars this time and the results are unexpectedly shocking. The five cars which were tested this time included the popular Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Celerio, Maruti Suzuki Eeco, Hyundai Eon and Mahindra Scorpio. Unfortunately all of them failed the test miserable leaving a big question once again about the safety of the adult occupants inside the car during the time of crash. What is even more disappointing is also the fact that these were the results after increasing awareness about vehicle safety in India over the past two years.

So why the Indian manufacturers are still making sub standard cars which are not even able to provide even the basic safety features for its occupants? What is even more shocking as well as surprising is also the fact that these cars were crash tested at speeds of 64 kph which is an average speed on our highways. Indian roads are considered one of the most dangerous and unsafe roads of the world but still we are lagging far behind when it comes to road safety. Although many auto makers are providing airbags nowadays even in the base variant but there are still many automakers that are not moreover a big question is also raised about the structural integrity of these passenger cars.

Below provided are the actually crash safety test results of the five various cars that were tested recently

Maruti-Suzuki’s popular Auto Gear Shift cars sold 50000 units

Automatic gear shifting is quite a popular technology all around the globe. Indian customers too are slowly opting toward the automatic transmission technology. Indian customers are generally cost sensitive, hence automatic transmission is yet to get a fare share in the Indian market, as it comes quite expensive than the manual one, and moreover automatic gear boxes are not that much fuel efficient like that of the manual ones. Hence comes, Automated Manual Transmission, which neither is completely automatic one, nor completely a manual one.

Several auto manufacturers are trying to woo the customers in Indian market by pairing their vehicles with AMT gearboxes. There are several names also. Maruti Suzuki calls it Auto Gear Shift technology. Recently, Maruti Suzuki has announced their Auto Gear Shift technology powered cars have crossed a sales figure of 50, 000 units. Incidentally, Maruti Suzuki offers two cars with AGS, which are Maruti Suzuki Celerio and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.

Eventually, Maruti Suzuki Celerio comes as the most fuel efficient car of Indian in the segment. Customers from Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Ahmadabad, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kochi prefer to buy AGS cars.

Auto Gear Shift system is equipped with the Intelligent Shift Control Actuator (ISCA), which is an electric hydraulic actuator, which automatically performs clutch and shift operations. Auto Gear Shift technology combines the actuator and controller and directly mounts them in the transmission in order to unify the working components. It permits synchronised control over the clutch, shifting, and engine and helps in smoother gear changes. It also brings together the advantages of both the manual and automatic transmissions, while the gear shifting time is shortened compared to the conventional automatic transmissions. Mated with the 1 litre K-next engine, the new generation transmission system with optimized ECU calibration helps to boost the fuel efficiency of the car.

Maruti-Suzuki Celerio AMT’s waiting period now Eight Months

The Maruti Celerio is the company’s first small car equipped with an automated manual transmission. AMT makes the car extremely easy to drive especially in the city traffic. This one feature has made the car so popular that Maruti Suzuki has its order books full. Since launch, the Celerio has seen high demand and the waiting period was about six months. Now, according to R C Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India, the waiting period for the car is expected to go up further.

According to him, those cars booked during this month will probably be delivered next year. The waiting period for the Celerio AMT has gone up to seven-eight months and may rise further. Now, this may lead to cancellation of bookings as well. As production capacity cannot be increased overnight, Maruti Suzuki is bound to lose a few customers to rival brands.

The Maruti Celerio AMT is priced at a very competitive price and for the practicality it offers, it seems like a good bargain. The Celerio is also available with a manual transmission and cost less than the automatic. That said, people are getting attracted towards the Celerio AMT. Earier, Maruti Suzuki had also announced an increase in the production of the Celerio to 10,000 units per month, which might not be enough.
