It’s been nearly 17 years Chevrolet Niva was launched for the first time. A result of Chevrolet and AutoVAZ joint venture. The Niva is based on the Russian Lada Niva. Although the look is way behind from satisfactory level compare to the present generation SUVs, but Chevrolet Niva is one such car which can give several modern SUVs real tough competition. Given the fact, that Russia is one of the most diverse terrain countries in the world, this car has proved its ability to perform well.
In 2014 Chevrolet showcased a new Niva model, which sports plenty of changes at the exterior and inside the cabin. This new model is much more aggressive looking, appealing and powerful than the outgoing model. In Indian automobile market SUV segment is one of the most happening segment. The mid size SUV segment is not that crowded in Indian automobile market yet, but that doesn’t mean it is competition free. Two India bound next generation SUVs Ford Endeavour aka Everest and Toyota Fortuner which will be launched in the coming months are set to redefine the segment.
Both the vehicles have been in the Indian auto market for quite some time now. While Toyota Fortuner has became one of the most sold SUV’s in India, the Ford Endeavour on the other hand couldn’t actually capture the market share. Although the 2016 Ford Endeavour looks hot and it is expected to give the upcoming 2016 Toyota Fortuner some tough competition.
Ford has already showcased the new Endeavour which is also named as the Everest in their official website. The new generation Endeavour looks totally different from the outgoing version. It also comes powered by some anew and updated powertrains. On the other hand, the Toyota Fortuner too gets restyled and sleeker looking exterior. The 2016 Fortuner is surely a stunner. There are many stories of Land Rover vehicles around the globe. But, have you ever heard a tale, where a fleet of Land Rover Series I SUV’s still is the lifeline for an entirely remote and important zone.

Land Rover Taxi Association of Maney Bhanjyang is the largest operator of Land Rover Taxis in the entire South East Asia. While there are some people who claims that, this is also the biggest Land Rover Taxi operator association. Keeping aside the debate and controversy; one thing is for sure that, these fleet of ageing Land Rover Series I vehicles are the "lifeline of an entirely remote area", where there is no tar topped roads, but only some rocks laid to be called as the ‘Road’.
The association is known as the Singalila Land Rover Association, and it operates a total number of 45 Land Rover Series I vehicles. Although these SUV’s are more than half a century old, but all of them still looks and performs as good as new. From the exterior, the iconic Land Rover Green badges are gone or completely faded away; instead there are aluminium plates with the iconic Land Rover symbols and the name itself. Surely those badges took the toll of travelling on the rough roads and cloud wrapped gushy wind.
The president of the Singalila Land Rover Association Mr. Kalu Tamang discussed with us, how these Land Rovers came in the region. This is surely an interesting feature which not only proves the capability of this ageing Land Rovers but also their importance for these people living in these remote areas.

Many people say beauty is softness, but many don’t agree to that. Because, beauty is rock solid ruggedness too.
When it comes to Mercedes Benz, the iconic German auto manufacturer has always been popular for the sleek beauty, refined look and smooth handling which come with that three pointed star logo. In 1979 world has seen a new era in Mercedes Benz history, which was the introduction of G class. The rugged looking off roading vehicles was no way similar to the sleek, elegant usual Mercedes vehicles, but soon it gained popularity around all the corners of the world, and later in the course of time it had created numerous pages of history.
Mercedes Benz ‘G’ class is derived from German word ‘Geländewagen’, which means off road vehicle. This genre of cars came from a joint developmental research project which was started in 1970 and the first car rolled out in 1979. Initially it was used in the armed forces around the world, as the off roader vehicle is one of the most powerful car of all time to literally rule any kind landscape, although later the civilian editions came in the fray and generated popularity. In its early days, these cars were not so much luxurious, they were loud, not comfortable, and slow, although with years of refinement they evolved and became more powerful, comfortable and luxurious. Gradually, the car which was marked as the best off roader beast once; became a lifestyle vehicle around the continents.
Recently Mercedes Benz launched a new version of G-63 AMG which they named as ‘Crazy Colour Edition’. The new edition of G-63 AMG brings vibrant colours to life through these beautiful rugged yet refined looking luxurious off roader beasts. There are many of us, who have seen the movie “Cars”, where those little toy cars astonished us. Reality could be different, but not that much different that you can’t expect a reel like car in your garage. Although the automobile manufacturers don’t support the over modification, but if you wish for that and willing to spend money for that, then it can be easily possible by a celebrity car designer like Dilip Chhabria.
Recently Mahindra launched their much acclaimed SUV Thar, which is probably best in class in Indian market when the question is about off road capability. Honestly, Mahindra Thar looks best in rugged terrains rather than on the metro city’s polished roads, but DC did that exactly, he simply turned this vehicle into a polished city vehicle, which can perform its due duty on off roads also, but the twist is yet to come. After the makeover the hunk like car looks like it simply came out of the page of a comic’s book or may be from the “Cars” movie itself.
Here we would like to give a “Take A Look” tour to the car straight from DC plant, and he named it DC Urban Thar.
In India the concept of adventure trip is growing day by day, that might be to the rugged Himalayan terrains, or through the hilly jungle areas of north Bengal or north east zone or any other adventure tourism spots. And thus come the growing need and popularity of SUVs. Although the compact SUV segment is doing absolutely fine business now a days, but adventure loving people of northern Indian states like Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh generally love a bit rugged looking SUV’s than the sophisticated compact SUVs, that’s because of their macho and masculine nature and has a hardcore offroading gene planted in them.
Recently Mahindra launched their much acclaimed Thar in a new avatar, which is of course not comfortable like any other compact SUVs but, definitely the champion when it comes to executing off road tasks, it also earned the title ‘True Blue’ off roader, which really make it the king of the segment. With the Mahindra Thar in fray, only one vehicle is there give it competition, both as per looks, as well as executing tasks at hand, which is Force Gurkha. The later was launched in 2008 didn’t do much business, but compare to the pricing it came easier option for the people who care for their budget most.
Here we will take a comparative look at both the vehicle in a spec comparison
