Skoda definitely upped their games when they showcased the new Octavia and now they dropped another bomb on September 1st 2016 when they took the covers off their much awaited flasghsip SUV Kodiaq. The 7 seater SUV will also go on sale towards the first half of 2017 while it will make its grand entry into the Indian market towards the second half of 2017. The Kodiaq is actually based on the Vision-S SUV concept which made its debut at the Geneva Motor show. The SUV when launched will be positioned above the Yeti Crossover and will take on some of the big names of this game like the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.

The best thing about this SUV which will catch your attention is that it is actually much bigger than their existing Yeti SUV and will get a completely new and much more attractive design with sharp contoured lines. The Czech automaker has already released few teaser images of this upcoming SUV and before finally unveiling the real thing.

The Kodiaq shares the same Volkswagen’s MQB platform which actually also underpins the second generation Tiguan as well. Now that the covers are off we have tried to provide you all the details about this new SUV which will also be launched here next year.

Kodiaq Listed On Official Skoda India Website Launching Soon

The flagship SUV offering from Skoda is expected to launch here in Q4 2017

Finally, the Skoda Kodiaq has been updated in the Skoda India’s official website. The ‘En Route’ caption was also provided under the SUV’s image which makes it sure that Skoda will be launching the Kodiaq SUV soon in India. You can expect the Kodiaq SUV to enter Indian market towards the Q4 2017.

The Kodiaq is the flagship SUV offering from Skoda which also comes with seven seat options. The production variant of the SUV is based on the Vision S concept which was first showcased at the 2016 Geneva Motor show. Once launched in the Indian market the Kodiaq will compete directly with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Hyundai Tucson. The Kodiaq will be Skoda’s second SUV offering for the Indian market after the Yeti.

The new Kodiaq is based on the Volkswagen’s MQB platform which also underpins a couple of other vehicles from Audi as well. The SUV is offered internationally with three engine options including the 1.4 TSI, 2.0 TSI and 2.0 TDI unit. The engines are paired to either a six-speed manual or a DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. We are still not sure which engines will be offered in the Indian market though.

Skoda Kodiaq is inspired by the Vision S concept

India bound Skoda Kodiaq is the first six seater SUV from the Czech auto manufacturer. The car was a first showcased as a concept model christened as Skoda Vision S Concept. The car is expected to launch in India sometime around in 2017. It will be the second SUV from Skoda in India after the Yeti. Although the test mules of the Skoda Kodiaq has been spotted several times, but for the first time a non camouflaged test mule have been spotted testing. Here is a video showing the car being tested without any cover.

The Skoda Kodiaq comes inspired by Bohemian glass crystal designs. The car looks sharp and aggressive. The front fascia sports sharp and trimmed headlamp clusters, vertically slated aggressive front grille, wide air intake, LED daytime running lights. The video reveals the rear profile of the car. The taillamps looks sharply design with squarish LED units. The roof spoiler, beefy rear bumper and the sloping roofline is also visible along with the sporty alloy wheels.

This piece of news is really interesting berceuse you don’t stumble upon such kind of stories everyday where an entire town gets its new name after a SUV. That’s right! An island which is located on Alaskan island changed its name for the upcoming large SUV from Skoda last Friday. The town’s original name has been changed from KODIA‘K’ to Kodia ‘Q’ as a part of the global marketing campaign initiative taken by Skoda.

The Skoda Kodiaq which will make its presence felt in the Global market towards the second half of this year received its name from a world’s largest brown bear. This bear’s are mainly found in southern coast of Alaska which takes about ten hours flight from Europe and into the largest city of Anchorage. Once you land in the city of Anchorage the island is about 650 km from that town. The ‘Kodiak’ island happens to be a national wildlife refuge and also the home of these bears.

The Alaskan island authorities supported Skoda’s unique marketing campaign for their new SUV and agreed to go ahead with the idea of changing the name on street signs, police cars, fire engines, fishing boats and advertising boards and even on their towns official; homepage. So they replaced the word ‘k’ and changed it to ‘q’.

Skoda confirms the new SUV name Kodiaq

Public debut in late 2016, launch in 2017

As we reported earlier, Skoda has decided to name its next SUV Kodiaq. The car will be larger than the outgoing Skoda Yeti, and the naming inspiration came from the Alaskan Kodiak bear. As the Czech automaker claims, the car represents larger size, masculine strength and powerful appearance, which resembles with the Alaskan Kodiak bear. This is why the naming has been done following the Kodiak bear. Skoda also informs that the new SUV will be unveiled in the second half of 2016, and it will be launched in early 2017.

The Skoda Kodiaq is based on the Vision S concept already showcased by the automaker. It is housed on the Volkswagen MQB platform, which houses the Volkswagen Tiguan also. The car gets a fresh design language, which sports sharp bi-xenon headlamps with LED sleek daytime running lights, teeth like aggressive front grille. The side profile boasts sharp and crisp character lines, sporty alloy wheels, LED side turning indicator integrated wing mirrors, blackened glass area and a sloping roof. The rear gets sleek wrapping around LED taillights. Dimensionally the car sports 4699 mm of length, 1905 mm of width, 1674.4 mm of height and 2551 mm of wheelbase. Inside the cabin the Skoda Kodiaq sports several design cues taken from the Volkswagen Tiguan.

Skoda Vision Concept had a plug in hybrid powertrain. It had a 1.4 litre TSI petrol engine paired with a 6 speed DSG automatic gearbox, capable to churn out 156 hp of peak power and 250 Nm of peak torque. There was an electric motor as well, delivering 53.64 hp of peak power and 220 Nm of peak torque. Altogether, the car can churn out 209 hp of peak power and 470 Nm of peak torque.
