2014 Skoda Fabia

2014 Skoda Fabia

The idea behind the Skoda Fabia was to deliver the comfort and space of a sedan for the price of a hatch. And while doing that, to make sure that the quality is right up there as well. Launched in India in 2007, the Fabia on sale is the second generation but despite all its benefits the hatch didn’t make the same impact in the market as the manufacturer would have hoped. Skoda would have wanted the Fabia to succeed like the Volkswagen Polo but the hatch enjoyed only mediocre success in India. Skoda however is all set to come up with the next generation Fabia and the car should hit the showrooms as early as 2014. Skoda might use the platform of the New Auto Expo in 2014 to launch the Fabia as they had earlier done in 2007 when the Fabia was first launched in the country.

2012 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo

2012 Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo

While the win on Sunday and sell on Monday motorsport philosophy is yet to catch up in India, motorsports is integral to all automobile manufacturers. Europe, the Americas, Japan, Australia, South East Asia and even the Middle East have strong motorsport programmes allowing manufacturers to showcase their racing and rallying abilities and use them as an effective marketing tool. In India Skoda is seen as an upmarket and premium brand whose cars offer brilliant build quality, Skoda however is definitely not the first choice for enthusiasts. The manufacturer has suffered from a similar image problem internationally and resorted to Rallying to change perceptions. And change perception it did. Skoda now is the current the Intercontinental Rally Championship title holder. In 2011 Skoda unveiled the Fabia Monte Carlo to celebrate 100 years of the Monte Carlo Rally and 110 years of Skoda’s participation in motorsport. Practicality of a hatch and a quality of a premium sedan is what the Skoda Fabia aims to offer. 2007 Skoda Fabia

2007 Skoda Fabia

Skoda in India has made its name with the indestructibility associated with its cars. Its cars are known for their premium feel and Skoda has managed to get a reputation of a quality manufacturer, something that most Japanese manufacturers in India are struggling with. When the Fabia was launched in 2007 at the Auto Expo, it was one of the most important and anticipated launches and while it sold well initially, sales dropped later on especially after the launch of the Volkswagen Polo. Skoda then gave the Fabia a mild makeover and engine changes. With Prices starting from Rs 4,63,545 to Rs 6,16,493 for the petrol variant and Rs 5,72,105 to Rs 6,88,559 for the diesel variant ex-showroom New Delhi, is the Fabia good enough a hatch to demand the price of a sedan?
