The newst flagship SUV offering from Skoda

Skoda definitely upped their games when they showcased the new Octavia and now they dropped another bomb on September 1st 2016 when they took the covers off their much awaited flasghsip SUV Kodiaq. The 7 seater SUV will also go on sale towards the first half of 2017 while it will make its grand entry into the Indian market towards the second half of 2017. The Kodiaq is actually based on the Vision-S SUV concept which made its debut at the Geneva Motor show. The SUV when launched will be positioned above the Yeti Crossover and will take on some of the big names of this game like the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour.

The best thing about this SUV which will catch your attention is that it is actually much bigger than their existing Yeti SUV and will get a completely new and much more attractive design with sharp contoured lines. The Czech automaker has already released few teaser images of this upcoming SUV and before finally unveiling the real thing.

The Kodiaq shares the same Volkswagen’s MQB platform which actually also underpins the second generation Tiguan as well. Now that the covers are off we have tried to provide you all the details about this new SUV which will also be launched here next year.

The first thing that will catch your attention about this new exterior styling is how Skoda has beautifully blended the elegant lines, sporty contours along with robustness which actually makes the SUV look elegant as well as an off roader at the same time.

Towards the front the SUV gets sharp looking headlamps which finished into the radiator grille. The headlight unit consists of two separate lamps which gives the SUV an aggressive four eyes face. The Kodiaq’s front as well as the rear lamps consists of a crystalline structure which actually helps this SUV stand out in the crowd. Towards the side profile the long wheelbase boasts some robust features while the sloping roof line and the tapered rear end short overhang gives all a sense of its impressive interior space. Skoda has released few images of the interior of their new Kodiaq SUV which will debut tomorrow in Berlin. The new SUV’s cabin gets takes its styling inspiration from the Octavia sedan. The entire cabin as you can notice in these images has been finished in Black and Grey. While the platic surfaces gets a touch of chrome to add some glamour. The blue strip which runs below the window line gives us a hint to the fact that Skoda has paid lot of attention to detail.

The dashboard has been designed in symmetrical zones towards the driver as well and the passenger side. The dashboard looks practical but also has a touch of glamour to it. The instrument cluster looks simple and consists of duel pods, the infotainment system is positioned in between the vertically positioned air con vents. The seats in particular are made out of high quality materials which will provide superior comfort to the passengers inside.

Talking about space the Kodiaq SUV promises plenty of room inside. The model has various seating flexibility options according to the seating and cargo options. The boot itself offers 720 Litres of space which can further be extended upto 2065 Litres by folding the rear seats. There will be plenty of standard features inside the cabin besides number of optional extras as well including heated steering wheel. For the safety the Kodiaq SUV will get door edge protection, electric child safety and sleep headrests.

Apart from the spacious interior the Kodiaq also promises to come equipped with an updated driver assistance system which ensures both improved safety as well as comfort. The dashboard will come fitted with an 8.0 inch touchscreen setup which will come with the latest technology and applications. While the Skoda Connect mobile service will help connect passengers vehicles to get online services like infotainment and navigational services etc.

The Kodiaq also has been equipped with state of the art technology. The SUV gets 6.5-inch screen as standard. This system can be connected with a Smartphone via Bluetooth. The new Smartlink app of the infotainment system supports Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and MirrorLink as well. The Kodiaq also offers a separate high-definition 8.0-inch touchscreen which gets integrated with In-Car Communication (ICC) function. The hands-free microphone records the driver’s voice, and transfers it to the back seats via the rear speakers.

The Skoda Kodiaq is offered with two TSI and three TDI units. The TSI units range consists of 1.4 Litre unit available in different state of tune and one more powerful 2.0 Litre unit. The 1.4 Litre, four cylinder produces about 125 ps of peak power 200 Nm of torque. While the more variant of the 1.4 Litre unit produces about 150 ps of 250 Nm of torque. This engine comes with ACT technology which gets Active cylinder technology. This technology shuts down the second and third cylinder when required.
While the top of the range 2.0 Litre TFSI unit produces about 180 Ps and 320 Nm of torque.

The diesel variant on the other hand gets the 2.0 Litre TDI unit, this unit is capable of producing about 190 Ps of peak power and 400 Nm of torque. This is the most powerful engine offered under the hood which helps the SUV to accelerate from 0-100 km/h mark in just 8.6 seconds. While the top speed is limited to 210 km/h mark.

The transmission options available with this SUV include a 6 speed manual transmission or a DSG gearbox with 6 or 7 speed transmission. This is also the first time that Skoda is introducing the 7 speed duel clutch transmission.

Expect the new SUV from Skoda to be priced in between INR. 21-27 Lakhs ex showroom. This will compete directly with the Ford Endeavor and the new generation Toyota Fortuner which will be launched soon in the Indian market.



Ford Launches The New Generation Endeavour In India Exterior

Ford redefined the big SUV segment with the launch of the new generation Endeavour. If you like big brawny SUV then you would definitely fall in love with the new generation Endeavour. The newest SUV from is offered with two diesel engine options. The base variant gets the 2.2 Litre four-cylinder TDCi diesel motor capable of producing about 158 Hp of peak power at 3,200 rpm and 385 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,500 rpm while the powerful engine on offer is the 3.2 Litre five-cylinder TDCi unit which is capable of producing about 97 Bhp of peak power at 3000 rpm and an impressive 470 NM of torque at 1,750-2,500 rpm. The engine is paired to 6 speed automatic transmission which sends power to all the four wheels.

Toyota haven’t yet launched the new generation Fortuner in India but it will definitely be launched here in India and will compete directly with the Kodiaq. Expect the new SUV to be powered by 2.8 Litre diesel unit which will be capable of producing about 174 Bhp of peak power and 420 Nm of torque. The engine will definitely come paired to both manual as well as an automati9c transmission as well.

The Kodiaq definitely looks like a much matured product from Skoda. The new design language, well quipped and spacious interiors and plenty of gadgets surely will appeal the new customers. The drivetrain lineup with both TDI and TSI engines on offer too looks interesting as well. The SUV as already mentioned will make its debut on 1st September 2016 in Berlin.
