What do we know so far about the next generation Duster SUV

There is no doubt in the fact that the Duster has kept Renaults cash register ringing since its launch. It has been a pocket-friendly SUV which had almost every quality in it to stay on top of its game. But, If we consider the competition now it’s already been quite some that Renault introduced the Duster in India and they should start thinking of adding the updated one now. Renault although launched a facelift variant of the SUV last year with few new nips and tucks still it is now facing lots of competition from its rivals like Maruti and Hyundai.

The good news is that the next generation Duster was recently caught testing and although it’s from Dacia the same vehicle is rebadged and sold in the Indian market by Renault. The almost production ready prototype was recently spotted testing, and the good news is that most of the body panels that has been used will be carried over the production ready variant as well.

Although the prototype was covered in heavy camouflage, it is quite evident that the new generation Duster won’t be a revolutionary model instead it carries over some of the design cues from the popular Duster SUV. Now, the prototype which was caught testing was Dacia Duster, but we can assure you the rebadged Renault Duster won’t get much of a change though.

The vehicle which was caught testing was the first prototype and although it was covered in heavy camouflage some of the visual traits like the silhouette and the overall dimensions looked almost identical to the current Duster. Towards the front, the new generation Duster will get slightly more rectangular headlamps and a differently styled grille. Expect it also a get a slightly different and more purposeful looking front bumper as well. According to the reports, the new generation Duster, unfortunately, does not underpin the same old platform which underpins the current generation car and is not switching to the Renault-Nissan’s CMF architecture.

Expect the updated Duster to get a new dashboard which will feature three new circular vents in the middle of the dash while expect the touchscreen to be positioned just below those air vents. Expect the Indian spec Duster to carry over the same touchscreen unit from the current generation SUV, but perhaps it will get slightly modified graphics. The interior is also expected to get a new three-spoke steering wheel as well. The rest of the interior will most probably remain unchanged. However, there is a fair possibility that the rear seats will perhaps also be modified for better under thigh support.

The reports state that the new generation Duster Prototypes gets diesel engine with turbochargers while the India-spec Duster to continue with the 1.5-litre petrol engine other than the popular 1.5-litre diesel engine in two states of tune. There could be a possibility of Renault introducing a turbocharged petrol unit which will power the Duster in some International markets. As far as the transmissions on the Indian spec Duster are concerned it will likely carry forward the 6-speed manual transmission and also the X-tronic CVT transmission.

Expect the new generation Duster to hit the Indian market towards the end of the year 2018 in the India. The prices are not known yet but expect it to be priced slightly higher than the current variant.

In two days Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza’s booking crosses 5600 mark

The Maruti Vitara Brezza is definitely the largest selling SUV of its segment currently. The SUV was launched with a single diesel engine option under its hood, the tried and tested 1.3 Litre unit is capable of producing about 89 Bhp of peak power and 200 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a five-speed manual gearbox.

The next generation Duster surely looks promising and because it will borrow some of the components from its predecessor including the platform and the drivetrains it will most probably be priced quite aggressively which will be its biggest USP.
As far as the changes are concerned to expect it to get a restyled exterior and some new bits on the inside while under the hood the new Duster will likely continue with the same powertrain which will be retuned for slightly more power output and fuel efficiency.
