2016 Renault KWID 1.0 Litre
The same KWID hatchback with a more powerful 1.0 Litre heart
There were rumours that Renault is all set to add another new variant to their popular entry level hatchback KWID. Now this has been done to get a fair share of this popular entry level hatchback segment which does not have a lot of competition. Renault launched the KWID recently and it quickly became popular in this segment because of its one of a kind features and offcourse out of the box Crossover type styling never seen before in a hatchback. The KWID competes directly with the Alto800, Hyundai Eon and the recently launched Datsun RediGo and we have to agree that it is actually giving some tough time to its rivals.
Now all the above mentioned cars uses a 800 cc displacement motors including the KWID but in order to get the attention of other auto makers Renault needed a bigger engines and that is why they have decided to introduce one more powerful variant to their existing KWID hatchback. Maruti who has completely changed the game with their product Alto has a 1.0 Litre engine placed under the hood of the K10, while the Korean auto maker Hyundai too has a powerful 1.0 Litre variant of the Eon as well.
So in order to cope with its competition Renault decided to introduce a new variants of the KWID at the 2016 Auto show powered by a completely new 1.0 Litre engine. The best thing about the new engine is that it not only gets a manual transmission but an optional AMT transmission as well with the 1.0 Litre variant. We successfully managed to click some images of the car from the Auto show floor and also were able to collect some new information as well which we updated in this article.

Talking about the cosmetic changes that we noticed in the powerful 1.0 Liter KWID variant well! There was none actually. Yes the new 2016 Renault KWID 1.0 Liter hatchback looked identical to the standard KWID hatchback. The only difference that we noticed though on the exterior of this hatchback came in the form of a new 1.0 Liter sticker positioned on the front hood as well as towards the C pillar of the hatchback. Besides the sticker there were no other noticeable changes on this variant.
We already are aware of the KWID Crossover type styling which actually sets it apart from the rest of the cars of its segment.
|BOOT SPACE||300 mm|
To everyone’s disappointment the more powerful KWID hatchback variant won’t actually get any major change inside. The new variant however will get duel tone dashboard with a touchscreen infotainment system with integrated navigational system, USB, Bluetooth and AUX in feature. The hatchback will also feature two front speakers, remote keyless entry and central locking and also a foldable backrest.
The best thing about the KWID is that it gets an impressive 300 Litre of boot space at the back while there is plenty of storage space inside the cabin as well.
Coming to the main highlights of the hatchback which is its drivetrain, the 1.0 Litre unit uses a completely new 1.0 Litre SCe, three cylinder motor which will produce about 68 Ps of peak power and 91 Nm of torque. The engine will come paired to a 5 speed manual transmission as of now but it will also get an AMT transmission as well later. This power figures looks identical to its rivals but the KWID is actually a lightweight hatchback which will definitely help its fuel efficiency as well performance at the same time. According to Renault the KWID 1,0 Litre unit will be able to return an impressive ARAI tested fuel efficiency figures of 23.1 kmpl.
The AMT variant of the new variant of the KWID will be dubbed as the KWID Easy-R. The interesting part is that there is actually no gear stick but a knob positioned just below the infotainment system of the AMT equipped variant of the KWID. There are three driving modes including Reverse, Neutral and Drive modes. Renault says that this innovative system was taken from their Formula 1 experience and technology. But like e already mentioned above you all will have to wait for the AMT equipped variant little longer.

When it comes to safety features unfortunately the more powerful KWID too will only get the driver side airbag as optional and not even a passenger side airbag. As far as the other safety features are concerned we are afraid that it will mis out on ABS as well as EBD.
The Alto K10 is the same Alto800 with a different looking front and rear profile styling and offcourse a new 1.0 Litre, 3 cylinder K next engine which is capable of producing about 67 Bhp of peak power and 90 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual and even an automatic gearbox as well. The cars comes with a more premium cabin as well.

Hyundai has launched a more powerful Eon with the 1.0 Litre Kappa engine which obviously produces more power than the 814 cc unit which powers the standard hatchback. The 1.0 Liter Kappa engine displacing 998 cc unit is capable of producing about 69 Ps of peak power and 97 Nm of torque. The engine is paired to a 5 speed manual transmission. There are no other changes on the exterior as well interior though beside the new engine under its hood.
According to the reports the more powerful KWID to be launched towards the end of AUgust 2016. The new variant of the KWID will definitely fulfill the need of those buyers who wants an entry level powerful hatch which they could also actually take for long drives or weekend trips.
Now although the 1.0 Liter engine is definitely powerful but do not expect that impressive fuel efficiency from the engine though which is actually available from the smaller 800 cc unit. Moreover we are also pretty sure that those who will actually think of getting their hands on the more powerful KWID will also definitely go for the Easy R AMT equipped variant which will be launched after the manual variant is launched in the Indian market.
