2014 Renault Fluence
Renault launched the Fluence sedan before their popular compact SUV Duster which raised the stakes for the French automaker in Indian market but quite honestly the sedan failed to draw attention towards it. Renault Fluence had everything to impress the consumers but somehow it never became popular like its other rivals. So in order to make it work in India, Renault launched the facelifted version immediately in our market after the manufacturer showcased it at the 2014, Delhi Auto Expo.
The new Renault Fluence has exciting new changes made both to its interior and exterior. It has stylish looking headlamps which now comes with projector halogen lamps for better visibility, a new radiator grille and many more, we will discuss about all other updates bit later. Although Renault has made noticeable cosmetic upgrades but you will be bit disappointed to find out that under the hood it’s the same old story. Renault has made absolutely no change in the engine and thus it is powered by the same 1.5-litre Direct Injection Diesel Engine which generates 110 PS of power at 4000 rpm and 240 Nm of torque at 1850 rpm, the engine has been mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox and there is even no provision for an automatic gearbox.
So with all that being said let us get into details of the new Fluence which also has been priced reasonably to attract the buyers.

The Fluence looks much more mature with its new front fascia and shiny black radiator grille with the bigger chrome Renault logo, the new headlamps looks much better than the old typically European wrap around headlamps, it also has a built in halogen projector headlamps which provides better illumination at night. The LED daytime running lights are also a new addition to the front which now has become a must have accessory for any premium car.
Take a look at its side profile and its impressive ground clearance of 168 mm, although nothing has changed here but it surely gets a new R16 Kaleido alloy wheels which adds to the better handling and dynamic appearance of the sedan. Beside all the above changes the rest of the car remains untouched.
From the exterior the car looks spacious and big and Renault has made number of changes in its interior also to make it even more attractive.

Get inside the car and you will love what you will find inside, the refreshed soft touch duel tone dashboard adds sophistication to the cabin. The digital instrument cluster looks futuristic and is easy to read both during day and night. The new Fluence also gets a 3D sound system with eight speakers to keep the passengers entertained throughout the journey, it also has been loaded with many driver-aid technologies like automatic headlamps and rain sensing wipers which makes thing a whole lot easier for the person driving the car.
There are lots of storage spaces inside the car which comes in handy during long trips above all it has an impressive 530 litres of boot space at the rear and also 60/40 split folding rear seat to make things even easier for the occupants inside.
Other features in the new Fluence include cruise control, steering audio controls, hands free telephony and rear AC vents.
DRIVETRAIN AND SUSPENSION
Renault as already mentioned above has kept the engine under the hood untouched, thus it is powered by the same 1.5-litre Direct Injection Diesel Engine which generates 110 PS of maximum power at 4000 rpm and 240 Nm of maximum torque at 1850 rpm. The engine has been mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox and it returns a claimed mileage of 20.4 km to a liter of fuel.
To handle our Indian roads the Fluence has been fitted with a Mac Pherson type with coil spring, stabiliser bar and double acting shock absorber at its front and trailing arm type with coil spring and double acting shock absorber at its rear.

Renault Fluence has been equipped with host of passive and active safety features:

- * Anti-lock braking system (ABS) with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and Brake assist.
- * It even has an electronic stability programme (ESP) with anti-skid regulation and understeering control function which ensures vehicle stability, especially under worse road conditions.
The E2 trim of the Fluence has been priced at Rs. 13.99, 000 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) whereas the E4 trim has been priced at Rs. 15, 49,000 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
Although Chevrolet has given their aging Cruze a facelift but it is hardly noticeable. If you are not after looks then you will definitely love its powerful engine because under the hood you will find a 2.0-liter VCDi diesel engine which generates an amazing 166 PS of peak power at 3800 rpm and 380 Nm of torque at 2000 rpm. This powerplant is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox although there is also an option for a 6-speed automatic transmission.
With all the cosmetic changes made to its front the Renault Fluence looks better than its predecessor, it also has been loaded with lots of new and interesting features which makes it a worthy competitor and a desirable sedan of its segment. Although it might not impress you with its engine and power output but you can surely drive this car all day long without any signs of fatigue.
