Next Porsche Panamera May Get New V8 And V6 Engines Under Its Hood

Porsche have recently launched the Panamera for the year 2014 and yet they have already decided that from what the next Panamera would derive its power from. Porsche has planned to add a new series of engine which will get its design from the company’s advanced platform of MSB. It may also happen that the company may start sharing this platform with Bentley from the year 2017 onward. The new engines which are to be added to the car are the V6 and the V8 engines and the company is hopeful that both these engines will be better than that of the engines used in their Volkswagen and Audi cars.

Wolfgang Hatz, Chief Engineer at Porsche had earlier revealed in the 2014, Geneva Motor Show, that Porsche will have its own new V8 that will be common to the new MSB platform. He also added by saying that it will be a family for the next ten years of cars.

Porsche without being a full part of the Volkswagen group have already developed their own new V8 and V6 engine which currently powers the Panamera and the Cayenne. However, the new engines which are yet to be built shall find their places in those cars which will have a MSB platform.

Porsche is now leading the current development of the MSB platform cars as cars of this model shall have sporty and luxurious front-engine, both front and rear wheel drive mainly from Porsche itself and partially from Bentley. But so far, Bentley have not yet committed for the development of its Flying Spur and next gen Continental GT models. Bentley might also consider its another option which is the Audi’s MLB platform, which is sort of longitudinal in its engine structure.

2014 Porsche Panamera

2014 Porsche Panamera

Porsche, as a brand, shot to glory and fame thanks to the one car that rocked the performance car territory from the ground. The All Mighty 911. However, cashing in on the 911’s success wasn’t enough for the Stuttgart-based brand to grow exponentially. So, they got out of their comfort zones and announced cars that, we couldn’t tell, came out of the 911 maker. The worst (which happened to be one of their top selling models) was the Porsche Cayenne, that started the " SUV from supercar manufacturer" trend. Still, people wanted more while Porsche purists started grabbing more pitchforks. So, they went ahead and announced a weird-looking super sedan called the Panamera which, currently, has undergone a facelift.

While it did offer the performance that can put a smile on your family’s face and the space to store a loot from the bank, it never really delivered in the design department. One look at the Maserati Quattroporte GTS or a Jaguar XJ and you’d be like "Porsche? Yeah right".

The 2014 Porsche Panamera looks a wee bit different compared to the old one. It still looks hideous but, it would eventually grow on you. Check out our preview to view the updates that Porsche has added to the Panamera.

2011 Porsche Panamera diesel

2011 Porsche Panamera diesel

In this day and age every manufacturer is looking at adding a diesel options to their lineup. Porsche fans weren’t impressed with the Cayenne and the diesel variant of the Cayenne came as even bigger a surprise. Times though have changed now and when Porsche launched a diesel engine in the Panamera it wasn’t a complete surprise. What came as a surprise though was the choice of engine and by opting for a sub-V8 motor, the emphasis was clearly on efficiency. The Panamera is the second largest seller for Porsche after the Cayenne and with a diesel engine it makes it a sweater proposition for the Indian market. The Panamera was unveiled in 2009 and shocked the purists but like the Cayenne it’s a necessary part of Pourche’s business plan. Named after the Carrera Panamericana road race in Latin America, Porsche claims that producing a four-door GT was a dream of company founder Ferdinand Porsche. The diesel variant of the Panamera was priced at Rs 1.3crore ex-showroom New Delhi.

2009 Porsche Panamera Turbo

2009 Porsche Panamera Turbo

The Porsche Panamera is possibly one of the most awaited cars of our time. Agreed, that’s a big statement to make but then there weren’t just Porsche enthusiasts that waited eagerly for the first 4 door sports sedan ever from Porsche. The car was kept such a secret that testing was done in tunnels and at ultra secret project areas. The Panamera was to carry forward Porsche’s brand value carrying the genes of a true blue blooded sports car while pleasing the hard core enthusiasts. The Cayenne was a first for Porsche and judging by the success of the Cayenne SUV in the world market, the Panamera too is destined for big things. The car aims to deliver the comfort of a luxury car with a heady dose of dynamism. It is a car for drivers and not rear seat passengers like the Mercedes S-class or the BMW 7-Series. Make no mistake, the Panamera is an important car for Porsche too, it was after all the dream of Ferdinand Porsche to produce a four door GT. The Panamera is named after the Carrera Panamericana road race which took place in South America and the car was launched in India in 2009. Prices for the Panamera start from Rs 1,44,26,553 and the Turbo variant is priced at Rs 2,08,90,442 ex-showroom New Delhi.
