We believe in the theory “the lightest the quickest” and one auto manufacturer who seriously does not need any introduction particularly believes in the theory with all their heart. We are talking about Porsche recently they unveiled the Boxster Spyder at the 2015, New York Auto Show. Although this is not the first time that Porsche actually launched the lightest Boxster. The Boxster Spyder was introduced for the first time back in 2009 and believe it or not but the convertible weighed almost 80 Kilogram lighter than the Boxster S. This extremely lightweight Sporstcar was released for sale in the World market in 2010 as a 2011 model.

After almost 4 years of absence Porsche has once again stepped into the same territory and given life to a new car under the same nameplate. The new generation Boxster Spyder too retains the same characteristics of the previous Spyder and decided to stay lightweight. The previous Spyder weighed only about 1275 Kilograms and all that was possible because a lot of the mechanism was removed from the car which included the mechanism to operate the soft top, infotainment system inside the cabin, storage compartments and even air conditioning. The same kind of strategy is also applied even in this completely new Boxster Spyder too.

Powered by a 3.8 Litre Flat six engine, the lightweight surely has made this car fast and it is able to sprint from 0-100km/h mark in 4.5 seconds while it can reach speeds of upto 280 km/h mark. This new Boxster Spyder is quick and responds to your every call.

The distinctive rear spoiler which rises automatically when the car reaches speeds of over 120 km/ h mark

The new Boxster Spyder is basically a 2 seater roadster which promises to provide high level of performance. Porsche does not really wanted to focus much on the design and tried to make it exceptionally beautiful instead they tried more to focus on improving its performance. So the new Boxster Spyder does not try to look too different from the standard Boxster available in the market.

The front face of this car looks sportier and all the credit goes to the bigger air vents which also looks little Cayman GT4 inspired while the middle air vents which is placed towards the front of the luggage compartment area, which also reduces the aerodynamic lift. The other features of the front includes arwe the blacked out Bi-Xenon headlamps. While towards the side profile there is nothing special to mention except those stylish looking wheels and the sporty rear view mirrors. However towards the rear the powerful bulges just behind the front passenger and the driver seats and also behind the black roll-over bars do attract your attention. The distinctive rear spoiler which rises automatically when the car reaches speeds of over 120 km/ h mark and the smoked taillamps and lastly the black rear apron which has been finished like the diffuser with twin exhausts completes the overall look of this car.

The interior will definitely not attract those who are looking for comfort and luxury because this interior has been built deliberately for driving enthusiasts, because believe it or not you get your hands on the new Boxster Spyder and you get to see a stripped off interior with nothing more than a steering wheel and the beautiful manual gear stick sticking out from the center console. However the sports bucket seats are covered with high quality leather while the seats in particular are built entire from glass-/carbon-fibre reinforced plastic which adds to more weight advantage.

You cannot ignore the sporty steering wheel while the 3 round dials in the instrument cluster provides you with all the information. The Alcantara leather is present everywhere even on the door pulls. One can even add the air conditioning, radio and other equipments at no additional costs.

0-100 km/h mark in just 4.5 seconds while it hit a top speed of 280 Km/h mark

The Boxster Spyder uses a 3.8 Litre flat-six engine which has been borrowed from the Carrera S, this engine is capable of producing 375 Hp which is lesser than what this engine produces in the Carrera S. While the same engine produces about 310 LB-FT of torque which is quite impressive. This car is fast and it can sprint from 0-100 km/h mark in just 4.5 seconds while it hit a top speed of 280 Km/h mark which also makes it the fast Boxster ever. The flat 6 cylinder engine has been mated to a manual gearbox instead of a PDK which actually makes the Boxster Spyder one good old fashioned Roadster with a manual gearbox.

Moreover to add to the fun the Boxster Spyder uses a lightweight sports chassis while the suspension has also been lowered by almost 20 mm than the standard Boxster. The long wheelbase, wide track, taut shock absorbers means that it has almost no body roll in the corners while the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanically locking rear differential helps improving traction and gives the person driving more confidence in corners.

Press Release

Porsche is highlighting the 2015 convertible season by celebrating the world premiere of the new Boxster Spyder. This pure sports car will make its debut at the New York International Auto Show. The new top model of the Boxster range retains the unique and unmistakable character of the previous Spyder, which has already attained cult status. For example, the classic roadster top is still opened and closed by hand, and the Boxster Spyder is only available with a manual transmission, benefiting both weight savings and driver enjoyment.

Staying true to roadster DNA, the Boxster Spyder offers a traditional sports-car driving experience combined with truly exceptional performance. This includes a firm sport suspension with a 20-mm lower ride height, brakes taken from the 911 Carrera S, more direct steering, and a 3.8-liter horizontally opposed six-cylinder engine with an output of 375 hp, culminating in a genuine sports car experience with outstanding driving dynamics. It is the lightest model of the current Boxster line, and the most powerful Boxster to date. Taking only 4.3 seconds to sprint from 0 to 60 mph, the Boxster Spyder has a top track speed of 180 mph.

The distinctive design of the Boxster Spyder includes stylistic elements reminiscent of legendary sports and race cars from Porsche. Two prominent streamliners that extend down along the sweeping rear lid behind the headrests pay tribute to the 718 Spyder from the 1960s. The manually operated, lightweight top is suitable for everyday use with an electric clasp, while bringing to mind roadsters from the past. The fins that stretch back from the top to the rear lend the vehicle’s silhouette its characteristic design. The front and rear fascia’s also are unique to the Boxster Spyder, and an air outlet is located in front of the forward luggage compartment.

More so than in any other Boxster, the interior of the new Spyder creates an atmosphere that elicits a feeling of pure driving pleasure. The driver and passenger sit in standard Sport Seats Plus, while the new steering wheel with a diameter of 360 mm (compared to 370 mm in other Boxster models) helps ensure the mid-engine roadster can be driven precisely and with great agility.

In line with the model’s traditional roadster character, neither a radio nor an air conditioner is included as standard equipment in order to reduce weight. However, both can be ordered as optional equipment at no cost. Furthermore, the entire range of Boxster audio systems is available for customers to choose from as an option, including the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system with navigation.

The new Boxster Spyder will be launched in the U.S. market in October and can now be ordered at dealerships. In the United States, the MSRP is $82,100, not including a $995 destination charge.
