List of AMT equipped cars in India

The complete list of clutchless cars of India

In recent years, we have seen a lot of changes which our country has been undergoing through, in each and every aspect of lifestyle and technology. Speaking of automobiles too, we have seen the advent of various new technologies and features which have resulted in a surge in car sales, thus increasing the number of cars on the roads day by day, resulting in a kind of chaos and traffic problems, especially in metropolitan cities.

Due to rising inconvenience caused by poor traffic management, many prospective buyers are shifting towards cars which are offering the convenience of automatic transmissions. This is a result that many budget cars are now offered with automatic transmissions. However, most of these cars are specifically built to a cost factor, which is why most of the car makers are preferring to offer automated manual transmissions over the pricey conventional torque converters and CVTs. Speaking of the automated manual transmissions, these gearboxes facilitate manual gear changes by pressing the clutch pedal at the same time as changing gears with the usage of electronic sensors, pneumatics, processors and actuators. Adding to their popularity is the fact that these gearboxes aren’t too costly over manual counterparts, thus making them quite value for money.

In this story, we are going to throw some light on all the cars in the Indian market which are available with the choice of automated manual transmission, popularly known as AMT. Here we go:-

Pre Bookings For The Nissan Terrano AMT Variant Commences From Today

Pre Bookings For The Nissan Terrano AMT Variant Commences From Today

Apart from the new transmission the Terrano range has recieved 14 new enhancements

Nissan India today started taking pre bookings for their soon to be launched Nissan Terrano AMT variant. Like we already mentioned in our last post of the Nissan Terrano that the 6 speed automatic transmission will be available only with the top-of-the-line XVD Premium grade.

This came as quite a surprise to us because wile Renault offers the AMT variant with the mid variant Nissan has decided to offer it only with the top end grade. So the same 6 speed Advanced AMT (Automated Manual Transmission) is paired to the 1.5-litre diesel engine which is capable of producing about 110 Ps of peak power and 248 Nm of torque. The addition of the new gearbox will help make driving the SUV much easier specially in the city traffic as well on the highways. For the drivers assistance the drive the AMT variant further benefits from Hill Assist Control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) for added traction and safety.

Besides the new gearbox the AMT variant also gets a total of 14 new enhancements which is spread across its model variant. These enhancements includes folding exterior rear view mirrors with integrated turn signals, anti-pinch driver side windows, a new driver armrest, soft touch plastics on the dashboard, and door trim.

Besides all these the compact SUV also gets a completely new body colour in the form of Sandstone Brown. The ARAI rated fuel efficiency of the new AMT variant stands at 19.61kmpl.

The Nissan Terrano AMT variant will be priced in between INR. 13.75 – 13.85 lakh range, ex-showroom, Delhi.

Nissan Terrano AMT Variant Teased Ahead Of Its Official Launch

Nissan Terrano AMT Variant Teased Ahead Of Its Official Launch

The AMT variant will be available with the top end 110 Ps variant only

Nissan India has teased their upcoming Terrano AMT variant on their social media pages including twitter and facebook.

Renault not so long ago updated their Duster compact SUV and also added the 6-speed Easy-R AMT transmission to the Duster lineup. The ZF sourced gearbox is made available only with the top end 1.5 Litre 110 Ps diesel unit. Now because both these SUV’s share the same platform as well as the engines, expect Nissan too to equip the 6 speed AMT gearbox with the top end variant as well.

The Terrano will definitely get few mechanical updates on their AMT variant but do not expect any cosmetic changes though. Expect the new 6-speed Easy-R AMT gearbox to be paired with the 1.5 Litre K9K four-cylinder diesel engine which develops around 110 PS of peak power and 248 Nm of torque. The diesel unit promises to return around 19.64 km/l of fuel which will remain unchanged even after the addition of the new automated gearbox.

What we are also excited about is the fact that because Renault has introduced the CMO10 & T4 E&E (Engine and Electronics) architecture when they launched the updated Duster SUV in March 2016. Hopefully Nissan too will walk in the same path and introduce the same engine and electronics architecture in the Terrano as well which will lead to better handling and performance.

The Terrano AMT variant will definitely help Nissan to garner some attention during the festive season. Expect the AMT variant to be priced slightly higher than the manual variant.

Rumor mill: Nissan Terrano to get Duster like AMT

Rumor mill: Nissan Terrano to get Duster like AMT

Nissan might launch a facelift Terrano at late 2016

Renault recently launched the all new facelift Duster with several cosmetic changes and an Easy-R AMT gearbox. Nissan Terrano, being almost identical to the Duster in many ways is not popular as the Renault Duster is. Now, we have heard the Terrano might get a facelift, and in that case it has every chance to receive an Easy-R AMT gearbox as well.

The Terrano is available in single 1.6 litre petrol and dual diesel variants. The diesel variants are available in differently tuned 1.5 litre DCi units. The diesel units produce 85 PS and 110 PS peak power respectively. The facelift Terrano might get launched in the market around late 2016, and the diesel variants would get the AMT gearbox. It might also get an AWD variant. No wonder a diesel compact SUV with automatic transmission and that too with an All Wheel Drive (AWD) system will attract many customers.

Compare to the Renault Duster the Nissan Terrano seems pretty much outdated. Inside the cabin, the new Duster gets plenty of features, while the Terrano adorns some poor features. It doesn’t come with a touchscreen infotainment screen, automatic climate control and various other features. Therefore we can expect the facelift Terrano to get these features as standard inside the cabin.

Hyundai Creta offered first diesel automatic in the compact SUV segment of Indian automobile market. Equipping the Terrano with an AMT gearbox and all these features would surely take the game one notch up.

2013 Nissan Terrano

After months of prototype testing and teasing, Nissan (in alliance with Renault) has finally launched the much awaited Nissan Terrano in a blockbuster fashion. What exactly is the Nissan Terrano? Well, it is what a Duster would’ve looked if Nissan had designed it.

Nissan had already revealed some sketches of the Terrano earlier and, thankfully, they stuck to it. For those of you who aren’t aware of it, the Terrano isn’t actually a new kid in the block. The nameplate was first seen way back in the year 1986 that embraced fame internationally. But, later the name was changed to Pathfinder, that is currently in other markets. For this SUV however, Nissan finally decided to resurrect the Terrano name. We’re happy that the Terrano will also join the Micra and the Sunny in local production, helping keep costs down and promote Indian-made articles. Nissan also plans to export the Terrano to International market, like it does for the Micra .

Already interested? Well, sadly, they haven’t announced the prices of the variants that it will offer but they did confirm that it will go on sale from October across India and the Pre-sales bookings will start from September 1st onwards.

Both the 85PS Petrol and Diesel engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox whereas the 110PS diesel gets a 6-speed manual transmission. Prices starts at Rs.9.58 lakhs(ex showroom Chennai).
