Compact hatchback segment is surely the most popular, crowded and also the competitive segment in Indian automobile market. Indians love small cars. We want maximum out of the compact small boxes called hatchbacks. In the growing competitive segment, Nissan Micra tried to bring some fresh air around half a decade ago. Now with so many competitors and fresh designs around it, the Nissan Micra is all due for a major change.
Recently a heavily camouflaged Nissan Micra test mule was spotted. The new Nissan Micra sports a radically aggressive design. When Nissan showcased the Sway concept at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, it gave us a preview of the next generation Nissan Micra. The test mule we have seen in the spyshots look exactly like the Sway concept. Now the next generation Nissan Micra test mule has been spotted, expect the car to reach the market next year. Meanwhile we have a rendered image by our designer which gives the speculative idea of the upcoming hatch.
Now that the car is finally unveiled infront of the public we are pretty sure that it will definitely turn some heads. This new hatchback is wider, and longer than its predecessor which definitely has resulted in more interior space as well. The hatchback also gets a completely new drivetrain and also an agile chassis.

FIRST OFFICIAL TEASER IMAGE OF THE NISSAN MICRA
Nissan has teased the new gen MIcra and from what it looks like Nissan has taken the exterior styling inspiration from the Sway concept.

Nissan is claiming that the next generation Micra is revolutionary. The hatchback stays true to the Sway concept..Towards the front the hatchback gets signature design cues with distinctive V motion grille. There is a sharp character line which starts from the grille and ends towards the rear profile of the hatchback. Towards the rear profile the hatchback features boomerang shaped taillamps. The blacked out B pillar does add a floating roof effect to the Micra.
Some other highlights of the hatchback includes door handles hidden in the C-Pillar. While the extended roofline also acts as the rear spoiler giving it a sporty appeal. The extended rear spoiler does promise to add the hatchbacks performance and aloso aesthetics.The new Micra is also made available with 10 color options as well.
While the India spec Nissan Micra would be built on the same V platform. The European Micra on the other hand will be built on Nissan-Renault CMF-B platform.

Inside things looks equally interesting and modern at the same time. The 5th Generation Micra’s cabin is also bigger and wider than its predecessor thanks to the new platform and widened body form. The new cabin gets a completely new gliding wing shaped dashboard which actually gives the cabin a sleek and spacious feel.The new hatchback also gets plenty of premium touches as well including a Bose speaker system inside the car. For the entertainment of the passengers the new dashboard also houses 7-inch full colour central display which gets integrated with the to the audio system, satellite navigation, mobile phone, downloadable apps and Siri voice control via Apple CarPlay.
The multifunctional sporty steering wheel too looks good, while the duel pod instrument cluster with the digital screen in between too looks quite upmarket.
Nissan has kept the engine efficiency in mind and equipped the new Micra with a newly devloped 9.0 Litre, turbocharged, three cylinder petrol unit which is capable of poducing about 90 Hp of peak power. The diesel variant on the other hand gets the 1.5 Litre unit which too is capable of producing about 90 Ps of peak power. While later Nissan also has plans to introduce a 1.0 Litre petrol unit as well which will produce about 73 bhp of peak power. The engines will be paired to manual transmission but there will also be option of CVT transmission as well.
Presently the Nissan Micra gets power from a 1.2 litre DOHC petrol unit mated to a 5 speed manual transmission churning out 76 PS peak power. On the diesel front the Micra comes with a 1.5 litre SOHC unit under the hood paired with 5 speed manual transmission and produces 64 PS peak power.
The new Nissan Micra is also offered with Active Ride Control which provides an enhanced ride comfort. and also an active trace control for reduced understeer as well.

The New Gen Nissan Micra gets plenty of safety features as well which includes Lane Departure Prevention which is first for its segment, intelligent emergency braking with pedestrian recognition. The rest of the safety features also includes intelligent around View Monitor, Traffic Sign Recognition, High Beam Assist and also Blind Spot Warning.
Nissan Micra in India comes with price tags ranging between INR. 5.9 lakh to INR. 7.7 lakh, depending on the variants. Expect the next generation Micra to come higher priced.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno could be a potential competitor against the upcoming Nissan Micra. The petrol variant is available with a 1.2 litre engine mated to a 5 speed manual transmission under the hood, while the diesel variant gets power from a 1.3 litre unit under the hood paired with a 5 speed manual gear box.
The all new generation Micra will arrive in European showrooms by March 2017 and offcours! It will also make its grand entry into the Indian market as well by the 2017 end or early 2018. The new Micra definitely is a revolutionary car which will help carry the Micra barnd forward which has been here for the past 30 years or so.
The new striking design, refreshed and premium interiors, downsized drivetrains, agile chassis and innovative safety features makes this new B-segment hatchback a tough rival.
