There is no doubt in the fact that the Innova MPV has always been one important product for Toyota in India. The previous generation people mover was a hit amongst the people and so is the new generation which was first showcased infront of the Indian public at the 2016 Auto expo. Quite honestly the Innova is the only car after Fortuner which has helped Toyota to cement its place in the Indian market.
The new generation Innova which was launched in the Indian market dubbed as the Innova Crysta was launched with two diesel engine options only but now after few months of its launch Toyota has decided to introduce the petrol variant as well. The petrol variant of the MPV was recently spotted courtesy Gaadiwaadi. The new Innova Crysta petrol will be powered by 2.7 Litre, four cylinder dual VVT-i motor which will develop around 166 ps of peak power and 245 nm of torque. This new engine will be offered with both six speed manual as well as an automatic transmission at the same time.
The petrol equipped variants will help Toyota to sell the new generation Innova in markets like Delhi and NCR regions where there is a ban on diesel motor above 2.0 Liter. The introduction of petrol engine will help boost the sales of the new Innova even more and that is the reason why Toyota has introduced the new petrol motor sooner than expected.
Expect the manual transmission to be available with GX and VX grades while the automatic petrol variant will be available with top end variants like GX and ZX grades.
Apart from the petrol engine the diesel engine which is currently available under the hood of the Innova Crysta includes a smaller 2.4 Litre unit capable of producing about 150 Ps of peak power and 343 Nm of torque. The other more powerful engine on offer is the 2.8 Liter unit which churns out about 174 Ps of peak power and 360 Nm of torque. The engines are paired to a 6 speed manual or a 6 speed automatic gearbox with sequential shifts.
