Hyundai officials now actually have decided to officially launch the production variant by 2019. The reports also suggest that Hyundai has already started working on their new sub 4 meter SUV. Codenamed QXi, this compact SUV when launched will be positioned below the Creta and will take on the Ford Ecosport, Vitara Brezza and the upcoming Tata Nexon SUV.
The Carlino concept surely did pick lot of interest at the Auto show and keeping the current Indian automotive scenario in mind there is no denying in the fact that the compact SUV segment surely has become the most competitive segment of the Country with so many worthy competitors from different manufacturer. The Carlino will be a sub 4 meter offering which means that it will enjoy the excise duty benefits from the Government.

The Carlino concept showcased at the Auto expo surely looked boxy which is usually not what we notice in other Hyundai cars. Hyundai surely will add more practical touches to it when the car takes shape. But expect it to get sharp headlamps towards the front and hexagonal shaped grille with the Hyundai logo. The front bumper too will be designed aggressively as well. The side profile might share some of its styling cues with the Creta expect it to get raised ground clearance and also blacked out B pillar which should add the premium look to the SUV.
Expect the new Carlino to get a completely new interior however it might share some of its parts with the slightly bigger Creta. As far as the comfort features are concerned expect it to get a touchscreen infotainment system which might get Apple car play or Android Auto system. The driver seat should be height adjustable. As far as the interior space is concerned expect it to deliver comfortable seating for 3 persons at the rear. Apart from that the production variant of the compact SUV should also have an impressive boot space at the rear as well.
The best thing about this upcoming compact SUV will be that it will be available with both diesel and petrol engine options under its hood. The petrol variant will most probably be powered by 1.0 Litre, four cylinder turbo petrol motor which will be capable of producing about 118 bhp of peak power and around 150 Nm of torque. This engine will be paired to a 5 speed gearbox while there will also be ana automatic gearbox on offer as well.
The diesel variant on the other hand will be powered by the 1.4 litre U2 CRDi unit which actually also powers the Creta SUV as well. Expect this engine to produce around 90 ps of peak power and 220+ Nm of torque. This engine will be paired to a 5 speed gearbox as well.
Although this SUV will be launched almost after 3 years still expect it to be priced in between INR. 7-10 lakh mark.

This too is one of the most anticipated compact SUV of the Indian market. The Nexon when launched will get the same 1.2 Litre Revotron unit that powers the Tata Tiago which will be capable of producing around 88 hp of peak power and about 140 Nm of torque while the diesel variant will most probably get the 1.5 Litre unit.
Ford will also introduce the facelift Ecosport in India next year. The compact SUv was already unveiled infront of the world. For the Indian market Ford will retain the same 1.5 Litre petrol and the 1.0 Litre petrol unit while the diesel variant will get the 1.5 Litre unit. The SUV is available with 5 speed, 6 speed manual transmission.
