It seems like Mahindra now wants to enter deeper water and according to the recent reports the home grown auto manufacturer are now planning to launch a completely new SUV. Their upcoming SUV will also be their flagship offering and will be positioned above their current SUV offering the XUV500.
The all new SUV will be the production variant of the next generation Rexton which was showcased as LIV-2 concept at the 2016 Paris Motor show. Codenamed as Y400 the SUV showcased was actually a full sized SUV. The new SUV which was showcased was the next generation Rexton but the production variant will be rebadged and sold with the Mahindra nameplate in India. The new SUV will be based on body on frame chassis and will provide seating for 7 passengers inside.
The reports also states that M&M also plans to gain more advantage over the other SUV’s of its segment by equipping the SUV with best in class features. The LIV2 concept which was showcased at the Paris Motor show was equipped with plenty of premium features like a huge infotainment screen on the dashboard which gets plenty of features like Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. There are different screens for the rear seat passengers as well and through the rear console the passengers can even control the front infotainment system as well. The concept variant was equipped with captain seats; some other features might also include mood lighting inside the cabin.
For the safety of the passengers inside one can expect atleast nine airbags for inside while the top end production variant might also receive an advanced emergency braking system.
AS far as the drivetrains are concerned, the flagship SUV will get the 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which will produces around 225 hp and 349 Nm of torque. While the 2.2-litre turbocharged diesel engine is expected to develop around 184 hp of peak power and 420 Nm of torque. The transmission choices for the petrol model will be 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. The diesel model on the other hand will get the 6 speed manual as well as an optional 7 speed automatic transmission. Expect the rebadged Mahindra variant to get the diesel variant initially while a petrol unit will be introduced later.
You can expect the rebadged SUV to be priced quite aggressively and thus it might undercut the Toyota Fortuner prices by few lakhs. The rebadged SUV will mostly be called Mahindra XUV700 and will also receive some of its own styling tweaks as well. This SUV will be their flagship offering for the Indian market and will be launched towards this year end or early next year.
