Lotus commemorates Senna’s anniversary with special Lotus Esprit
18 years ago Formula 1 legend Ayrton Senna tragically died at the San Marino GP. The three time world champion was considered one of the most naturally gifted drivers of all time. German car customizer Cam Shaft, on the anniversary of Senna’s death has decided to honour this tragic anniversary with a special edition Lotus. This isn’t any other Lotus but a Giugiaro-designed V8 Esprit. The exteriors of the car feature John Player logos and a reproduced gold signature from the driver. It also uses a gold number 12 on the side which is Senna’s race number. If you are a Senna fan then we suggest you immediately order the rather brilliant film Senna if you don’t already have it.
Senna drove for the Lotus team from 1985 to 1987 in the famous black and gold John Player livery. Instead of using the original 4 cylinder Esprit engine, Cam Shaft has used a turbocharged V8. The Esprit uses 495PS and reaches 100kmph 4.3 seconds with a top speed of 305kmph. The engine uses a 6 speed gearbox and has upgraded the brakes with AP Racing four-pot callipers.
The original Lotus Esprit was built from 1976 to 2003 and remains the only production model of the Lotus to use a V8 engine.
