It has earned several titles earlier. Enzo Ferrari called it as, "The most beautiful car ever made." In 2008 The Daily Telegraph placed it at the top of "World’s 100 most beautiful cars of all time” list. In 2011 Jeremy Clarkson called it as the “Essence of British brilliance”. Now in one worldwide polling campaign, Jaguar E-type earned the award of “Best British car ever made”. Among several other iconic cars like McLaren F1, Mini, Bentley Speed Six, Rolls Royce Silver Ghost, Range Rover and Jaguar XKSS the stunningly gorgeous E-type garnered most votes.

Jaguar E-type is one of the iconic cars of all time in the world automotive history. It was manufactured in between 1961-1975, and while most of the contemporary cars used to come with features like drum brakes, live rear axles, and not so impressive mediocre performances; E-type shot into fame with monocoque construction, disc brakes, rack and pinion steering, independent front and rear suspension set up and unbelievably beautiful design. It debuted with a stunning 242 kmph top speed and ability to reach 0-100 kmph within sub 7 seconds. It the predecessor of the present day beauty Jaguar F-type.

Although Jaguar originally intended to make the E-type exclusively as a racecar, but it quickly developed into a road-going grand tourer and sports car with an open 2 seater or fixed head coupe on offer.

It was officially unveiled at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show and became an instant hit among car lovers worldwide. One of the display cars featuring on the show stand in 1961 was an open top version of the iconic sports car 77 RW. It was driven almost nonstop from Coventry to Geneva by Jaguar’s legendary test driver, Norman Dewis OBE. Such a feat nearly 55 years ago was sort of unbelievable. E-type became so popular, that it attracted several celebrities like Steve McQueen, George Best, Sir Jackie Stewart, Brigitte Bardot and Frank Sinatra.

James Elliott, the group editor of Classic & Sports Car magazine has truly complemented the E-type; "The E-type has it all, looks to stop traffic even today and a driving experience that has stood the test of time. More importantly than that, though, was that at the time you could not have bought more style and performance for the price. It is a car that seduces young and old and is a very worthy winner and rightly the Best British Car Ever."
