Tata Motors today commenced the media drive for their soon to be launched compact sedan Tigor. The Tigor is the sedan variant based on their popular Tiago hatchback, and it will be launched in India officially on 29th March.
The Tigor is production variant of the Kite5 concept car which was showcased at the 2016 Auto expo, New Delhi. Tata Motors is calling it a fastback instead of a regular sedan because they don’t want the car just be called the Tiago hatchback with a new boot. That is also the reason why Tata Motors has given the Tigor a fastback like a roofline which sweeps down beautifully towards the rear profile and blends perfectly with the rear profile, this designing can only be seen in some premium sedans.
The Tata Motors Tigor although is based on the same XO platform which underpins the Tiago hatch but it has an extended wheelbase than the regular hatchback. The extended wheelbase has resulted in slightly more rear legroom. Furthermore, the front seats of the sedan have also has been redesigned to generate more leg room. The Tiago also has a boot space of 419 Litres.
Under the hood, the Tiago hatchback will get the same 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine which produces about 85 PS of peak power at 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. The diesel variant, on the other hand, gets the 1.05-litre Revotorq three-cylinder diesel engine which produces about 70 PS of peak power at 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1,800 rpm and 3,000 rpm. Both the engines paired to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard. However, Tata Motors might introduce the AMT gearbox with the top end petrol variant during the time of its launch.
If we talk about interior features then the Tigor style back gets an Automatic climate control, multi function steering wheel, ConnectNext touchscreen infotainment system with bigger screen, this system also gets voice command recognition.
For the safety of the passengers inside the Tigor compact sedan will come equipped with dual airbags for the driver and front passenger along with ABS and EBD.
The Tata Tigor, when launched, will compete directly with the Ford Figo Aspire, Honda Amaze and the Hyundai Xcent.
