They already have unveiled their first India made product yesterday infront of the media and also have revealed its specs and other details. Now according to the recent reports by Autocar India Jeep also have plans to introduce their entry level product for the International market in India as well.
Called the Renegade this is the smallest offering from Jeep for some International markets and is actually based on the same platform as the new Compass SUV. The good thing is that the Renegade is smaller in size than the Compass and will be more affordable than the former SUV as well. The car was spotted being tested on the Indian roads couple of times which furthermore strengthens the fact that Jeep might consider launching it here as well.
Below provided are 5 quick points that you should know about Jeep’s upcoming entry level product after the Compass
The Renegade will most probably also be manufactured locally at FCA’s Ranjangaon production facility. It will share the same platform with the Compass SUV. While under the hood it will most probably also share the same drivetrains with the Compass SUV which will obviously be available in a different state of tune.
The Jeep Renegade once launched will compete with the likes of the Duster, Creta and the Mahindra XUV500. However to live up to the Jeep’s offroading name the Compass SUV will get both 4X2 wheel drive for the lower trims while the top end trims will receive the 4X4 wheel drive options as well.
Engine options for the upcoming Renegade compact SUV will include the 2.0-litre MultiJet diesel engine developing around 140hp of peak power. There will also be a 1.4-litre MultiAir petrol motor on offer as well which too will also produce around the same amount of power. The diesel variant might also get a smaller 1.6 Litre unit which currently powers the Suzuki S-Cross.
The biggest advantage of the Renegade for the Indian market could be its handy size which will make the SUV maneuverable in both city traffic and on and off the tarmac as well. As far as the styling is concerned the Renegade SUV takes some of its styling inspiration from the Wrangler SUV, it has a mix of modern as well as retro styling. Inside the cabin expect the Renegade to get flexible cargo space and plenty of modern types of equipment like a touchscreen infotainment system and sunroof available with the top end trim.
Expect the Jeep Renegade to launch towards the end of 2018 or early 2019 after the Compass SUV is launched in our market.
