Mercedes Benz is the most affected luxury automaker by Delhi diesel ban

Delhi and NCR is the place where most of the luxury cars can be seen in entire India. Being a diesel loving country the customers based in Delhi and NCR also love to buy diesel based luxury cars. And one more thing is, when it is about cars, we Indians love the SUVs. Now coming to our topic today the luxury SUVs in India has taken a toll recently.

The Delhi government imposed a ban on the 2000 cc and above diesel engine capacitated cars in the national capital region. Due to the large diesel engine no cars carrying 2000 cc and above diesel engines are allowed for registration in Delhi and NCR. Therefore the luxury auto manufacturers present in India has suffered a major sales decline, as this region itself comes with a large customer base for these companies. Three German luxury automaker – Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz are at the forefront of the affected automakers due to the ban in the region. Among these three auto manufacturers, Mercedes Benz has suffered the biggest blow, as the company is the best sold brand in the region, and a large number of their cars are capacitated with 2000 cc or larger diesel engines.

Here, we will take a close look at the luxury SUVs which have been affected by the diesel ban in Delhi and NCR.

MERCEDES BENZ GL

Mercedes Benz GL Class is a chunky looking luxury SUV available in India. The car is powered by a large 3.0 litre V6 engine. The engine is capable to churn out 254 hp of peak power at 3600 rpm and 619 Nm of peak torque between 1600 rpm to 2400 rpm. The transmission duty is done by a 7G-TRONIC automatic gearbox. The car can reach 0 – 100 kmph in just 7.9 seconds, while the top speed for this car is 220 kmph.

The 7 seater luxury SUV looks beefy and muscular with its boxy design. The front grille gets two chrome slats with the three star logo sitting at the centre between them. At the lower profile the car features a large air intake. The headlamp clusters look compact and featuring powerful LED headlamps. At the lower profile at both ends the car sports large air dams with horizontal LED daytime running lights. Apart from that Mercedes Benz GL Class features flared wheel arches, sporty and bold alloy wheels, blackened glass area, roof rail, large taillamps etc.

MERCEDES BENZ GLA

Mercedes Benz GLA is a compact luxury crossover from the German auto manufacturer. The beautifully designed stylish car looks beefy and muscular with its powerful appearance. Although this car is available with a 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine, the 2.2 litre diesel engine is more popular unit. Paired with a 7G-DCT dual clutch automatic transmission the engine generates 136 hp of peak power between 3400 rpm to 4000 rpm and 300 Nm of peak torque between 1400 rpm to 3000 rpm.

With one close look at the car it reminds us about the A Class luxury hatchback, but with distinctive characteristics. The car features sharp headlamp clusters with bi-xenon headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The larger front grille sports dual chrome slats with three pointed star sitting at the centre. Apart from that this car also features aluminium garnished wide air intake, vertically positioned aid dams, skid plate, side sills, bold alloy wheels, muscular looking body cladding aluminium roof rails, roof spoiler, rear diffuser with wider rectangular shaped exhaust vents and LED taillamps.

AUDI Q7

Being one of the three luxury automaker in India Audi plays a major role in Indian automotive market. The Q7 from the company is a very popular luxury SUV in the country, more than its smaller sibling Q5. The Audi Q7 facelift was launched last year in November. It is powered by a range of powertrains, which include both the petrol and diesel engines. The diesel engine is a 3.0 TDI engine paired with an 8 speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox. The engine churns out 268 hp of peak power and massive 600 Nm of peak torque. Power is sent to all the four wheels through Audi Quattro AWD system.

Audi Q7 is the automaker’s flagship model in the Q lineup. It features a muscular yet very sharply stylish design. BMW has been a major player in Indian market for quite some time. Recently the company has become the top selling luxury automotive brand in the country. The BMW X5 is a luxury SUV with a very masculine stance. The X5 is powered by a 3.0 litre in line diesel engine with BMW Twin power turbo technology. This engine is mated to an 8 speed automatic gearbox and churns out 254 hp of peak power at 4000 rpm and 560 Nm of peak torque between 15000 rpm to 3000 rpm. The car accelerates 0 – 100 kmph in 6.9 seconds with top speed 230 kmph.

The BMW X5 features signature BMW kidney grille with vertical chrome garnished slats, the sleek headlamp clusters sport twin corona shaped ring headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The front bumper looks chunky with large air intake, upper positioned fog lamps, large air dams at both sides, and skid plate. The side profile also looks muscular with bold alloy wheels, sharp cuts and creases, side sills, roof rails, chrome bordering around the glass area.

LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER EVOQUE

The Range Rover Evoque has been one very important product from the Land Rover. The British marquee has a strong customer base in Delhi and NCR. The Range Rover Evoque in India gets power from a 2.2 litre diesel engine which is mated to a 9 speed automatic gearbox, and kicks out 189 hp of peak power and 420 Nm of peak torque.

The Range Rover has been designed in a very stylish way. The car sports sleek wrap around headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The front grille looks compact yet aggressive, while the tip of the hood comes with the Range Rover lettering.
