2016 New Delhi Auto Expo: Visitor’s guide
In the season of festivities, we the petrolheads have reason to rejoice again, as in a few days 2016 edition of the Indian Auto Expo will be organized at New Delhi from 5th to 9th February, 2016. This is certainly the biggest automobile convention of Asia, organized by Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures (SIAM) jointly with the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) the 2016 edition of the prestigious biennial event will be bigger and better.
More than 65 automobile brands including Indian and international companies, are expected to showcase their exciting car models in the 13th edition of the event. Incidentally, in 2014 nearly 55 brands showcased their products at the event. Sadly, there will be few major brands missing this time. We will get to see some exciting new models, some new launches including world launches and hopefully a few concepts at the upcoming event.
The organizers are expecting more than 6 lakh footfall at the India Exposition Mart Ltd (IEML) in Greater Noida, resulting a 20% rise in the number of visitors. The total floor space for the event has been increased by 37240 square metres with six completely new air conditioned halls, alongside the already available eight halls, resulting the total floor space to around 79000 square metres.

Official business hours are 10 am to 1 pm on weekdays; while general visitors can visit the show from 1 pm to 6 pm on weekdays, and 10 am to 7 pm on weekends. On the closing day of the event, on 9th February the show will be open for the public visitors till 5 pm. Public visitors cannot enter the show during business hours, but business hour ticket holders can enter during public hour and visit the show till 6 pm.

In 2016 Auto Expo there will be a total of 14 air conditioned large halls compare to previous edition’s 8 halls. The entire event will be organized on a total floor space of around 79000 square metres after an expansion of 37240 square metres recently.
The food court gets an extra 1000 square metre floor space, where there will be around 60 food stalls, 20 food kiosks and several food trucks. There will be several local restaurants and international brands offering variety of cuisines to the visitors. As we have heard, there might be two restaurants run by the Taj and Radisson Hotels. There will be Wi-Fi coverage at the venue. Several telecom operators are asked to provide special network coverage.
HOW TO GET THERE

Visitors will be able to access the Auto Expo through six entry points where CISF will be handling the security. Free shuttle services will be available from the nearest Botanical Gardens metro station. Visitors can access the Expo mart from Noida city centre and Pragati Maidan via more than 160 DTC busses on service. There will be a dedicated Smartphone app available for the 2016 Auto Expo.

Ticket price for general public for weekdays are INR. 300 and INR. 400 for weekends. Business hours tickets are priced at INR. 650. Free home delivery is offered to those who book 3 to 10 tickets before 31st December, 2015. Those, who book tickets after 31st December, will have to pay extra INR. 75 per tickets as home delivery charges. Those who book tickets online after 25th January, 2016 will not be eligible for home delivery. Ticket delivery starts 25th January, 2016 onwards. Visitors can collect tickets from the counters at the parking lots near the Expo venue.
BRANDS TO WATCH
More than 65 car brands will showcase their products in the upcoming event compare to 55 brands in 2014 Auto Expo. There will be major international four wheeler brands like Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Datsun, Fiat aka FCA, Ford, Honda, Hyundai, Isuzu, Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, Renault, Revolta, Toyota, Volkswagen, while Indian big players like Force Motors, Mahindra & Mahindra, Maruti Suzuki, and Tata Motors will represent the country’s auto makers. There are speculations that, global luxury brands like Aston Martin, Bentley, Jeep and Maserati might showcase their products at the upcoming Auto Expo; and if they do, it will certainly mark their India debut. In the two wheeler segment there will be big players like DSK, Hero, Honda, Piaggio, Suzuki, Triumph, TVS, UM and Yamaha. Commercial vehicle makers like Ashok Leyland, Mahindra & Mahindra, Scania, SML Isuzu, Tata Motors, VE aka Eicher will also be present there to showcase their product lineup.

CAR LAUNCHES TO WATCH
Like the 2014 edition, this time too, there will be several car launches we are about to experience at the 2016 New Delhi Auto Expo. Some of them have been the subject of discussion for long time. So, what are those? Let’s check out.
At the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo, the popular German automaker is expected to showcase their next generation B9 A4 luxury sedan which is manufactured on the MLB Evo platform. The launch of this car is expected shortly after the 2016 Auto Expo, Audi will launch the car in India. This car is 120 kg lighter than the previous model, and it adorns new features like Matrix LED headlights, virtual cockpit etc. Although the new A4 boasts 3 TFSI and 4 TDI engine options, but the Indian spec model will get power from a 2.0 litre TFSI in the petrol segment and a 2.0 litre TDI in the diesel segment. The 2.0 litre TFSI 4 cylinder turbocharged engine paired with 7 speed S-Tronic transmission is capable to churn out 256 PS peak power and 370 Nm peak torque. It can reach 0-100 kmph in 5.8 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph. The 2.0 Litre TDI 4 cylinder turbocharged unit mated to a 7 speed S-Tronic transmission will produce 152 PS peak power and 320 Nm peak torque. It can reach 0-100 kmph in 8.7 seconds with a top speed of 219 kmph.

Audi is also expected to showcase the next generation R8 at the upcoming automotive event in February. Based on the spaceframe chassis, this car is powered by two different powertrain options. The 5.2 litre V10 engine churns out 548 PS peak power and 540 Nm peak torque, with capability to reach 0-100 kmph in 3.5 seconds. On the other hand a tuned version of the V10 engine delivers better performance by producing 619 PS peak power and 560 Nm peak torque with the capability to reach 0-100 kmph in 3.2 seconds.

BMW 7 Series has always been one of the flagship luxury sedans from the Bavarian auto giant since 1977. BMW is gearing up to launch the sixth generation 7 Series, which is direct rival against the Mercedes Benz S-Class. India bound sixth generation 7 Series 740 Li will get power from 3.0 litre inline twin turbo engine generating 243.32 PS peak power and 450 Nm peak torque. It can reach 0-100 kmph in 5.5 seconds with top speed of 250 kmph. There is a 3.0 litre inline twin turbo diesel unit too, which churns out 197.70 PS peak power and 620 Nm peak torque. This variant is a bit heavier; therefore it reaches 0-100 kmph in 6.2 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph.

BMW India has already confirmed that their next generation luxury SUV X1 will make its India debut at the upcoming Auto Expo. It gets power from three petrol and three diesel engine options. The petrol options are differently tuned 2.0 litre 4 cylinder inline twin turbo engines capable to produce 234 PS, 195 PS peak power; while the torque amount stand at 350 Nm and 280 Nm respectively. In the diesel segment differently tuned 2.0 litre 4 cylinder inline twin turbo engines do the duty. These engines are capable to produce 234 PS, 193 PS and 152 PS peak power and peak torque amount of 450 Nm, 400 Nm and 330 Nm respectively.

Spin is the American automaker Chevrolet’s offering in the MPV segment of Indian market. General Motors is trying to get a strong foothold in the Indian market with their range of vehicles. They are expected to showcase the next generation Spin MPV at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo. The butch looking large and spacious MPV gets power from a 1.3 liter DOHC 4 cylinder Common Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) turbo diesel engine while the petrol variant gets the 1.5 liter 4 cylinder DOHC 16 Valve dual petrol motor under the hood, which produces 75 PS and 109 PS peak power respectively, while the peak torque amount stands at 190 Nm and 141 Nm respectively. The diesel variant gets a 5 speed manual transmission while the petrol variant gets the 6 speed Automatic transmission.

Datsun showcased their Redi Go concept compact car in 2014 Auto Expo. Now they are expected to unveil the production ready version of the Redi Go based compact SUV at the 2016 Auto Expo. The compact crossover SUV looks really attractive. Post launch it will give tough competition to the cars like Renault Duster and Ford Ecosport.

We have already seen the Datsun Redi Go concept model earlier, and now Datsun is all set to launch the production model of the Redi Go, which will be the smallest and most affordable model from the brand. Although there is no information available about the powertrain of this car, but it would probably get a 1.2 litre petrol engine under the hood, which will be mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox. This powertrain produces 70 PS peak power and 98 Nm peak torque.

Fiat Aegea sedan replace the Fiat Linea when launched in India. It will get power from two Multijet II turbo diesel engines and two petrol engines which will be powerful as well as fuel efficient at the same time. Both these engines will be mated to either a manual or automatic transmission. The power output of these engines will be in between 97 PS to 122 PS.

Ford Endeavour has been one large SUV in Indian market for long time. Not popular like the Toyota Fortuner, but Ford has restyled this car and bringing the latest generation of Endeavour in form of Ford Everest. New Endeavour looks lot sharper and stylish than the outgoing version. The butch looking SUV has received several styling updates at exterior and inside the cabin as well. In India the new Endeavour will probably see only two powertrains. The 2.2 litre Duratorq 4 cylinder TDCi diesel unit will be the latest offering under the hood, while the old 3.0 litre TDCi diesel unit producing 150 PS peak power and 380 Nm peak torque will be retained. The transmission duties will be done by a 6 speed manual gearbox alongside an optional automatic gearbox.

Ford Mustang has been one of the iconic cars of all time. The American beast has been featured in several films, and we loved the car because of its sheer power and stunning performance. Next generation Mustang will be brought to India by Ford and it will get power from three different powertrain options. The Base model will be powered by 3.7 litre V6 engine churning out 304 PS peak power and 366 Nm peak torque. The other units include 2.3 litre I-4 turbocharged engine, which produces 309 PS peak power and 407 Nm peak torque, while there will be a bigger 5.0 litre V8 engine delivering 426 PS peak power and enormous 529 Nm peak torque.

Honda BR-V is the latest offering in form of a compact SUV from the Japanese auto giant. It sports a muscular heavy look. The BR-V gets its power from a 1.5 litre SOHC 4 cylinder 16 valve i-VTEC engine, mated to either a 6 speed manual gearbox or a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) transmission with Earth Dream technology. The BR-V S is the base variant which gets the 6 speed manual transmission, while the BR-V E is available in both manual and CVT option. The top end variant BR-V Prestige gets CVT only. The powertrain is capable to churn out 120 PS peak power at 6600 rpm, while the peak torque output is 145 Nm at 4600 rpm. We have heard that, Honda is considering a 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel engine for Indian market.

Honda Accord is a very popular midsize sedan around the globe since long time. The next generation Honda Accord will go on sale from next year. Before that the Japanese auto giant will showcase the next generation Accord at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo. The new Accord is offered in two different powertrain options. There is a 2.4 litre 4 cylinder i-VTEC engine mated to either a 6 speed manual or a CVT transmission. This powertrain produces 188 PS peak power and 245 Nm peak torque. There is larger engine available, in form of a 3.5 litre VTEC V6 paired with either 6 speed manual or 6 speed automatic gearbox, churning out 282 PS peak power and 342 Nm peak torque. The V6 is a subject of consideration for Indian market albeit.

In 2014 Auto Expo Jaguar showcased C-X17 concept, which paved the way for the Jaguar F-Pace SUV, the “ultimate practical sports car”. The first crossover SUV from Jaguar gets power from a 2.0 litre diesel engine mated to either manual or automatic transmission, churning out 240 PS peak power, while the 3.0 litre supercharged V6 engine is paired with an 8 speed automatic gearbox will kick out 380 PS. There will be another 3.0 litre V6 variant which will kick out 300 PS peak power and 710 Nm peak torque. F-Pace will come equipped with both rear wheel drives and AWD options.

British luxury auto maker Jaguar will launch their luxury sedan and eventually the cheapest offering in India Jaguar XE. The lightweight aluminium intensive monocoque body frame built sedan will get power from a 3.0 litre 6 cylinder all aluminum twin vortex supercharger engine, mated to a ZF 8HP45 8 speed automatic transmission, which produces 344 PS peak power and 450 Nm peak torque. It can reach 0-100 kmph in 4.9 seconds, with a top speed of 250 kmph.

Jaguar XF was first introduced in the British automaker’s lineup in 2007. At the upcoming Auto Expo Jaguar will showcase the next generation XF luxury sedan. This car gets power from a 2.0 litre Ingenium diesel engine which powers the XE sedan as well. This engine produces about 182 PS peak power and an impressive 430 Nm peak torque. The middle variant of XF will get bigger 3.0 liter twin turbocharged V6 diesel unit which churns out about 304 PS peak power and 700 Nm peak torque. Not only this, a 3.0 litre V6 Supercharged petrol unit will power up the top end variant, which produces around 385 PS peak power and 450 Nm peak torque. All these engines are expected to be paired with 8 speed automatic gearbox, although Jaguar has planned to introduce 6 speed manual gearbox to the entry level engine.

Jeep will enter the Indian market with their two offering, and Jeep Wrangler is one of them. The butch looking 4x4 SUV sports an iconic Willy’s fascia and it gets power from a 3.6 litre V6 24 valve VVT engine paired with 6 speed manual transmission as standard and 5 speed automatic as option. There will be a 2.8 litre V6 engine as well, which kicks out 200 PS peak power and 460 Nm peak torque. This car is available in both hardtop and soft top versions as well. The 4x4 driving job is done with the help of 4:1 Rock-Trac Part-Time 4WD and Command-Trac Shift on the Fly part time 4WD system.

In the initial India line up from Jeep Grand Cherokee will be another vehicle. The large muscular full size SUV is known as a luxury off roader with sheer off-roading capability. Available in 4x2 driving system this car is equipped with four different powertrains options. In India we will probably the Grand Cherokee will be powered by a 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel engine mated to an 8 speed paddle shift automatic gearbox, belting out 250 PS peak power and an enormous 570 Nm peak torque. This car will compete against SUVs like BMW X5 and Mercedes Benz GLE.

Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT is the performance oriented version of Grand Cherokee. This car will be among the three models, with which Jeep will make its entry to Indian market. This car would get power from a SRT 6.4 litre 90 degree V type liquid cooled HEMI V8 engine under the hood, mated to an 8 speed paddle shift automatic transmission. This powertrain will be churning out 476 PS peak power and 630 Nm peak torque.

Mahindra Quanto is not a popular car in India. But Mahindra is launching a facelift version of the car in form of Canto, which looks very much stylish. The Mahindra Canto compact SUV would be powered by a 1.5 litre 3 cylinder mHAWK 80 turbocharged diesel engine, which is capable to produce 86 PS peak power and 230 Nm peak torque and this powertrain is available under the hood of recently launched Mahindra TUV300 as well. KUV100 will be Mahindra’s micro SUV offering for the country, this car is all set debut in a few days. Mahindra KUV100 has been designed with an inspiration from the Mahindra XUV500 and it looks pretty attractive with the butch crossover look. Although compact like a hatchback, but we have faith in Mahindra’s huge experience as a SUV maker, which will surely inspire the KUV100 as well. This car would be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and it will be offered in both petrol and diesel variant and it will get power from an all new lightweight and fuel efficient mFalcon engine. In the petrol segment a 1.2 litre all aluminium MPFI engine will churn out 83 PS peak power and 114 Nm peak torque. While in the diesel segment a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder turbocharged CRDe (Common Rail Diesel Engine) engine will kick out 78 PS peak power and 190 Nm peak torque. Maruti Suzuki has always been the most sold brand of India. They are now all set to bring their Ignis micro SUV which is expected to become another trend setter. This car was already showcased at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show recently. Earlier Suzuki showcased this car as the im-4 concept in the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is highly expected that the Ignis will be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

The Suzuki Vitara compact SUV was already showcased at 2012 Auto Expo. Four years since then Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch this car at 2016 Auto Expo. This car is expected to become the toughest rival against the top selling compact SUV of the country Ford Ecosport.

Mercedes Benz is bringing the next generation GLK class in form of GLC class. This luxury SUV would be showcased at the upcoming 2016 Indian Auto Expo. This sleek SUV is available in three different powertrain options, which are GLC 220 d 4MATIC, GLC 250 d 4MATIC and GLC 250 4MATIC. These variants would produce 172 PS, 206 PS and 213 PS respectively. While the peak torque amounts would be 405 Nm, 507 Nm and 355 Nm respectively.

The large luxury SUV made its entry to Indian market, and it would be showcased at the upcoming expo in February. This car is powered by a range of powertrain options. The Top end GLS 500 4MATIC variant is powered by a direct injection V8 bi-turbo engine producing 461 PS peak power and 700 Nm peak torque. The GLS 400 4MATIC variant gets a V6 direct injection bi-turbo engine under the hood. This engine churns out 338 PS peak power and 480 Nm peak torque. The GLS 350d 4Matic diesel unit produces 261 PS peak power and 620 Nm peak torque. All the drivetrains are mated to 9 speed 9G TRONIC automatic transmission.

The latest generation of Nissan X-Trail was first unveiled in 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The next generation model has got some restyling touch. The present generation X-Trail is based on the CMF modular platform, which will be the home for Nissan’s next generation models. The new X-Trail is sleeker, with the new LED headlamps cluster, chrome badging at the front, and equally stylish look at the side and rear also. Inside the cabin it gets duel tone interiors. New X-Trail also is equipped with Active Road Control (ARC), which automatically adjusts the suspension set up after scanning the roads ahead. It also gets seven seats for the first time. New Nissan X-Trail is expected to come powered by a 2.0 liter diesel engine, paired with X-Tronic CVT gearbox, sending power to all 4 wheels through an electronic 4WD system.

Renault Duster is the most popular compact SUV of India. In a bid to uplift the sales figure and popularity of this car the French automaker is bringing a facelift version of the car, which will sport several design and feature updates both at exterior and inside the cabin. The new Duster will be powered by a 1.6 liter petrol engine producing 104 PS peak power and 145 Nm peak torque, while the 1.5 liter diesel engine will generate 110 PS peak power and 248 Nm peak torque. There is a base diesel engine variant as well which will generate 85 PS peak power and 200 Nm peak torque. The 1.5 litre diesel engine producing 110 PS will come mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox, while the rest of the engines will be paired with 5 speed manual gearbox.

Ssangyong Tivoli is a sleek compact SUV which is expected in Indian market in a few days. At the 2016 Indian Auto Expo this car would be showcased. This car is powered by a X160i engine mated to a manual transmission, producing 125 PS peak power and 157 Nm peak torque. This engine is very muxh powerful and fuel efficient as well.

Tata Motors will launch a compact SUV in form of Tata Hexa at the 2016 Auto Expo. It will replace the Tata Aria crossover. The muscular and stylish looking compact SUV comes with an attractive appearance and several interesting features. Tata has already showcased the design of this car publicly. This car will get power from a 2.2 litre 4 cylinder Varicor diesel engine, which powers the Tata Safari Storme VX variant. This engine will be paired with a 6 speed manual gearbox and produce 156 PS peak power and 400 Nm peak torque.

Tata Motors is all set to launch a compact SUV which will directly compete against the Ford Ecosport, the best sold compact SUV of India. This new car will be named as Nexon, and it will be powered by a 1.2 litre Revotron engine mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox, which will produce 89 PS peak power and 140 Nm peak torque. In the diesel segment the 1.3 litre Multijet engine paired with 5 speed manual transmission, will be kicking out 111 PS peak power and 200 Nm peak torque. The diesel variant might come with F-Tronic AMT transmission on offer too. Tata Motors might offer a more powerful 1.5 litre diesel engine too.

Sway is the next offering from Tata Motors in the compact sedan segment. It is based on the Tata Zica hatchback, earlier codenamed as Kite. It will be the replacement of Tata Indigo eCS. The freshly designed compact sedan is built on the XO platform. It is expected to get power from a 1.05 litre 3 cylinder diesel engine mated to a 5 speed manual transmission, which churns out 70 PS peak power and 140 Nm peak torque. The petrol engine is a 1.2 litre 3 cylinder Revotorq engine paired with a 5 speed manual gearbox, which produces 85 PS of peak power and 114 Nm of torque. There could be an AMT transmission too.

The stylish yet rugged looking muscular Toyota Fortuner SUV will come in a new avatar and it might appear at the 2016 Auto Expo. It adorns better style, better features, and a better performing powerful powertrain. The SUV will be powered by a 2.8 litre four cylinder turbocharged diesel engine which replaces the existing 3.0 liter unit. It produces 176 PS peak power and 420 Nm peak torque. There is a smaller 2.4 litre diesel engine producing around 150 PS peak power and 400 Nm peak torque. These new engines belong to GD family and will replace the existing KD series of engines. Transmission job will be done by a new 6 speed manual and a new 6 speed automatic gearbox.

Toyota Innova has been the best MUV of India and evidently the most sold one. Toyota will launch their latest generation of Innova in India at the upcoming Auto Expo. Recently they launched the 2016 Toyota Innova in Indonesia. The latest generation Innova sports a restyled look, which is stylish and appealing to the next generation of buyers. It will come with new features, which will make the car interesting and attractive in every way possible. It gets power from a new 2.0 litre VVT-i petrol unit which is expected to produce about 139 PS peak power at 5600 rpm and 183 Nm peak torque at 4700 rpm. Toyota Prius is an iconic car from the Japanese automaker, which is probably the most popular environment friendly sedan from Toyota. A new version is about to be launched in India, which might be showcased at New Delhi Auto Expo in February. This car will be powered by a 1.8 litre 4 cylinder VVT-I petrol engine alongside a permanent magnet AC synchronous motor mated to a Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT). Altogether this hybrid powertrain produces 136 PS peak power and 207 Nm peak torque.

The next happening thing in Indian automotive market is the Volkswagen Vento based compact sedan. We have seen several rendered images of the Vento based compact sedan, which looks impressive. Volkswagen India is road testing the vehicle as the final R&D stage before launch. The compact sedan will be launched at the 2016 Auto Expo. There is no information available about the powertrain of this car, but we assume it will retain the Vento powertrain.

Volkswagen Passat is one popular midsized sedan. The next generation Passat was launched in South Africa a few months ago, and the German brand is expected to bring it in India in a few days. They might launch the Passat at 2016 Auto Expo, or at least showcase this stylish car there. The 2016 VW Passat gets power from a 1.8 litre TSI petrol engine under the hood paired with a 6 speed manual or 7 speed DSG transmission. This powertrain would be churning out peak power in between 150 PS to 220 PS while the peak torque amount is expected to stand in between 250 Nm to 350 Nm.

Volkswagen Polo is surely the most popular hatchback in India. Recently the famed German automaker has launched an all new performance oriented Polo in form of Volkswagen Polo GTI. We can expect Volkswagen will showcase this car at the floor of 2016 Auto Expo. This car gets power from a 1.8 litre BlueMotion 4 cylinder inline turbocharged direct injection petrol engine which will be mated to a 6 speed manual and a 7 speed DSG transmission as option. The powertrain would produce 192 PS peak power and 320 Nm peak torque. It can reach 0-100 kmph in just 6.7 seconds.

Volkswagen will launch their Renault Duster competing compact SUV Tiguan in India in a few days. The Tiguan looks cool indeed. It might be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, there is no confirmation albeit. It will be powered by three different powertrain options in India, which will consist single petrol and two diesel engines. The VW Tiguan will get 4 cylinder engines in both petrol and diesel segment. The diesel engine is expected to deliver 124 PS peak power while the diesel engines will deliver 114 PS and 149 PS respectively for the base and top end variant. Transmission options are expected to be 5 speed or 6 speed manual alongside a 7 speed DSG automatic gearbox.
